This year, John Lovett is starts his second year as defensive coordinator at the University of Miami. A veteran coach with 19 years of experience as a defensive coordinator with stops at Clemson, Auburn and Mississippi, Lovett’s defense ranked 29th in 2009. He directed a defense that featured All-America and Jim Thorpe Award Semifinalist defensive back Brandon Harris, First Team All-ACC defensive lineman Allen Bailey and second team All-ACC linebackers Darryl Sharpton and Colin McCarthy. Sharpton ended up a fourth round selection of the Houston Texans.
Lovett graduated from C.W. Post College in December of 1973 and was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame in fall 2008. He initially was a walk-on, but quickly earned a scholarship and served as the team’s co-captain as a senior in 1973. He played for Dom Anile, who is now a Consultant to Player Personnel for the Indianapolis Colts. At the completion of his career, he enrolled in graduate school at the University of Denver and he earned his Master’s Degree in 1975. The next year he entered the coaching profession. Lovett began his career in coaching at Saint Joseph’s Region High School in Montvale, N.J., in 1976. He started his college career in 1978 at Union College in New York, where he worked until 1982. Lovett spent the 1983 season in the Ivy League at Brown, and then moved back to New York to work under Joe Walton as the New York Jets’ defensive quality control coach in 1984. Next, Lovett worked as defensive coordinator at the University of Maine for two stints. He first went to Orono in 1985 and served as the defensive coordinator and secondary coach from 1985-88, and then returned in 1994 to serve as defensive coordinator for the Black Bears. The 1987 team won the conference championship and qualified for the Division I-AA playoffs.
In 1989, Lovett joined head coach Tim Murphy at the University of Cincinnati, where he remained until 1992. In 1993, he coached at UNLV as the secondary coach. Lovett coached the secondary all four years he was at Ole Miss (1995-98), including the 1997 season when the Rebels had an 8-4 overall record, including a victory in the Motor City Bowl. As the defensive coordinator at Auburn from 1999-2001, Lovett helped lead the Tigers to bowl games each of his last two years including an appearance in the 2001 Peach Bowl. Lovett served as the defensive coordinator at Clemson from 2002-04, and helped develop one of the ACC’s top defenses, while defensive backs Justin Miller and Brian Mance earned All-America honors. In 2004, Clemson was 11th in the nation in pass defense efficiency (103.4) and 26th in total defense (327.3). In 2003, his defense allowed just 19.2 points per game as Clemson finished the year with nine wins and a top 25 national ranking. Lovett was the defensive coordinator at Bowling Green from 2005-06. In addition to coordinating the defense at Bowling Green, Lovett coached linebackers in 2005 and defensive backs in 2006. In his first year with the Falcons, Lovett’s defense ranked 20th in the country in turnover margin. Before joining the University of Miami, Lovett spent the previous two seasons as the special teams coordinator and a defensive assistant at the University of North Carolina, where the kickoff coverage unit ranked among the nation’s top 15 and the Tar Heels blocked six kicks in 2008. He coached the NCAA all-time leader in combined kick return yards in Brandon Tate, who also established the ACC career mark for kickoff return yards. Kicker Connor Barth set the school career mark for field goals.

Good job Datcane, GO CANES!!!
3rd.
good morning
DAT, good to hear about KT. That’s what I’m expecting from him.
What’s up Autumn? Are you in Vienna?
I’m expecting big things from our defense this year… including the linebackers (lalalalala not listening ala JSQ).
20 days & 11 hours until kick-off!!
Well, I’m off to Islands of Adventure with the fam for my birthday weekend. The plan is to get on as many puke rides as I can physically handle. Wish me luck!
Luck KL-Islands of Adventure is the only fun thing on that side of town. The Harry Potter ride is consistently breaking down so be careful. Happy Birthday!
I am having a sleepover tonight for 5 of my Nieces. Ages 12-15.
Should be fun.
I have to teach these little hoochies a few things. Some of them are a little too boy crazy!
Uncle Pauly don’t play that!
GO CANEZ!!!!!
Sam Shields really turning it on in Packers camp. What this article doesn’t tell you is that every year there is a interception contest among the dbs in camp, which Charles Woodson naturally wins every single year, but this year the guy who is running a close second is Shields.

vienna is on the far eastern side of austria next to czech land (? i always forget their new name) and slovakia . . . i’m all the way on the west side next to switzerland . . . about a 7-8 hour drive.
and i love it here . . . major alpine romantic . . . what i always dreamed about growing up in the gables.
that and beautiful seasons.
you? in new york if i remember right . . . though my memory has a very low batting avg.
Canez1,
I hear []_[] man…my Niece is 13 her and my sister came over to do some laundry this past weekend because their dryer broke. I was folding some of her clothes… some items I did not approve of, I just starting throwing them out. That’s what Uncles are for..Child Please
Canez 1 tell them to get education crazy…..can do nothing or have nothing without a good education. Boys are trouble but if you get too strict they run right towards them. Have to have a happy medium.
Good luck with that sleepover, glad it is you and not me!
teach them to be U fans. if they listen to one thing that’s more than is expected. unless you bring up Justin Beiber. I’m sure they’ll listen then. Might need to doctor a photo of him throwing up the U.

Haha, this is exactly why you need to have one of your own. But you know the more you say “Don’t” the more they’ll want to ‘DO”. Teach them about boys. Being boy crazy is good. It only becomes bad when they can’t tell the difference between a loser and a winner.

I see. You’re near the Alps. Gorgeous. I didn’t realize Austria was that big. Seasons are profound. You don’t realize it until you really experience them.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KL AND KL JR!!!!
P.S. LEOS ARE THE BEST!!!!!!
Lol DAT!
We play that at my tailgate. It’s on Mars’ (who has another feature article, “The View From Mars” coming up on EOTH on 8/21!) tailgate mix and everytime it comes on (people will go over there and turn in on), everyone does my jello shots.
Meaning, that song can be heard at my tailgate approximately 34 times before going in to the stadium.
I tell the teenage girls I know to keep your legs closed until the ink is dry on your law school diploma!
Lol @ at the Justin Beiber reference, Esteban. So true.
Haha, this is exactly why you need to have one of your own. But you know the more you say “Don’t” the more they’ll want to ‘DO”. Teach them about boys. Being boy crazy is good. It only becomes bad when they can’t tell the difference between a loser and a winner.
- – - – - – - – -
And when you are done teaching them how to tell the difference, come down to Delray because I need a tutorial in this as well! hahahahahaha
In other words:
“While I was at Miami I had my head up my a*s and didn’t give a f@ck about school or working hard because there’s too much going on there. Here in Indiana there ain’t sh*t to do so it’s either sit around with my d@ck in my hand or go to class. At least there are girls in class
”
LOL no doubt!
There are going to be some lessons learned this weekend. The good thing is you can talk to them like adults now. Do they listen??? Most of the time.
Tough age to be.
Their parents are pretty good at picking their battles. I think that’s important but they all seem to forget the way they were when they were young. That kills me.
They are all pretty good for the most part. One of my brothers is really strict so his girl will be hookin shortly LOL!!
Este LOL They will look at me like huh???? They have very small worlds at that age lol.
Probably going to order some pizzas and rent some movies.
Chill night.
Hopefully no fights break out and they don’t drink all my booze and we will be good.
Or I can just get them all bombed and wrap the night up early LOL
We will see how shyte goes down.
GO CANEZ!!!!!
Good stuff Truth
Lol, Truth.
Btw, to continue last night’s Jersey Shore discussion, I was talking about the attractiveness of the girls. I wouldn’t touch those dudes with your hands!
I think the girls WOULD be cute (except for Sammy, she’s already cute) if their plastic surgeons hadn’t botched the jobs. They need to take some of the $$$ they are making and get their “girls” fixed.
Canez1, at that age their was always some drama that happened over nothing. We would always freeze each other’s bras or a couple of us would wake in the middle of the night (after watching scary movies before falling asleep) and go out to my backyard (surrounding the family room we slept in on three sides) and make scary noises and rattle windows and act like ghosts. Inevitably somebody started crying because her training bra was icey or she got scared. Then we would have to spend a couple of hours crying and talking it out, then we ate ice cream and did cheerleading stunts.
Ice cream, scary movies, and nights spent with friends. And no mortgages to pay. I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I had to do it over, instead of being he!!-bent on becoming an attorney since age 5 and always focusing on school and getting the F out of Springfield.
I agree JSQ. But the crazy factor with those chicks makes them untouchable.
And they’re mean!!!
No way…
I really wanted to see ed reed last night.Wonder how long hes out for
Oh and also this is exactly why i don’t want kids.
I have 10 nieces and nephews. I have seen it all.
When they were young their parents were so happy and in love. NOW they say dude anytime you want to freaky friday it up and change places be my guest.
The kid thing gets old especially as the problems get more intense. Next thing you know your little girl is on Meth and showin her titz on facebook.
Unless you are the CC family. Good peeps all around. Very lucky!!
I’m all set.
GO CANEZ!!!!!
Thank you Canez 1! It is lots of hard work, still and they are 19!
Looks like Streeter finally removed his thumb from his azz today in practice.
Hope it continues!!
GO CANEZ!!!!!
Truth, those chicks are like the before version of the Real Housewives of New Jersey. Whole lotta crazy. That’s the kind of chick you have to keep away from the sharp objects.
I heard this song on the way to the office and it makes me smile so I am sharing it with you all:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfLEc09tTjI
Obviously it is about celebrating after a ‘Canes victory, as mentioned in a previous MKF
I love it JSQ, have that one on my Ipod. I have rediscovered Disco in my old age.
Go Canes!

Exactamundo! Haha. Ain’t shyt to do up there, that’s for sure. He’ll find some cutie and chill out, stufy and play football.
Ok off to the heat and jog. Shaping up for the season opener (but I will not be able to go, will however be there in spirit).
Happy Birthday KL and KL jr!!! I love me some Leo ladies. haha
Canez1, I agree that the prospect of raising kids is scary.
I can’t wait to do it, though! Watching someone that is a part of you grow up? Dressing them in Baby ‘Canes gear? Taking them to games? Their first words? Baking cupcakes for them and their pop warner team?
I realize it is not all cupcakes and touchdowns, though. Which is why I will be coming to CC and KL for advice whenever that time comes – you can tell they are good mommies!
“Which is why I will be coming to CC and KL for advice whenever that time comes – you can tell they are good mommies!”
NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!!!
GO CANEZ!!!!!
C1, uncle’s can be great for asking questions kids would NEVER ask mom or dad. (hint, hint). haha
I just about had a meltdown.
Was doing my bi-weekly budget and started panicking at the lack of spending $$$.
Turns out, I counted my mortgage twice.
Good Lord. JSQ needs a cocktail.

no love for J12
http://miamiherald.typepad.com/umiami/2010/08/haith-would-welcome-seantrel-henderson-on-court.html
Manny
DAT, J-12 won’t get any because of the INTs but anyone who knows anything knows those numbers drop every year someone starts. Just ask Ponder. haha J-12 will leave them all in the dust though. Then all the jock-ees can get on board…
DAT, she also keeps hyping Wilson but J-12 will definitely leave him in the dust this year. Nesbitt is whatever. Ponder’s the only one who should be mentioned with J-12. Parker makes a play now and then though.
I agree Captain…Ponder is better also a year older. J12 cuts down on the picks the rest is history. Improved o-line play with a stable of backs could help him reach elite status.
Seantrel isn’t going anywhere near Hait. haha Shannon ain’t playing that shat. lol
Tell haith to get his own recruits, with that boring as offense he runs their. Got to much talent to look that damyum weak on offense.
The only thing i don’t like hearing about sam shields doign well at greenbay, i keep saying it, but our guys will play better in the pro’s than college. I’m talking guys like, shields, randy phillips, maybe sharpton and i think dvd as he gets physically better9confidence especially), it use to always be about the other way around. I don’t know if a player can get any higher praise than this, but i remember in a pre-season game, the commentator made a cooment about SEAN TAYLOR, he said something to the effect of, “when players coming from college Up to the pro’s, theirs normally an adjustment/struggling period to adjust to the pro level and than later on, you start seeing signs of them becoming good players, the way & plays SEAN TAYLOR keeps making, he seems to have come from a higher league and than down to the nfl”

That Miami-mark stoops connection was a perfect match/blend of Miami type talent(including those who came ie. ed reed, True Cane). This is why i know stoops at fsu, is going to make us have to elevate our offensive game that much more, going to be some real good battles.

Looks like Robinson is still at the mike
The way Ramon played in the scrimmage I would slide Colin over to the middle and put Ramon in his spot. Ramon, Colin, Spence and let her rip.
My daughter had her little girlfriend spend the night, about three weeks ago.
They were playing a game where they were teachers and the babydoll’s were the students. When one of the “students” would “talk” they’d pick the doll up, and knock the hell out of it. Then they’d take turns telling on each other whenever one of them thought the other was being too bossy.
So when I say, “If someone else comes out here tellin’, I’m sending Albina home.” They both yell, “NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!” and run off.
(Like parents would actually send their kid’s company home. Has that threat ever actually been carried out?)
Parker or no Parker we still gona whoop Clemsons a**
Lol, Hurriphin
Robinson will not be the starter
Truth, what do you think about the GMC Acadia? It actually offers MORE room in back than the Yukon because the seats fold flat, it has better gas mileage, about 2k cheaper and comes with nav and rear dvd.
Absolutely. Nice ride and, honestly, after driving your car you’ll find that one a lot easier to get used.
It’s a really nice SUV and less cumbersome than the Yukon.
But drive them both anyway…you never know what you love most.
A couple of teacher friends of mine have one and they both love them…
But even with the Acadia, get it in black. There’s something about GMC’s that make them look that much nicer in black.
And like we were saying yesterday, the Nav really is a must. You’ll never go back to not having one…
Yeah, it is right down the street so I think I am going to test both the Acadia and the Denali and if I love the Acadia, I’m getting that one and if I still want the Yukon then I am driving to the dealership in Ft. Lauderdale tomorrow and getting that one.
Time to pull the trigger!
Pull it!
And the trigger, too…
Thanks for the advice, T.
This one is actually in silver. http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp;jsessionid=hvbJmhf4vTHKMcxtTaX2Z1L?tab=summary&paId=352296174&recnum=&actLog=&listingId=41098506&paId=352296174&listingRecNum=&criteria=&tracktype=usedcc&pageNumber=&numResultsPerPage=&largeNumResultsPerPage=0&sortorder=descending&sortfield=PRICE&certifiedOnly=false&aff=national
The Yukon is in black. http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp?tracktype=usedcc&csDlId=&csDgId=&listingId=43476776&listingRecNum=1&criteria=prMx%3D30000%26sf1Dir%3DDESC%26prMn%3D0%26alMdId%3D22393%26mkId%3D20061%26stkTyp%3DU%26mdId%3D22393%26rd%3D30%26crSrtFlds%3DstkTypId-feedSegId-mkId-mdId-pseudoPrice%26zc%3D33445%26rn%3D0%26PMmt%3D1-1-0%26stkTypId%3D28881%26sf2Dir%3DASC%26sf1Nm%3Dprice%26sf2Nm%3Dmiles%26alMkId%3D20061%26rpp%3D50%26feedSegId%3D28705&aff=national
Both certified. But the Acadia is 2k cheaper and has navigation and the seats fold flat and has better gas mileage.
lol, T
I’ve never seen it in silver…looks GREAT. I like it!
Go for it! Woooo whooo!!
Buying a new car is one of my favorite things to do and the advice pb gave about negotiating is perfect. Especially in this economy.
You’re the Boss. Don’t let them dictate otherwise.
I’m the boss? I thought that was Jerome Brown? Tony Danza?
How much do you think I should offer?
It looks great for cupcake transport, no?
I vote for the silver one. JSQ you will look cute driving that!
Thanks, Canechic!
The most important question is: does is say “6th National Championship?”
You can’t name a car Six if you don’t think it can deliver the ring.
Look for other comparably equiped vehicles in the area… make sure you compare, “apples to apples”. Find the least expensive one and have that information handy. Don’t show too much interest. When the salesman tries to “close the deal”, pull out a print out of the other, “almost identical”, Yukon/Equinox and let him know you still have to drive that one… ” I mean it’s X amount cheaper.”
Normally they’ll say something like… “well theyre not the same” and they’ll point out some differences and you just have to say something like, “well those option aren’t too important to me.”
Be prepared to pull the trigger. The only leverage a car dealership has is to reduce the price and they’ll use that leverage for a “today deal”.
Thanks, DZ8.
I found a 2008 Acadia with 1k less miles at Carmax for the same price so theoretically, the 2007 should be less.
The only difference is the navigation but I can play that off like I don’t need it because I have the portable.
The plot just thickened:
http://www.carmax.com/enus/view-car/default.html?AVi=3&id=6836638&N=4294966797&D=50&zip=33445&pD=0&pI=0&pT=400&pC=200&pB=0&No=0&Ep=homepage:homepage%20Make&Rp=R&PP=20&sV=List&CD=14+240+398+9&Q=1acbc2f0-2c2b-4992-b3a5-432e67ec1378
OMG Game Day Cakes just landed a $1200 catering job for the Fins/Pats game!!!!
WOOOOO HOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
I’d start at 23,500 and let them counter. Some people will say to start lower but I’m with Canez…let them know you’re not there to f@ck around and to be fair and you’ll meet them in the middle.
I think it’s a great ride for you…
You’ll say it is a year newer with 1,000 less miles, and they’ll say that it isn’t Certified being at Carmax.
Also beware that 2WD SUVs may be popular down in Fla & Texas but it kills there resale value anyhere north of those states.
So what do you guys think about the low mile 2007 white Yukon XL?!?!?! It just came in today and that’s what I REALLY REALLY want!!! Great price, too!
I must have missed this when it came out … you all are a lot better informed than I am, but not a lot of love for the U here … Rivals.com College Football – Rivals.com expert predictions: ACC
Drive them both JSQ
And you don’t need a 4wd
don’t forget the carfax
The price on that Yukon isn’t that great. At most places it’d be a good starting point but there’s no working a deal at Carmax. That’s what you pay…it’s easier, but they’re making a little more money off of you than they should.
Then again…I’m a HUGE believer in getting exactly what you want. If that’s what you want, then go for it and who cares!!!
No Love for J-12?
Look at the first year of Colt McCoy’s stats and then check them out the next two years. J-12 is on track and will prove the pundits wrong. Can’t wait.
I am going to drive them both and see what I like but the white Yukon is exactly what I want and it is actually a REALLY good price for a Yukon XL, plus it has lower miles than any I have seen, plus it has the rear DVD. I have seen similar cars priced as high as 37k. Carmax sucks for some cars, but they are really good with pricing Yukons. Cheapest price for the quality.
I do like the Nav in the Acadia and it would be easier to park.
I wonder if the Yukon XL will fit in my garage?
…and you can get a Garmin nav for next to nothing..,
Insurance is cheaper on the Yukon. Just got a quote for all three cars I’m looking at.
Boy, it sure is going to be fun staying up late tonight finishing the complaint I SHOULD HAVE been working on instead of car shopping.
Truth, I already have the Garmin. I owe my life to that thing! I’ve gotten lost walking Sebastian around my neighborhood before!
Also, from what I’ve heard, Garmin is better than the in-dash navigation.
But the in-dash sure is pretty!
The only advantage to Garmin has to indash is the ability to either update automatically or via your computer.
The indash usually requires you to get a disk every couple of years at about $150 a pop. But its a larger interface and a lot cleaner…Otherwise they’re essentially the sane.
I’m looking for a Garmin for a boat but those things are like 2000-$3000. I wish I knew why or how to get a used one.
JSQ,
You aren’t one of those blonds who was going to Disney World and got to a fork in the road and saw a sign that said Disney World left, so she turned around and went home, are you?
Haha, Randy, I’m not THAT bad.
I don’t get lost at Disney, but then again, I worked there so I know the layout pretty well. Of Magic Kingdom at least.

Truth and JSQ – Jersey Shore is what I call rubber neck TV, you know you shouldn’t look but you always slow downn and try to see what’s going on no matter what. That being said, it is one of my favorite guilty pleasures if for no other reason then to say no matter the dumb things I have done or said in my life, there is someone even dumber…(and for those who think we’re crazy, yes we all know these kids are trash, but to be young drunk and naive is always a great thing to watch).
And Truth I am sure you can support a grenade free America anyway…

Ponder’s another good comparison. He had similar INTS and maybe half the sacks but nowhere near the TDs and yards. As J-12 adds muscle the velocity and range of his throws will increase. He’s going to improve considerably over the next four or five years as he grows. There’s a lot of room on his frame.
And in regards to K-Rob, I understand he won’t be there come 9/2 but why not get the guys who will play the reps?

Buchanon seems to be on his way. With Futch coming back and a few others, we should have some decent depth at LB, and maybe one of the frosh will grow into the Mike more and more as the season moves along.
I support a grenade free America, too Shwarma!
That chicken cutlet scene last night was HILARIOUS! I had a friend in high school who used to wear those.
Philly, I shouldn’t say he won’t, but he shouldn’t. Why throw the wolves into the fire without some prep first.
Shwarm, that’s a good question but Buchanon may force him to make the move and put C-mac at the Mike just to have the three best LBs on the field, regardless of what he’d rather have or do.
He may just be giving K-Rob as many reps as possible in case of injuries during the season, or even during a game for a few series. If I know Shannon, that would be my bet.
og cupcakes, you making this truck thing to hard on yourself, here’s to simplicity!

Cal, good one about Haith. lol
Looks like the storm is gathering. You can tell by Shannon’s demeanor and expressions. He looks dead serious but then sometimes relaxed and cool.
Just drove the Acadia and a Denali. The Acadia is beautiful but wow I love driving a V8! And the Denali. Wow. Good thing I was wearing yoga pants instead of a dress. I liked it that much!Haha

gute morgen . . . everyone sleeping late?
When we talking bout mindset, yeah we know they got real confidence from belle grade and other parts to, but in Miami, as witnessed nd testified by travis benjamin, it’s just a way of life. Just watch out for eduardo clements, he doesn’t care what runningbacks have come in, he’s looking to get on that field with avengence!
“Allen is a pretty good receiver,” said Benjamin, a native of Belle Glade. “Every kid from Miami has this personality about them, because every time they step on the field, they think they’re the best thing on the field.”
Benjamin smiled and said, “Allen is going to be fine. Not only has he caught on to the system, he’s from Miami, where Aldarius and the rest of those boys are from.”
I got up early, autumn.
Gonna eat a couple of eggs and go back to bed, though.
Good article coming in the next couple of hours.
