After months of speculation, Seantrel Henderson’s journey is complete, and all roads lead to the []_[]. Yes, last night the news we have been anticipating became official: Henderson will attend the University of Miami and nothing stands in his way.
Widely regarded as the nation’s top recruit, Henderson (6’7, 335) has ended his dramatic recruitment. He was granted his full release from the University of Southern California July 6th, allowing the five-star tackle to shop his services around the country. It didn’t take long for him to decide his new home will be in Coral Gables.
Henderson delayed his signing until March, after National Signing Day, hoping USC would avoid major NCAA sanctions. After the findings were made public by the NCAA Infractions Committee concerning the highly publicized case, it became clear that the USC program would suffer heavy setbacks, including a two-year bowl ban and the loss of 30 scholarships. He was led to believe during the recruiting process, with many assurances from the USC coaching staff, that this would not be the case. Henderson eventually inked with the Trojans, trusting USC head coach Lane Kiffin’s word.
Hey, you made mistakes when you were young, too.
Kiffin decided to grant Henderson’s full release just a few days ago, surprisingly requiring no restrictions on location, conference, or school preference.
It was widely speculated that Miami was Henderson’s first choice to begin with. In the minutes leading up to his announcement, many close to the situation deduced that the talented lineman was headed to South Beach. Shocking many, he made the surprise decision in favor of the Men of Troy.
Canesport.com spoke with Henderson’s father, Sean. “He’s in the process of enrolling, will be on campus Aug. 3. He can basically be considered a verbal commitment right now.”
Henderson, according to several websites, has been cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse. He must still pass UM admissions, which at this point, is a formality. His transcripts and paperwork still need to be processed, according to Canesport.com, which will take place sometime next week.
The USA Today National Player of the Year will play left tackle, and led Cretin-Derham (Minn.) to a 12-1 record and a 5A State Championship last year.
Rivals.com recruiting analyst Barry Every says of Henderson that he is “Physically one of the biggest offensive linemen in the country. Upper and lower body structure is in proportion and he has the powerful base to blow anyone off the line of scrimmage. … Other than his massive body size, Henderson is extremely nimble and agile on his feet, especially laterally. He gets that from playing basketball when he’s not training for football. Henderson also has great hand placement during pass protection, thus being able to direct the pass rusher outside the pocket.”
Sounds good to us. Welcome to the []_[] Family, Seantrel! Welcome home.

Could it be?? FIRST!!!

Doc, I think you’re dead wrong about it costing the NBA and ESPN money, as well as the owners calling players cowards. Gilbert’s the only one I know who’s done that.
But more importantly, the last time you had three utterly dominant players on the same team, excluding Boston, was Jordan-Pippen-Rodman. And guess what happened? Arenas sold out everywhere they played. TV ratings were higher than ever during the regular season and even backwater teams made money at the stadium because people wanted to come see the Three Kings play.
These three are even bigger and better than those three collectively and the audience will respond.
But if the players had divided their talent, nothing would have changed. NY would still be worthless and CHI would still be middle of the pack.
So actually, Team Heat have done the NBA a huge publicity, marketing favor, with controversy for days.
And while Lebron may not have ever called himself king, he certainly agreed to let other people call him that, as well as stating that he wanted to be the first billionaire athlete.
So who’s the greedy, corporate owner after all the dust settles in your conspiracy theory, marxist, skin-color-paranoia stained scenario??
This situation was a clash between team owner and franchise player. There was never a question about who the REAL top dog was, and the loser behaved like a loser. The city of Cleveland’s reaction was to be expected.
>>>>>>
If you don’t think that ESPN pledges its allegiance to every professional sports league, then maybe you should rethink your assessment. Every time a football player holds out for more money or decides to make a decision that is best for them, they are ridiculed on ESPN until they make the decision that is best for the league. Conversely, when a player’s talent has run its course, the player is released and all you get is an update across the bottom of the screen. ESPN is hypocritical and its stories are blatantly one-sided. So much so that I don’t even watch it unless it is showing a football game.
Your reasons as to why it won’t cost the league money are actually the reasons why it will. You said that the arenas that they play in will sell out every night and I agree. My point is that the fact that they are on the same team means that they can only sell out one arena every night. Instead of D. Wade and Bosh selling out one arena in Miami and Lebron and Amare selling out another arena in New York, they will be in the same place. I’m sure you know that 2>1 any way you try to dice it.
Do you really believe that the NBA/ESPN wouldn’t have been ecstatic to have Lebron in New York with Amare? They were the ones creating the illusion that Lebron should go to New York to begin with. They built up the hype, they built up Lebron, and this aura of invincibility and he simply showed that he was human.
And I don’t know if you even believed what you said about the Knicks still being sorry and the Bulls still being middle of the pack but in case you do, think 2007 Cavs with one superstar making it to the NBA Finals. And as a sports fan, I’m sure that you know its not about what actually is, its more about media hype and $$$$$… When was the last time that Notre Dame was a good team? When was the last time that Miami vs. FSU meant anything to Nat’l Title race? It’s been a while, but every season, they hype it up to seem like Notre Dame is a big dog and Miami vs FSU is for all the marbles. Essentially, it doesn’t matter how good Chicago and New York would be with Lebron. It only matters that the team would be more marketable and please stop pretending like you don’t know that.
*So who’s the greedy, corporate owner after all the dust settles in your conspiracy theory, marxist, skin-color-paranoia stained scenario??* Answer: Captain America, lol…
This is my favorite line… The greedy corporate owner in my conspiracy theory, marxist, skin-color-paranoia scenario is the same people its always been. If a guy is willing to pay anybody 123 million to play for him, then that guy must be worth 500 million dollars to him. Don’t pretend like these owners are doing anybody a favor, please don’t. The players are worth 300-400% of what they are paid. And yes, they are African-American’s emerging from the depths of poverty with the ability to think and move on their own accord. If they wanted to be corporate puppets, they could simply turn on ESPN and do what they are “supposed” to do according to that network
The loser behaved like a loser? lol. There are 32 teams in the NBA and every season 31 teams lose. How can you identify him as THE loser? As much as I hated Lebron for being proclaimed the King of all Kings by media types and fans, I am disgusted even more for how people turned on him. Maybe you are a Cleveland fan or something, I don’t know, but you sound like a sheep being led to slaughter. Perhaps you were calling Lebron the King last week, now he’s a loser?
And don’t compare this to the Bulls… Scottie and Mike were always on the same team and Dennis Rodman was a welcomed addition that led to the hype but he was never in anyway the type of super star that could lead a team.
JSQ, my comment was eaten!!
Canesport.com spoke with Henderson’s father, Sean. “He’s in the process of enrolling, will be on campus Aug. 3. He can basically be considered a verbal commitment right now.”
???????? Verbal?/??? I love this kid, but the father? not so much
The Clearinghouse info out there right now is suspect. Be careful guys and gals!
Hurricanedave
He has to be a verbal. No need to sign a LOI, just enroll and he can’t enroll until his past the Clearninghouse and UM admissions.
i just can’t see him contributing this year for two reasons…
1) we got some talent ahead of him at OT.
2) he’s a big dude from about as north as you can come from. and he’s coming to maybe the most hot/humid/draining spot in the US. he’s going to be vomitting and cramping up for like a month. especially if he really does weigh 350 like was rumored.
Man I am soo sick of Randy Shannon doing things the right way!! All of this top flight talent that he is bringing in is not what I signed up for as a CANES fan. I wanted to continue to wallow in the stench of mediocrity and this Shannon guy is doing all he can to make Miami a top flight program again. This must stop, and Randy must GO!!!! All the people who feel the same way come join me at http://www.idiotmiamifans.com
and i remember i was about to make the argument for “i’d take Barton over Henderson any day” back when signing day was here. I kept looking at their footage to make my argument. i just had to say forget it. Barton got size and athleticism. But Henderson does too. And Henderson really was a lot more polished. Barton is that diamond in the rough type while Henderson is the “as long as he does what he’s supposed to do…he’s automatic”. now he still gotta do what he’s supposed to do- work hard, train hard, not get in trouble, etc.

my post got eaten.
Esteban what do you think about the ACC’s new TV deal with ESPN. It almost ensures that we can watch all of the CANES games on the XBOX360.
money, thats the #2 biggest thing about the deal to me. just wish espn3 on the 360 was coming b4 november.
#1 biggest thing is the security it should provide to the ACC.
Anyone else watching the ACC championship game replay? Man Josh Nesbitt is a beast. I don’t know what to expect from GTech this year. They could be a tough out. Didn’t Al Groh take over as the D-Cord for them?
Last night on another site a blogger who appears to be the guy running the OU Sooners site stated that we shouldn’t buy in to everything we have read about SH and his dad. The poster said he has a cousin who coaches at SH’s highschool and stated that the dad is not what he has been made out to be. This guy seemed legit going by his badge showing him five years at the Scooter Sooner site.
He further stated that Miami should be proud of the way they handled the situation and that Miami did it with class and integrity. He said this,” the dad is a standup guy and SH is really a good kid. A good family.”
The only way he would be able to post on that site would be if he operated the OU Rivals site.
Anyone know where I can print off a Miami cover for NCAA 11 for PS3? I refuse to have Tebowb on my cover.
Hurricane Dave, I think we give the Henderson family the benefit of the doubt until we see for ourselves what they are like.
If they are as being reported by the media it won’t be long before their true colors are known. I don’t think we have a Bobby Drama situation here.
I think the kid wanted to be here in the first place and you know us dads … haven’t you ever watched, “Father Knows Best.”
You and I are old enough to have seen that show!
Actually that last post should be under Hurricane Randy, I don’t know what happened.
Yeah Money I agree with you, Randy Shannon can’t recruit. Yeah Right!
He is building something here that I wouldn’t want to play or stand in the way of.
To all you FSU Warchant trolls, ” whats up wussies?” Another Beat Down, that’s what.
Sorry for all the eaten posts. I unspammed them!
Palm Beach Canesfest was awesome. Great interviews and great to catch up with everyone! Looks like KC Jones will be doing my event in August.
Bg, from the stuff Mike saw and the people I talked to today, it seems as though the NCAA Clearinghouse is a done deal. They even announced SH was coming to UM at the event, FWIW. I trust you more than any source that doesn’t get a UM paycheck and doesn’t call himself The Truth, though, so it makes me take pause that you have some concerns. We waited to post everything until every reputable out there reporting considered it a done deal, so I hope we didn’t jump the gun.
Anyway, it was a great event. There will be an article tomorrow. Orlando Franklin gave an awesome interview. I love that guy.
We even caught up with some of the players afterwards (they were outside the ladies’ room when Tereina and I came out) an talked to them briefly. I can only assume they asked me what we were doing afterwards because they wanted to hear Mary Knows Football’s insight re: the upcoming season over a nice lunch? Right?
Also, Shelton it was very nice to meet you. The picture of us came out really good and will be in tomorrow’s article about the event. Go ‘Canes!!!
Ronny, our friend Shelton on here designed the ‘Canes covers I believe. I think he or bg could give you the link.
No Tebow!!!!! Blech!
Bg, it looks like there is some conflicting info out there. I think I saw what you are referring to. The former O line players I talked to today said he’s cleared and just needs to complete paperwork at the U but that it’s a done deal. I hope that’s the case!
Thanks BG, now I understand the verbal.
Doc, lol, the last time I checked ESPN was IN BUSINESS. This ain’t a charity. If you want that sort of shat go to Cuba or the old USSR or better yet some Euros would be happy to welcome that view.
And saying one centi-millionaire is somehow the enemy of another centi-millionaire or billionaire makes less even less sense, esp. when the centi-millionaire says he plans to be richer than the billionaire before long.
You’re so busy trying to find a villain and a victim you can’t see this situation for what it’s worth. Too much “higher education.” I went through the top echelons of that bullshat and have concluded that it does nothing but disorient your mind and distort REALITY. I’ve actually come to REJECT everything I learned in undergrad as porous, flimsy and hollow, whether it be Hobbes, Locke, Foucault, Western Civilization, or this nonsense called “black studies.”
And what the hell difference does it make if Jordan and Pippen played on the same team? The fact that this sort of firepower has never been assembled under one roof makes it even MORE ATTRACTIVE to fans.
Compare this team to all those excellent teams from San Antonio and Detroit, those teams who played great D, had multiple scorers but none of those team had any STAR POWER.
I’ll never forget a SI article about the finals between SA and DET. The article praised the play but was really saying the nation didn’t really care because neither team had any STAR POWER.
This Triumvirate will fundamentally reshape the NBA because teams, players and the league will see that a concentration of power is actually superior in every way to a dilution, or as they your friends like to say, “sharing the wealth.”
Boston opened the door to this and now Lebron, Wade and Bosh are smashing down the hinges.
Expect more player decided alliances like this to happen in the future. It’s like an arms race, and the Triumvirate has upped the stakes tremendously. Other players will want to follow that lead just to compete. Owners as a whole might not like it but this move has made it clear that owners and agents are no longer the key power brokers in the NBA.
It’s those centi-millionaire workers who hold the cards. lol I bet your friend Marx is rolling over in his grave. hahahaha

Este, I agree. I don’t see him strolling in and taking Franklin or Johnson’s spot, esp. not going against our DEs. Plus it’ll take him a few months to get all that weight off.
But it’s a great get. He and Linder can RS work hard on the scout team, give us a lot of depth and keep the empire rolling.
Agreed, fellas.
SH won’t come in and take Johnson’s spot. He’s a tad out-of-shape and he’s behind by at least one full year of learning the position.
Plus, there’s the speed element he hasn’t seen yet. And it’s South Florida heat and humidity.

I went back and watched as much tape on Henderson as I could find. VERY IMPRESSIVE prospect. HUGE, but he’s strong too and also stays low. Doesn’t always finish but that can come from coaching. If he gets in ok, I believe he will play this year IF he gets into shape. Starting??? I’m not ready to say that, but play, ABSOLUTELY. He’s going to be a good one IF he stays in shape and stays focused. Very, very good looking player. Deserves the hype, but hopefully he’ll stay grounded and keep getting better.

No. EA screwed the DMV this year. I think the local retail stores (gamestop, etc) complained about places like where I go and EA delayed the shipment. Now I won’t have until at earliest Monday.
I actually wouldn’t redshirt Henderson. I’d just let him focus on his conditioning while he suits up. Getting him experience in blow outs should help for when Franklin’s gone. Have him ready to compete for the LT spot. But that is if he earns the #4 tackle spot. White and Plein didn’t look ready to even get blow out playing time at tackle yet.
Ok, what happened to our new blog notice, i’m over at the last blog just yapping, get your head outta CANEfest and do your duty, in fact, og cupcakes, you got 110′s and crab-walks after this.
Gotta luv thses guys hanging out by the ladies locker room, trying to get they shine on at Canefest, lol.
If this henderson comes in and takes someboies spot, he’d have earned it, in fact, i’m going to go and get the post from the OLD blog that kind of explains my reasons why.
Calvin says:

A few weeks ago people thought henderson was on campus, it was probably his stunt double ian symotte coming t pick up his transcripts. If this guy comes in and takes somebodies spot, more power to him, under shannon though, you got to earn it. also i know it’s been said that shannon prefers to start the older guys over the younger guys, i think that had more to do with shannon trying to preserve the younger guys for the future, like starting this year, he knows his main guys to get us back to where we’re use to are all grown up now, so they’ll be able to set the standard for the young gun, so from here on in, anybody who breaks into he starting line-up as a freshmen, and that’ll normally only be probably at db, runningback, wide-out/o-line. shannon started those older guys back in the day because from a physical point they should’ve been ready, so i think we’ll began the better guy in the line-up from here on in, but shannon is not going to sacrifice a guys future physically just for winning a football game, that’s just the principle he lives by, i an live with that, and we will definitely win with that because guys will be a whole alot more fresher/4 fingers coming back to mean something.
Yeah bg same here on getting NCAA 2011 early. The games-4-less in Tallahassee won’t get it until monday.
OK…so if SH does get into some games this year willl it be on short and goal type situations where he can use his size/strenght/center-of-gravity to make holes, or as a decoy on running plays?
With SH not having played a lick of real football for at least eight months, I’m not sure I’m trusting J12′s blindside or on the right side either.
Sorry, Calvin. By the time I was going to post it, Doc was already posting first so I just assumed-
Sorry, no assumptions. I’m getting to those crab walks now!
Be back later after I’ve learned my lesson!
Okay, Calvin, I’m back and very remorseful!
Guys, I was having this same conversation about SH playing and where with KC Jones today. KC is an awesome person, btw. He really likes Jermaine Johnson and Orlando Franklin but I said it would be good to get him in there with some reps on both sides, maybe R rotating in some of the tougher games and maybe give him a chance at L in games with smaller weaker D Lines like FAMU, or weaker ACC schools.
Then KC said maybe next time DBJ should be interviewing me about the oline instead of him.
I told him I didn’t know what the F I was talking about, I was just regurgitating stuff I heard here and there from all the smart guys here with a couple of my own ideas thrown in! Haha. Thanks for making me sound knowledgeable, fellas!!!
Wait Calvin,
“get they shine on?”
You mean you don’t think they wanted to talk about sports with me?
I don’t believe it. The way Randy has those guys behaving, they probably wanted to take Tereina and me to the library or book club, church or something!!!

No worries on Henderson. TOS (plural) need subscriptions. It’s a tough economy LOL
Thanks, T. That’s the message I got today from people who would know but that other report scared me!
I just got the sweetest email from a retired secretary from the Dean of Students Office at UM. Made me teary-eyed.
That’s the thing about UM. It isn’t just the football team that is a family. It’s the entire school. From the VP giving me my first bed when I couldn’t afford one for my first apartment, to President Shalala having the poor scholarship student over for dinner when I couldn’t afford to eat anything but ramen, to the secretary who sends me an email 4 years after she retires saying how much she loves and misses me. How could you not have anything but crazy undying loyalty for a school like that?!
I love the University of Miami so much. I hope my love and Mike’s comes across in everything we do on this site.
It’s all about the []_[]!!!!
T great to hear.
I was really worried about all the admissions stuff this late in the game.

No doubt D Lewis is a BEAST!!
GO CANEZ!!!!!
Haha, no, I just rely on some crazy dude named Paul to keep me in the loop on all that stuff, T!!!
The U is on ESPNU tonight at 10
JSQ those stories are awesome…it is great to be a Miami hurricane! Go Canes!
Thanks, Canechic. When people wonder why I am such a crazy fan, that’s what I tell them: UM was, and is, my family. And no one messes with my family. I could only afford to see my family once a year back in those days and the adminstrators and my classmates at UM took me in. Truly wonderful and special people at the []_[]. I’m sure Nicole will have some great stories of her own!
That email really brought me back. It’s important to remember where you come from to (1) have gratitude every day for what you have and (2) stay hungry.
Speaking of hungry, Sebas just ate my dinner when I had my back turned. I guess that is his way of supporting my game day diet?! Haha.

I’m telling you guys, I’m not too far removed from a time when I thought that chating online was only for nerds, rapists, and pedophiles.
I’m glad that I got down though.
LOVE MY CANE FAMILY!!!!
Love having SH on board but his dad is still crazy….Notice how he uses “us” and “we” when talking about Seantrel. Loco….
“Miami was always Seantrel’s second choice, and this was next-best fit for him,” said Sean Henderson, Seantrel’s father. “He loves coach [Randy] Shannon. Jeff Stoutland is a great line coach. Their situation is on the rise. It’s a private institution, small class sizes, same thing we like about USC. It’s a good fit for us.”
“I believe he will play this season,” his father said. “All we ask is for a fair shot.”

I’m with you re: chatting online. I read TOS since 2007 and never posted on that or the newspaper ones until I was promoting my event for the alumni club. Most of my friends still think it’s creepy but I explain to them that y’all are like family and there are only a few people I don’t know in person. Those weeks when I wasn’t talking to you all before we started EOTH were awful. I would see or hear things that reminded me of you all and I missed you guys so much and wanted to talk about spring practice and everything else ‘Canes with you guys. So, I hear you, I’ve come a long way this year re: being scared to post!
Cap., you checked your email?
And from a guy that claims he knows the Henderson’s, he thinks the Pop Henderson is being painted in a negative for some reason. He said the whole family is good people and he doubts that there will be any drama once he gets on campus!!
I hope he’s right…

Hurriphin: thanks for the kind words, fella.
Mary and I bring it real. We’re not going to lead you astray, or pump more into the team than we think is warranted. We try to stay positive and build our young men up who play for our favorite football team.
Criticisms will be warranted in the future, but we’re not in the business of tearing down. More positive is needed in everyone’s life, especially nowadays. These are still kids.
I think we have a great crowd here, but I don’t want that to discourage anyone else from commenting. Eye of the Hurricane is looking to build our readership, our commenters, and our overall awareness to everything ‘Canes.
We’re always looking for guest writers and new folks to offer their opinions and outlook, growing our family. Like Mary said, most of us know each other, and that makes things pretty special. We’re a family, and that stems from the attitudes from all the players and alumni.
