Today we’re going to take a closer look at two All-America candidates, as both players are capable of winning post-season awards at their respective positions.
#3 Matt Bosher, K/P
A 2009 All-ACC first team kicker and second team punter, Matt Bosher (6’0, 205, Sr.) is one of the most skilled kickers in the country. He also appeared on Rivals.com and Phil Steele’s All-ACC first team as a kicker and second team as a punter. Last year, he connected on 14-of-16 field goals, ending the season hitting on 12 straight, was 10-of-11 on kicks over 30 yards or more, and averaged 42.5 yards per punt. Bosher has racked up 90 straight extra-points, the third best streak in UM’s history, behind Carlos Huerta’s 157 straight PATs and Jon Peattie’s 99. He also booted at least one punt of 50 yards or more in eight games, and landed 23 of his 51 punts inside the 20. In 2008, in addition to being a Lou Groza Award semifinalist, Bosher won the team MVP Award (Jack Harding Award), after being named second team All-ACC kicker and punter. He converted 18-of-20 field goals, hitting a career-long 52 yarder against Wake Forest, and also notched a 50 yarder versus the Gators. He averaged 40.3 yards per punt and appeared on the 2009 Ray Guy Award preseason watch list. In 2007, he just punted, averaging 40.2 yards on 58 punts.
Why he appears here: Ask Ex-Seminole head coach Bobby Bowden if kickers are important, and if the best ones aren’t an asset and weapon for your football team? Bosher is one of the top kickers in the country, no questions asked.
‘Canes fans should rest easy when Bosher is asked to kick. He’s made 32-of-36 career field goals and is perfect in converting PATs. He’s also improved his punting average every year. He’s one of Miami’s most consistent performers, but don’t tell him he’s a kicker. Bosher has a reputation in the ACC for covering his own kickoffs, making some impressive tackles down field, stops that would make linebackers proud.
2010 Season Outlook: He’s going to be the closet thing to perfection as Miami will have in a player this season. He will break Peattie’s streak of 99 straight PATs, but will fall short of Huerta’s record. Bosher will improve his punting average and continue to be Mr. Automatic in field goal attempts. He will make all the post-season All-ACC teams at kicker and punter again. If he doesn’t miss more than one or two kicks, he could challenge for an All-America spot, and if his punt average is around 45 yards per attempt, he could leave as one of UM’s most decorated players, ever.
#2 Brandon Harris, CB
A 2009 third team All-American of the Associated Press,
fourth team All-America by Phil Steele, first team All-ACC, junior corner Brandon Harris (5’11, 195) led the ACC and ranked second nationally in averaging 1.31 passes defended per game. He tied for second nationally with 15 pass break-ups and third in passes defended with 17. Harris made the cut last season, earning a spot on the Jim Thorpe Award semifinalist list, given annually to the nation’s best defensive back. He ranked third on UM’s defense with 52 total tackles, recorded two interceptions and forced two fumbles. He was selected as the ACC Defensive Back of the Week after making nine stops and breaking up two passes in Tallahassee, including one with nine seconds remaining in the game. In 2008, he totaled 30 tackles, two for loss, one sack, one interception, and three pass break-ups. As a kick returner, he had 13 chances for 274 yards, with a long of 41. He was also a 2008 All-ACC Academic Football Team selection.
Why he appears here: Harris is Miami’s most talented corner. He will be counted on to lock down half the field in the passing game. Harris might not be tested as much this season given last year’s production in passes defended and broken up. He’s also a solid tackler, and he will be expected to take more of a leadership role this year. In a position where proven depth is thin, Miami needs Harris to perform up to his potential, and most importantly, stay healthy.
2010 Season Outlook: Harris will once again dominate opposing receivers this year. We will see him blossom into a first-round draft pick, and if he produces like he did in 2009, don’t be surprised to see him forgo his senior season and declare for the 2011 NFL Draft. A higher interception total is expected, and he’ll play a major role in causing more turnovers defensively. Harris will also be considered for the Jim Thorpe Award again this season and should easily make all the post-season All-ACC teams and should contend for a higher All-America distinction.
Recapping the countdown:

Woot!!
Mary, would you like to help me out on the featured image? I think its the only thing I haven’t mastered.
Mike, it crops it for the thumbnail but you can manually edit the thumbnail in the uploaded pictures in the gallery.
What is the BlogPoll?
The BlogPoll is structured exactly like the AP and Coaches’ polls, except the voting members are active bloggers who write about college football.
How does it work?
Voters submit a draft ballot on Monday that they post on their site. They then solicit feedback from their readers and submit a revised ballot early Wednesday. These ballots are then compiled into the poll Wednesday afternoon.
How is the BlogPoll different from other polls?
A few different ways.
One: By virtue of their tendency to sit around and watch 12 hours of college football every weekend, BlogPoll voters are often better informed than mainstream media members, most of whom spend their Saturday obsessively covering one particular game, or coaches, who all obsessively cover one game.
Two: All votes are totally transparent. The poll makes a point of calculating various poll statistics so it can examine outlying ballots (especially those that are biased in favor of the home team), and asks voters to justify their stranger picks.
Three: The BlogPoll has an explicitly declared poll philosophy that voters are directed to follow. Not every voter and every ballot manages to do so, but the philosophy effects the poll as a whole. This usually manifests itself in a skepticism of teams that play very weak schedules. The 2007 Hawaii team, which cruised through its regular season and was crushed by Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, is the most obvious example.
Why should I care about any of this?
As the poll has developed it has shown a flexibility mainstream polls have not. In 2009, for instance, ownership of #1 passed to and from Florida and Alabama. Before the SEC championship game voters settled on Alabama, whereupon they were proven correct by events on the field. Though the debate was academic because the two teams would meet at the end of the season, there are plenty of occasions when hotly debated teams don’t meet on the field. Conventional polls seem to adhere to the idea that if you’re #1 you stay #1; the bloggers are more responsive.
How can I take action?
Find your favorite team’s blog (or blogs) and chip in on the draft ballots.
Taking everyone’s Top 25 votes until Sunday 6 pm.
just watched the champs bowl for the 1st time since i was there OUCH
Brandon Harris = best player on the team
I’m just sayin…
And I still can’t believe you put the kicker ahead if the best DL, WR and LB’s on the team.
What is the world coming too??
It was a HUGE debate, Truth.
I’m just sayin…
lol
Team MVP in 2008, that’s why. Dependable and awesome. As good a kicker and punter as you could ask for.
No apologies from me for Bosher being this high.
Bosher will directly determine outcomes of several games this season.
And our faith and confidence is SKY HIGH that it will be to our advantage. Every time.
I tried to sneak B. Harris into the No.1 spot a couple of times, but my esteemed partner was having none of it.
I tried to shake her confidence in our No. 1, but I failed. And you know what, she was right. Because the better he performs, the deeper UM goes into the discussion.
Truth, can I count on your vote for a Top 25?
Top 25 in terms of talent and importance to the team. No one can doubt Bosh’s talent as a kicker. His XPs were perfect (what do you mean we won’t score more than 67 TDs this year?), he got his FG flukes out of his system in the GT game, and his KOs, though not in the end zone, were high enough to help our coverage. His punting, after the freshman year when he alternated 55 and 25 yarders, has been great. Late last year he really seemed to sky them.
Importance to the team? First off, he does 2 (or 3) ST jobs. He does them well, and no one else on the squad has ever punted or kicked in a game! To me, that spells critical importance! He gets a groin pull – or a hangnail – and we’re in a heap o’ hurt. Remember Clemson? When we could have used one of his patented out-of-bounds specials, Urib gives the ball to the best RB in the game on the 10 yard line and no Cane within 25 yards of him. Maybe that wasn’t the only thing that cost us the game, but it sure didn’t help.
Bosher at #3 isn’t too high.
thanks for the support, Old Fart. I 100% agree with everything you said.
Can I get a Top 25 pre-season poll from you, Old Fart? Before Sunday 6pm
Sure mike…I’ll put one together tomorrow if that’s ok? I’m absolutely dead tired and have full day of beach, mini golf and Mickey Pizza making tomorrow.
I think Mary let her inner/outer fan get the best of her objectivity between 1 & 2. Brandon is complete and if I wasn’t so tired I’d prove to you that he, as a lockdown corner, is just as valuable to this team as Sebatians favorite player is.
But even then I’m sure she’d have none of that so I totally understand your plight!
‘night all…
My post got eaten again
I’m not going to argue the Kickers awards or accomplishments. But kick and punt coverage suck. He’s part of that. His kickoffs suck. I know you guys don’t want to hear that, but they do.
I know he does a lot. He’s great, don’t get me wrong. But he’s not the 3rd most important player on THIS football team and thank god for
that.
Allen Baily, Hank, Cmac, the entire oline and these days even Cookie (allowing cmac to slide over) are all more important.
Lots of K’s make their extra points. Him being an MVP on a shi*ty team doesn’t make him more valuable than Orlando Franklin is today.
I’m just stating my case…not really trying to say anyone is wrong. For me though, there are more than a few players that are going to be more responsible for W’s than the K.
good arguments, Truth. Points taken.
Yeah, taking votes until Sunday 6pm.
B Harris for President.
When Patrick Peterson pulled that ol’ bull-ish, I remember thinking, “Its all good. We are gonna get Harris anyway, and I bet he’s gonna end up being the better player.”
If I’m not mistaken, the top corners on that 08′ class were…..
Peterson
Harris
TJ Bryant
and Alonzo Lawrence
Lawrence couldn’t stick on the team, Bryant is milk carton material, and Brandon has been every bit as impactive as Peterson (who will probably be a safety in the NFL)
And for all my fellow movie-goers, that Piranha 3D movie sucked aborted kangaroo fetuses………..
LOL! Hurriphin! too funny.
I can’t believe you actually paid to see that…

Truth, you’re asking us to pick ONE area?? haha I’d say the strength will be the ability to tear off large chunks of yardage in one play, running and passing, 30+ yard gains. To me that will be the biggest strength.
Cal, yeah I’m still not sold on Dumbo as a HC. We’ll see on 9-11. Did you catch Shannon’s statement about “people feeling the vibration of the Miami Hurricanes football program getting back to where it used to be…”
Deep and serious…Just like saying the team’s taking on his mentality. Buchanon-CMac -Spence is a legit starting 3. Seriously legit. The question will be who’s first off the bench until Futch is 100%? Probably Cornelius or K-Rob. Nelson will have his chances though. What I like more than anything though is all these LBs and DBs on special teams. Now Fluzzi really has NO EXCUSES. Don’t write off Shayvon yet. Cat is cock diesel. He just needs to dots to connect in his head. Sometimes it takes a little longer. The good thing is he’s libel to get passed by true frosh if he doesn’t pick it up. I think the competition next year might be with him, Nelson and maybe Futch for the Mike.
Whatever the combo we know it’s almost lights out time for CFB once again. OSU’s just going to be the first to learn.
Miller, Streeter, DVD and Benjamin will have more impact on the outcome of games this year than Bosher, to name a few. But Figs and Frank will have the greatest impact other than J12.
Because we have a real offense, Bosher won’t be trotting on the field any more than Sievers did in 2001 and 2000.
Captain:
I need a Top 25 from you. Sunday 6 pm is the deadline.
Eye of the Hurricane was selected as a Blogpoll voting partner. We’ll average all of our votes from readers, and send it in as EOTH’s vote.
the back n forth about kicker at #3 was well debated.
liked OldFartNC’s idea that you lose bosher and it’s major impact.
lose a great wide receiver, runner, d-lineman and you at least have good depth to back them up.
lose cmac in the middle or jacory and thqt might be something else.
back-up is something we don’t know yet regarding wieclaw & ?? (i’ve just forgotten the name of the walk-on kick-off guy).
i’ve thought so highly of bosher the last couple years its hard for me to be rational. i like him in top 10; top 5 even; #3 . . . well, okay . . . but if truth kicks him a couple places down that’d be okay too (not too much; jsq’s got to be holding onto his ankles so he wouldn’t land too much farther down).

I Think us having more backs that can score will be the difference this year. Last year we only had berry as our only legit back that was going to get the tough yards we needed. Having Miller and Storm will be a plus for us…Berry and James will be our power backs while the other two will be our explosive ones…I don’t think Bosher will be counted on as much due to us blowing teams out..We just have TOO MANY WEAPONS on offense to be settling for game winning field goals… game time is in 12 days and boy i can’t wait for us to shine… i know we are going to play like it’s the championship game because that is how we’ll approch every game this year…THE DEPTH is way better than last year and that my friend will be very noticeable come game 1…peace!!!!
Shannon has his players now….COKERETTES have packed up their skirts, panties and bras to make room for jock strap wearing men…We were so SOFT under COKER that even himself had to play hit the DUMMY role..Many doubted Shannon, not me especially knowing this is a DADE county guy…SOFT is not in our vocabulary…Even slavery couldn’t make it down this far ..even though this was the most SOUTHERN city in the UNITED STATES…MY city was born tough ,rugged and gooned from the get go..Shannon knew after the WISCONSIN game that he had to get tougher …WE WERE DRILLED IN THAT GAME AND STILL ALMOST WON…So what i am saying is that even when we played like panzies we can still knock heads..AND THAT SPEAKS VOLUMES..

gorten’s one and only today (“I’m on Marlins duty today, so Shandel will be covering for me. Check back for any news he might have.” . . . interpretation: nothing else of interest today):
‘Canes ranked No. 13 in AP preseason poll
by: Steve Gorten August 21st, 2010 | 12:39 PM
CORAL GABLES – The Hurricanes are ranked No. 13 in the Associated Press preseason poll, which came out today.
That’s also where they were ranked in the USA Today Coaches’ preseason poll released earlier this month.
The last time the ‘Canes were ranked this high in the two polls was 1996, when they were voted 11th in the coaches’ poll and 12th in the AP poll.
The ‘Canes started last season unranked in the AP poll, but finished it at No. 19.
Six of this year’s AP preseason top 25 teams are on UM’s schedule: No. 2 Ohio State, No. 10 Virginia Tech, No. 15 Pitt, No. 16 Georgia Tech, No. 18 North Carolina and No. 20 Florida State.

very hard for me to get excited about “top 25″ lists right now . . . do any of you really have some kind of idea how all these teams are doing?
i think it’s hard enough keeping up-to-date just on the canes + reading a couple headlines of other teams . . . to know the ins & outs of injuries and player progressions and who’s coming back from a broken jaw and who from a messed up throwing hand and such; = NO idea about other teams.
but you all have fun with your lists; your “crap shoots” . . . i just want the teams who play us to do well and i will root for them out of the gate until we play them.
and florida is allowed to lose. and alabama. and texas.
okay – my blog went down and ain’t comin’ up; so i’ll repeat it.

>>>>>>>
Indeed. That’s what I’ve been trying to explain to a guy TOS who’s all worried about this season because of what he saw last season but people, a lot of people, don’t want to accept the facts of growth and development and that they apply to the U just like any other team or school.
And most people really don’t understand the Shannon Effect. It’s interesting. Maybe people just don’t want to look at evidence and draw conclusions and predictions. But they’ll learn. haha They will definitely learn.
That’s why I love the way Shannon is scheduling teams from all over. You want us to come to your town? Buffalo? Toledo? Sure. Bama, you want some? Saban can get it just like a little no name school. Ditto Kelly and ND. West Coast swing up next. Boisie, you want to get whooped on that Blue Turf? Sign on the dotted line.
MM01, a top 25 is such a crap shoot at this point it’s almost ridiculous. I’ll do some research cause I haven’t seen any that reflect much other than what the so-called experts think. For example AUB was as close to beating Bama last year as TX but NO ONE has AUB in their top 15 even.
Any top twenty five is all speculation, promise, potential and usually based on last year and how much experience is returning. Maybe some on schedules. This is a poll based on, The upcoming season where they are today not necessarily where they will end up. USC on probation and I refuse to rank a team on probation.( FSU non-ranked based on last season’s defense and record, and only one offensive play maker)
1. Ohio State (I like the U’s record against number one teams)
2. Florida (The bigger they are the harder they fall)
3. Alabama( vs. Florida, 10/2)
4. Texas Christian
5. Iowa
6. Nebraska
7. Miami Fla. (Ohio St.9/11)
8. Oklahoma
9.Virginia Tech
10. Oregon
11. Georgia Tech
12. Pittsburgh
13. Texas
14. North Carolina
15. Boise State
16. Houston
17. Georgia
18. Auburn
19. Wisconsin
20. Penn State
21 Oregon State
22. Arizona
23. Utah
24. Texas A&M
25. Boston College
but you all have fun with your lists; your “crap shoots” . . . i just want the teams who play us to do well and i will root for them out of the gate until we play them.
and florida is allowed to lose. and alabama. and texas.

i like that expression . . . i'd like to plagarize that some time – but with my horrible memory, probably no chance of that.

Shannon had that 2001 defense playing like a damn symphony of destruction. It’s really impressive to watch his playcalling when he has the right players.
If Chud had been closer to him on the offensive side, that team would’ve broken every record in the book.

Symphony of destruction. Excellent phrase, Cav!
Good choice at #2. BH is a special player and will have a tough decision to make at the end of the season.
Can’t wait to see Pryor throw one of those ducks his way.
Last year I predicted 3 or 4 losses. This year I don’t see anyone on our schedule better than us. It’s all up to the players now to do what they are capable of.
pb, i can’t wait to see Bailey introduce himself to Pryor. Cause I think they will know each other real good by the end of that game.
honestly say if the team is ready to focus week in week out they are ready to go all the way. just need to see what’s up with Figs health.
Lol im all for the fat chic ban.

Does Ahmad Bradshaw (NYG) remind anyone else of Coop, or vice-versa?
At least pre-ACL Coop.
I don’t see the comparisons.
Is Coop as heavy as Bradshaw?
BUT COOP remindedI know I’m gonna get lashed for this BUT COOP reminded me of Portis.
cav, “symphony of destruction” needs to be patented, because that’s what i’m looking for again from our defense. In fact, with a guy like porter and regis, add forston and whoever next in their, we starting their, than if those 3 linebacker that we all think are going to be on the field beind that, and than the secondary will play physical, that’s why i luv that play against cal where brandon harris got real physical with that wide-out but never quit on the play and help to track em down at about the 3 or 4 yard line as a true freshman, now he’s going into his junior year, lol, okay.
I already know what we got on offense, it’s the defense that i’m waiting to see unleashed on teams like in times past. Our front four whoever is in their will be respected, but it’s up to them to add the fear factor. We’ll know how much teams fear our d-line real quick, when we see them start running alot of draw plays and screens, that’ll be a sign right their. Defensively, we start shutting teams down, that’ll be all she wrote, i’m lookingto se our defense play more physical than oppossing offenses, that’s one of the keys that’s been missing, shannon knows what to do to bring that back real quick. i like that runningback from v-tech, that guy balls no matter who he’s playing against, against us, he did damage last year for sure, but we’ll see what happens this year, if cmac mans the middle, he’ll get tracked down, because all the other linebackers explode to the ball as well. i like where we’re at as a team, which unit wants to rise up and be called the strangth of the team, lol.
They way Coop runs. I think its similar. Herky-jerky. Quicker than fast. On field temperment (did I spell that right?) although Coop isn’t quite as animated as Bradshaw.
I watched those UM-RU highlights, and THOSE particular green jerseys were pissin’. I don’t usually like the greens.

Bradshaw and Coop are totally different backs. Bradshaw’s like a poor man’s Emmit Smith, smaller but strong as hell and very determined with enough speed and a few moves. His main asset is strength though.
Coop’s a speed back who hits harder than you expect but who’s main strength is his explosion and acceleration. Bradshaw is not returning anyone’s punts or kickoffs.
funny how most of the polls dont have cincy in them.Last year they lost 1 game and that was to the gators in a bcs bowl game

…and the ony reason I have Cinci so low is Kelly left…
JSQ and Cal, that phrase is exactly what he was doing. You could literally see the entire defenses hitting the notes and holes at the perfect time. Sometimes he blitzed the LBs, sometimes a CB, and they were almost completely prepared for whatever the offense tried to throw at them.
You have a really different perspective when you can watch games and plays over and over and really understand what the DCs and OCs are doing. Shannon’s playcalling was NFL level with those players, esp. against teams like PSU and such.
The good thing is we’re about to see something close to it again once we get some experience with the LBs and the DTs are really ballin. Lovett will be able to call just about whatever he wants. So we’ll be able to see just how good he is by comparing his play-calling to the 2001 squad.

Yeah, Coop’s good in a striaght line but I’ve never seen him make a move without having to drop speed.
Whereas Portis would make five or six moves all at the same speed, bobbing and weaving like Pretty Boy Floyd Mayweather. haha
Kelly leaving devastated Cincy. I don’t see them winning more than eight this year.
I agree with Truth. Kelly is gonna get that school up there on the right track. He’ll have a much better caliber of athlete to run a very effective offense. If ND remotely remembers that football involves defense, they’ll start winning again.nning again.

Brother, that is THE greatest team of ALL TIME..
No one is “supposed to be” anywhere near that.
T, you think Cinci will be that good? I know the team everyone’s overlooking is Auburn. I expect them to beat Bama this year, striaght up. They just might win the conference.

Have you ever agreed with anything anybody’s ever said, ever………..?
Until Auburn wins something, I’m not ranking them. They can be real good but IMO they’re the same as Georgia…paper tigers.

Hell yeah they are. You and I both know Shannon expects and works towards nothing else. It may take a couple of years for all the parts to mature at the right time but Shannon will have very, very similar teams to that one. Maybe a weakness here or a strength there but they’re going to be similar.

We agree about Cooper. Ports was so smooth. Cooper, not so much.
And Im just saying EVERY team is looking to be as perfect as those 2001 canes were. But that’s prefection…
I debated Utah, TXAM, and Stanford in my poll.
Taking votes till Sunday pm.
I thought about putting TAMU in my poll too. I like Jerrod Johnson.
Gotta be honest Truth……….I still don’t think AUb firing Tubbs was justified. He smacking Bama for a while, and shoulda’ had a share of a Nat. Title.
Truth, I agree about that squad being the pinnacle and that a lot of stars have to align properly for a team like that to come together but I’m positive Shannon will exert every effort to reach that level again.
Besides, that’s why we have summits..to climb to the top again.
Phin, would Coop even make a Top 10 UM backs list?
I don’t think so.
I almost put Texas A&M in as well…yeah, I thought Tubs got a bad deal. But in this day and age that’s just the way it goes.
It doesn’t help when you don’t get along with the boosters anymore, though. And honestly, with Saban there, I don’t think anyone is going to beat ‘bama on a regular basis.
Mike,
I’m not sure what that has to do with the comparison, but if you’re just asking in general…

2 O Anderson
3 Portis
4 Bratton

Got to quit picking on my boy Coop. At 100% he’s the best return man on the squad. I’ll admit he can’t pass as well as the multiple Pro Bowler, but don’t compare the boy against a man.
IF he gets to 100%, and if we get as much improvement from him as we expect from the other RBs this year (and that depends on holes to run to) we may rank him up near Highsmith. And I like his hands.
Cooper has gotten some good work done over the last three years. It’s just been GROSSLY overshadowed by long stretches of suckitude.
Had the last three teams he’s played on been 10-2, 11-1, and 12-0, his numbers & contributions would seem much more significant.
I’ll tell you what……….I don’t ever remember his play COSTING us any games.
T, Tereina and I are over here making cupcakes in our ‘Canes bikinis, where are you?!
Actually, we are making cupcakes but not in bikinis. We are making my first game day cakes order. 24 cupcakes took 6 and a half hours. With custom fondant topping.
I’m glad Mickey pizza was a hit. Did you see the email about the cookies?
…………And I mean TEAM suckitude.
I could only find highlights of Portis as a Pro. He was the same runner here as a Cane. Cooper can’t hold his jock.
That said, I like Cooper as a return man and as a second option. He’s a good player.
I wasn’t trying to put him down…I just do not see ANY comparison to he and Portis.
For a lot of reasons that iPhone email chime gives me bad vibes so my email isn’t set to automatically download.
So, yes I saw the cookie idea but just now! Another great idea…maybe tomorrow before bed to try to get his mind of staring K on Monday.
Slip on those bikinis…I’m coming over to help you guys get all the frosting off of you…
I’m not hatin’ on Coop either, I think he really improved last year.
Hey…most post got eaten!
Hurri, no one’s dissing Coop. I’ve always loved his energy and how hard he runs and his devotion to the U but he’s not in the same league as the guys from 2002 backwards.
Actually, he reminds me most of Leonard Conley. I think he’s faster than Conley though.

Good point but a close game doesn’t mean the team isn’t the greatest ever. Besides, I put that one on Chud’s playcalling and Medioker’s softness in general. But it is possible for a great team to just have a bad day at the office, at least on offense.
Este, I was never impressed with Bradshaw in college. He always looked like he was about to trip over his own feet but he was tough for a smaller guy. If he can get burn and a ring in the NFL I see no reason why Cooper can’t.
PAtience to follow and read ur blocks. To me thats been #1 deficiency in Cooper’s game.

a gorten post about yelich:
http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports_college_hurricanes/2010/08/the-kid-who-was-almost-a-cane.html
this post includes a couple tidbits, including:
“As widely speculated, former Hurricanes receiver Thearon Collier is in fact transferring to Southern Cal. USC coach Lane Kiffin said after the Trojans’ scrimmage that Collier, who was dismissed from the ‘Canes earlier this month, will enroll at USC and be eligible in 2011.
Asked by a reporter at the scrimmage if Collier was a trade for Seantrel Henderson, Kiffin quipped, “The player to be named later.”
manny regarding collier:
”
It’s official: Thearon Collier now at USC (but UM got Seantrel)
It’s Susan Miller Degnan, about to head for Saturday’s practice, but before I do…
After a long time waiting for the official stamp of approval, former UM receiver Thearon Collier is now officially a USC Trojan.
USC coach Lane Kiffin talked about it after his team’s scrimmage Saturday, at which Collier was present (not playing, obviously). Collier will have to sit out a year, per NCAA rules, but he can practice with the scout team.
At UM, Collier would have been a junior. His two-year career numbers: 44 catches for 574 yards and three touchdowns. On punt returns, Collier had 20 returns for 193 yards and two touchdowns.
And who could forget that beautiful 29-yard catch he made on third down in UM’s game-winning drive at Wake Forest last season.
I personally liked Thearon a lot, and I think he had tons of talent. I know he had a lot of personal stuff to deal with. His baby boy died during birth not that long ago. His father died while his mom was pregnant with him. Apparently he was not doing the right things in terms of class attendance, etc., according to some UM sources, but I hope he does well at USC.
“He’s been through a lot, had a very tough life so far,” Kiffin said, according to espn.com. “I’m glad we can give him an opportunity. Talking to a number of people, I think it’s very clear this is something that’s good for him, to get away from home and have a fresh start.”
As for UM’s acquisition from USC…. 6-8, 330-pound Seantrel Henderson (No. 1 recruit in nation)… Let’s suffice it to say that UM fans got a really big catch!!
