It Was a Very Good Year . . .

As Frank Sinatra once crooned, 2010 “was a very good year.”  I can hear you now:  “JSQ, lay off the kool-aid, we went 7-6!”  True.  That just happened.  But in between the heartbreaking losses from the ‘Canes, we started this new site for ‘Canes fans, made great memories, lifelong friends, and hangovers that lasted for days.  For those of you who shared the fun of the 2010 with EOTH, we look forward to making many more memories in the future.  For those of you who didn’t make it down to South Florida:  put that on your bucket list for 2011 and prepare your liver for some jello shots!  Below are some photos from 2010 to remind us that despite the ‘Canes W/L record, it was a very good year.

Bg, I hear ya and I wasn’t down on the staff and their recruiting in So Fla since I think what you said is 100% true, so you must have misunderstood what I was saying, as I meant at this point it just might not matter with SOME of these kids

    Right on about McDade too

  2. JSQ, who is that bald guy and what did you do with him? haha

Scented, glad to see you got your Gatorade there (though guys having seen Canez that day, that man was 110% hurting)

  7. DAT, I couldn’t believe I had no pictures of you! You were at most of the tailgates – how did that happen?!

  9. Great pics!!!

  10. Ditto with you, Shwarma – you need to jump in some pictures next year!

    Bald guy?

Maybe if Canez1 hadn’t started drinking at 2pm on Friday he would have been able to HANG on Saturday. Just sayin . . . ;-)

  11. Nice first, Shwarma!

    Awww, tailgates!

    Good times!!

I cringe everytime I look at those orange jello shots, tho. Somebody tried to kill us with the amount of liquor in them!

    Thanks for the pics, JSQ.

  19. Haha, DAT, true.

I need to be better about pictures next year. I have none from the epic FSWho tailgate and nor do I have any from UNC where Canez1 was actually functioning and eating and drinking like a normal football fan.

You and Shwarma will be first on my list to grab for pictures! :-)

  20. 1st round Mock Draft-courtesy of foxpsorts.com from last week, before Harris declared

    13. Detroit Lions (6-10): Brandon Harris, CB, Miami: Detroit went with a defensive player in the first round last year named Ndamukong Suh. I’d say that turned out fairly well. The Lions could upgrade the unit’s backfield with a corner like Harris. Though the junior said last week he was 85 percent sure he was returning to Miami, he’d look awfully good lining up in Gunther Cunningham’s defense. An elite corner prospect and a surefire first-round pick, in my book, I wouldn’t be shocked if Harris works his way into the top 15 come April.

  21. I did not make the orange jello shots!

I just understood your question, Shwarma.

    Sorry, a little slow today.

  22. and YW, KL! Good times! :-)

  23. Haha yeah I meant the man on the blogging sabbatical and will definitely jump in some pictures next year

  24. I just threw in a picture of Ben and Coach Golden.

Ben was given a bit of a talking to for going down there without me. THE NERVE!

Gotta get my picture with Coach soon!!!! GRRR!!!

  25. Good stuff!!

Ya Dat is more of a hit and run guy with his gang. Shwarm too now come to think of it!!

Good to see all the peeps again. Good Good times!!

    Tough day….. 1 out of 365 ain’t bad pffft.

    Cmon Joe no dogs out.

  26. As far as S&C, I think it’ll be Tony Decker (strength) along with Swasey (agility/speed)

  28. Canez1 was a rock star at UNC. That was a great game!

    Not so much VT.

I’m not saying his performance at the tailgate directly correlated to the team’s on the field but –

wait, yes, I am saying that.

    Thanks a lot, Canez1! :-P

Nice to see Hill showing his true colors. haha Let him go to the Gaytors with his soft azz. Honestly, any position coach with pride should’ve been pizzed that one of his players had to go to another person to really improve their game, meanwhile the HC has to call out one of your other players for being soft. I say it’s a blessing in disguise. Winning will snuff out any recruiting concerns or advantages, esp. with Richardson coming on board who has that real SoFl Swag. Fuk ‘em.

BG, I wasn’t aiming that statement about the secret information at you. It’s just the way it was presented was like it was some incredible secret, not by you, by others. But like I said, all other things aside, RS didn’t know how to make his guys practice like Hurricanes are supposed to practice. Between that and Whipple, he was bound to fail. THAT to me is what the so-called “insiders” should’ve pointed out years ago but I never recall hearing a peep about it.

CC, I remember Shannon talking about “getting an NFL guy”, so I still find it hard to believe that anyone forced Whipple on him. It wouldn’t make sense but I supposed anything is possible.

Canez1, if you didn’t do 75% of the work for Ohio State I’d have a hard time forgiving you for VA Tech! ;-)

  41. Sailor I brought up the point about the recruiting classes some time back but I compared the “U” to the “O”.

Just about similar and they are playing the NC game and canes not so much.

Sailor point well taken…but of teams that will finish in the top 10 how many had top 10 recruiting classses??? I know the star rating system isn’t the end all/be all but USUALLY THE star ranking systems are very reliable….Texas and uf this year are the exception and not the rule…same with Stanford the exception and not the rule…how do u think they would fare vs a team like bama/ok??? A team with 5 star talent and superb coaching??

  43. I’ve paid my dues….

    GO CANEZ!!!!!

  44. I think my page is still loading .. those pics are the size of billboards on the highway

Canez1 – whatcu talkin’ bout mangg … you know I don’t lie … I also couldn’t hear what the f*ck Fabulous was saying b/c the bass sounded like Daisy Cutter bombs being dropped

Clowney was down the whole game, seriously looked like someone told him this would be his last game – ever. He wasn’t happy that he was playing injured. I even asked him on camera about him being on one side and Chick being on the other – that brought a big ass smile to his face

Mark Mangino was there. Couldn’t miss that dude. Whatever you think about seeing him on TV, about how big he is – you really don’t know unless you’re standing next to the guy. He’s probably the size of the Statue of Liberty’s big toe

Keyshawn was there. Talked with him a little but he didn’t want to go on camera. Prime Time was there as well, all up in Mariucci’s ears during the game, telling him about plays and probably asking if he could go in, just give him some pads

FSU is stealing recruits away from UiF – gotta love it. Karlos Williams – can’t say enough about that kid. You never know what you’re going to get from kids out where he lives .. you could get a Mike James or Karlos Williams .. or you could get a Chris Rainey. Karlos, I can understand why other kids listen to him when he gives his sales pitch – the kid could bait/switch you all day long, he’s a good salesman and with the way his frame is, he’s going to be scary

Chick is a goofball. Kid won’t stop smiling, making jokes, flexing for the cameras non-stop while laughing

Still pissed about Clowney not even getting any attention from the Canes last year – and like I said, he told me they haven’t even sent him anything or talked to him yet. I asked him about the Canes – you’ll see when I put the video(s) together and post them

  45. nice pics.

    i think

if 2011 moves canechic back to the optimists then it’s a good one

  49. Someone who claims to be in the know said we have a strength coach hired and will be announced when Golden addresses the media..

He’s been pretty accurate excluding Grudens fiasco.

  50. Word is Sparrano is out and Harbaugh is in as Dolphins coach. I don’t care for the Dolphins but IF that is true, we could show interest to

    Jame Vaughters
    Anthony Sarao
and maybe even renew interest in Todd Peat (but he says we are out after Shannon was fired)

  51. Right now looking like Johnson and Holliman to Louisville. Hurrtt is killing it!

  52. ^^^By the way, that is the GOOD word on those 2 from the speaker of TRUTH^^^

  53. Luck is returning to Stanford, wow

  54. Bg, that is surprising and not what I thought would happen…but you know what if they liked Ole Miss, I can see Louisville as well. I expect that team to become a West Va type in terms of their ability to pull from Florida. It is looking more and more like Dorsett could be our only So Fla pull…just need to get that train back on the tracks

Hurtt can recruit, shame he can’t coach worth a shiz, but…

  55. Autumn, that’s not Golden’s wife, that’s someone from the Palm Beach ‘Canes Club. She was in my sorority (years before me) and is an accountant with her own practice.

two guys from Philly, Al and Ben

  57. Andrew Luck says he’s going back to Stanford. So a potential #1 pick goes back to school and Spence and Forston say they may head to the league as sure no greater than 3rd-4th round picks. I say the world is turning on its head.

  58. Hurtt is killin it. He’s bringing in guys we didn’t want and some that we wanted only cause Shannon didn’t want ‘em.

  59. Esteban.

After EVERYTHING begins to come out, makes you question Randy a little on what he doing with recruiting. All of these kids can’t be bad character/grade issues. Many feel Miami disrespected them by NEVER showing any interest. I mean Holliman has 37 offers and NOT 1 of them says Miami. Wow! How do you do that???

  60. They are all too short.

Hurtt pickin up the scraps that feel disrespected by the dent.

    Total fuk up.

    GO CANEZ!!!!!

  61. Spence should Leave What does he have left to Prove?! Not a Damn thing! He is a Baller and coming back next year will not improve his draft stock too much! Forston on the other hand if he has a season next year like he showed during that ND game on a consistent basis will most definitely improve his draft stock.

I would put Benjamin in the same category as Spence: Teams will pick both of those guys up and Benjamin would have to have an even Better year than what Hank had this year to improve his draft stock, he will be taken off of his speed alone!

  62. jim Harbaugh is confirmed to Miami, just not the canes

  63. LOL@Canez1 calling Shanzook the Dent..LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  64. Brownsub.

Spence does not have a position in the NFL right now. He needs to get bigger to stay at LB or faster to move to SS. He’s tweener but yes a football player, but not a finished product. I think he could improve even more because he’s not a GREAT cover LB either so SS would be a struggle for him. We’ll see, but I think he could benefit tremendously by coming back.

Marcus should come back because he’s FAR from a finished product and with another year with GOOD coaching from Franklin like he got from Petri, he could really improve his stock. He needs to do what he did vs ND consistently. Be a Nick Farely, WRECK HAVOC!

Benjamin is fast but he needs to rebound from his sub-par year this year IMO. He’s going to stay small and fast, but he needs to show better concentration and focus than he did this year, also he needs to improve greatly on his route running.

  65. saban only goes after tall CBs that can play bump and run.

and we were expecting 15 ships to give out. we were going to be selective. this year was going to be the year were there were a lot of guys who weren’t going to get offered that in a normal year we might offer. i thought that was an accepted fact. now with guys decommitting we are scrabbling a little to fill spots, especially since there will be transfers and guys going pro that wouldn’t have done either if Shannon was still coach. being that most want to clean up the program all of this should be welcomed. not sure why folk are complaining about it.

seriously too much beeetching about everything that’s done, not done, done the exact way people said they wanted it done, etc.

  66. ^^^Everyone in the NFL is fast so speed becomes LESS important^^^

  67. Esteban.

They are saying they are going all out. Full class of 25, that says some guys will NOT be back.

  68. I agree BG with everything you said in regards to all 3 as far as Spence though, I think he is too slow to be a safety not only in the league but in college too. He is a lb and needs to add on extra weight but even if he does do that honestly can you really say he will improve his draft stock a year from now on what it is currently? Its because of his measurables now that he is even being questioned. His production is not in question especially not after what he did towards the beginning of the season. I think he needs to work on not disappearing towards the end of the season but that could be due to a number of things. If I was him I’d leave, If I was Forston I would come back, If I was Benjamin I MOST Definitely would have to see Who the QB would be if I decided to come back…but I still would probably in his case leave.

  69. On the recruiting front, Chickillo is beyond excited to meet Miami coach Al Golden. The two have spoken plenty of times, but the in-home visit is set for tonight.

“I’m excited to meet him because I haven’t seen him in person yet,” Chickillo said. “We’re still building that relationship because I had known Coach Shannon since I was six years old. I didn’t know a lot about.

Coach Golden but he called me before the game tonight. He’s going to do great things at Miami.”

Chickillo added that Coach D’Onofrio will also visit and he has spoken with Coach Franklin even though he won’t be making the trip to Tampa tonight.

Miami isn’t the only school on Chickillo’s mind as he also will take official visits to Florida, Florida State, and USF in the month of January.

“I’m just going to enjoy it because this is the last time I’m ever going to be recruited,” Chickillo said. “My dad was just telling me this is the last time people will be kissing me butt for the rest of my life.”

  70. Here is Kevin Sousa, the guy on Rivals front page. Looks like a smaller version of Cam Newton.

  71. “My dad was just telling me this is the last time people will be kissing me butt for the rest of my life.”

  72. Since your’e on the recruiting front bG, I guess we have a new commitment.

    brennanpcarroll Brennan Carroll
No names can be posted, but what statement should I tweet when the canes get a new commitment? #CaneFamily #theU

  73. 3G all the way.

Bg, spot on about those 3 guys, and Brownsub, I hear you but measurables do help your draft stock and Spence needs the LBs. And you say he must not disappear, I bet that is totally S & C related.

And if Holliman and Johnson don’t have offers that is dissappointing, but like Este just said, everyone needs to chiiilllll…recruiting is far and away the easiest thing to get hyped about or get down on.

Remember five stars Lance Leggett and James Bryant all day…

  74. and anyone remember Rickey Sealey from Miami High? We missed out on him cause he (maybe was his parents) wanted his brother to go to the same college. We passed on that combo deal even if Rickey was a beast. They go up to Auburn and neither ends up having the best of careers. Norris just wasn’t good enough and i think dude Rickey got injured a good bit if i remember right and ended up quitting the team. Haven’t the Southridge dudes been a combo deal the whole time? If we didn’t want one then that meant the other was a no go too.

  75. I agree Shwarma

  76. bg, saban used that same criteria at LSU though. remember travis daniels, chevis jackson, and so on. weren’t fast at all, but could get in your grill and were long.

  77. Brownsub.

Don’t know yet. It’ll be out soon I’m sure.

  78. Sousa’s throwing motion looked god awful, no thanks

  79. ^I 2nd that motion by his senior highlights I saw today!

  80. Brownsub,

Also he may just be asking what he should say. Ha!

  81. i bring up past things just cause…ain’t none of this stuff new. it happens every year. we just ain’t winning at this time so everything is a bigger deal.

There are going to be some reaches and the goggles are def on.

It ain’t going to be the prettiest class but it will get the job done. Isn’t that what it’s all about anyway at that time of night.

  85. I hear ya bg, so tell me if this list is accurate: Nova, McDade, Souza, Brissett and Williams?

  86. Actually Canez, I think the Dent is. One because he actually has one, and two because that’w what he did to the program. He didn’t crash the car like Coker, he just dented but with some good fixing it could be good as new

  87. Shannon may have dented the car, but I think the car would be a bicycle right now if we had another Coker.

I’m going to disagree and I think this staff will surprise come signing day. They put in too much work and effort not too. Won’t be S. Fla kids, but I think good players anyways. 98. ^ or they’re f’ing crazy and always starting sh!t when the game is on

  99. Richardson and Donnell Bennett are really close. Bennett coaches at Richardson’s Alma Mater so I’d expect us to get BJ Dubose as long as Dubose qualifies academically.

I really like this staff’s attitude and grit on the trail. Can’t wait to see it between the lines.

—- now er’body know Teddy was the one and only in this class till the f$u beat down, then the j12 lenching….and while bridge was committed 90% of the ppl thought we were good at the qb spot…but like este said when things went toward Cuba recruits bailed…jean louis, gorman and the like…now this staff is left to scramble like most of us THOUGHT would happen…that’s why ppl were like cut Shannon now bcoz this class will be small anyway but 2012 is LOAD!!!! I said from jump the most important recruits for goldie and crew was already home!!! Get them to buy into your system and you good…but it looks that many of Shannon guys are ready to bail so….it is what it is!!!

  108. avatar
    hurricanedave69 says:

shows you how much this team was split…..if Shannon had stayed some some players not close to Shannon would have bailed, just like in past previous years ( 3 QB’s within one year)

players transferring has always taken place for whatever reason

When you take 8 guys from the same school, there is always a chance that clicks will form…most of the guys talking about leaving, come the same program…a couple of names surprise me

I have often said that for some on this team the high point of till now is winning a Nat’l championship at the HS not the college level

If Spence and TB3 and Forston want to leave, then bu-bye.

Another thing you have to consider when Jr’s are leaving this year, is the CBA and possible rookie salary cap and signing bonuses will be much smaller in 2012’s NFL Draft (more than likely).

I can see why Harris wants to leave. He’s a JR., looking to get some bonus cash while the getting is good. He’ll go no lower than 2nd round. Good to decent money.

On #99, #3, and #31, I agree 100% with bg on everything he said; it’s a solid analysis, so no need to rehash.

There are always defections after a coach leaves, its normal. Not everyone will be happy, especially upperclassmen.

I think everyone with the exception of Harris would be better than not coming back, but if they want to leave, no skin off my back. Leave and make room for some of Golden and Staff’s guys.

Mechanics can be fixed. Especially when they’re still very young.

  144. I LOL’D, SO ACCURATE

I would lighten things up a bit with some humor. Here’s a little satire of what it would have been like after the Sun Bowl if RS was still our coach:

Opening statement: Tough loss today, we just didn’t get done the things we needed to get done. Like I always tell the guys, it’s a process. We were only a couple scores away from coming back in the second half. That was good. We just need to correct the mental mistakes and get better as a football team for next season.

Q: Tell us about what happened in the first quarter on defense.

A: Don’t know. Have to look at the film. Blown assignments. Couldn’t tell you.

Q: Were you disappointed Jacory threw 3 interceptions in the first half?

A: Those were on the receivers. Hankerson should have come back for the ball.

Q: But not all of those interceptions were thrown to Hankerson. Some of them were thrown to no one in particular it seems.

A: Jacory’s fine, he’s just messing with you guys.

Q: Will he be available to the media?

    A: No.

Q: What did you think about Stephen Morris’ performance? It seems like the team really rallied behind him and he did some good things in the second half.

A: You guys always say that. You don’t talk about the fact he started [his] first drive by throwing an interception. [Morris] did okay. He has a lot to improve on.

Q: What is wrong with this football team?

A: It’s like anything. Guys just have to get back to the process and flying around and we’ll be fine. There is no problems that ‘aint part of the process. We got nicked this year. Jacory got nicked, McCarthy got nicked, a lot of guys [got nicked].

Q: Why wasn’t Storm Johnson playing more? It seems like he got a few nice runs in there.

A: He just wasn’t getting done the things we needed him to get done.

Q: Do you consider this season a disappointment?

A: No, it’s not a disappointment. We won more games this year than the first year when I started. We made a bowl game, we didn’t my first year. We finished second in the [ACC Coastal], which is one better than last year. Like I always tell the guys, it’s a process. You guys are always trying to make this a bigger deal than it is. It’s all part of the process.

Q: What’s the status of Tommy Streeter?

    A: He’s a little nicked, but he’ll be fine.

Q: Does it hurt to get beat so badly in a bowl game by a hated rival like Notre Dame?

A: Not really. Bowl games is bowl games. You can’t do anything about it.

Q: Why do you think the team seemed to give such little effort in the first half?

A: It’s like anything. We had a long flight on the way over here. Then guys had to walk to some meetings with the FBI where they told them not to go across the border. Then they had to walk back to the hotel, and then over to the bus stop to get a ride to the game. I think guys got a little nicked up in the process. A lot of people don’t realize it, but it’s really tough to walk a lot of places before a football game.

Q: Do you have any plans for New Years?

A: No. New Years is New Years. Just another day in the process.

Q: What do you think of the rumors that you’ve been fired and replaced by Temple’s coach Al Golden?

A: I don’t worry about nothing like that. That’s your job.

  147. I heard he was rumored to be the one that brought secondary violations onto us..

No proof or anything, just that bossman Shannon didn’t particularly care for him and that’s why “no positions came open”..

Also heard he’s a beastly recruiter, it’s just some of his tactics may be “questionable” in some instances..

No idea, never met the man..

  148. Anyone who could bring some of the talent that’s made it’s way into UNC in..

    chikkenlittle says:

so this is where everybody hangs out now?

  152. Bennie – the guy is an animal at recruiting … Butch would attest to that. He told me a lot about how Boss Man Shannon handled recruiting as opposed to Butch – also all the differences between Miami and the other schools, how embarrassing it was truthfully and how if Miami wanted to completely dominate the world of college football by just spending a little more money on recruiting, they would

Remember in “The U Documentary” when Shockey talked about how if Miami could just land all the kids from south Florida, how they wouldn’t lose a game in 20 years? That’s not too far from the truth if they wanted to spend some coin on their recruiting

The guy has the phone number, email addy, Facebook, Twatter, Myspace, etc. of over 150+ stud kids out there and he’s constantly pounding them

Where do you think Storm Johnson came from. Latwan Anderson. Seantrel Henderson. Albert Louis-Jean only gave Miami consideration b/c of Paul. These were all guys that Paul was in the ear of – constantly – to put Miami in their heads

Paul got shafted at Miami – he was down there b/c he wanted to be at Miami, was promised a position there .. .but guys like Tim Harris and Corey Bell were hired instead – and just what in the f*ck did they do while at Miami?

He said he would’ve worked for $40,000 a year. Just let him do recruiting and nothing but recruiting all year long, 365/24-7

He told me a lot of things about how things were handled at Miami with certain people like Clint Hurtt and Aubrey Hill. Like I said, a lot of things are coming out in the wash and are becoming true to the public of what he told me a while ago

Lovett flipped a gasket when Hill told him they weren’t recruiting Clowney. Whipple freaked out when told they weren’t going to try to go after Will Hill. Now, you see all these kids and coaches from around everywhere saying that Miami didn’t pay attention to them when Boss Man Shannon/Hill/Hurtt, etc. were there

If that sh*t doesn’t piss Canes fans off, I dunno what does

Think of all the kids out there that said they grew up wanting to play for Miami, but they weren’t offered or were ignored

I probably shouldn’t have just written what I did, b/c it will probably be spread onto other sites by people who read this … but I didn’t even get into the juicy sh*t that Paul told me

  153. Bennie – check that, it wasn’t Will Hill, it was Matt Elam I was thinking of

  154. Most of what you said has been covered though..

By at least ONE site or another..

Randy and his squad did some things that could piss ANYONE off.

I mean seriously, if you’ve got a game ass kid raring and READY to come to the school and you don’t want to offer him, let alone pay him any attention because you’re possibly AFRAID he’ll DECLINE and hurt your ego? GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE WITH THAT.

His view of the Miami way was skewered as shit. You think Schnellenberger or Jimmy Johnson left any stone unturned down there??

  155. Whipple wanted Elam?

    Isn’t he a safety?

And hate to ask, but is your guy even considering trying to get ahold of Golden to put in an app? I would say his work speaks for itself..

Not to mention B. Harris is gone so I can’t see papa Harris being able to hang around anymore..

    CanesCanesCanes says:

Found these two quotes sent to me in my inbox (#1 & #2)

1.Canes make top two for DT:
Lake Butler (FL) Union County High School DT Lonnie Gosha says he’s down to a two team battle: “It’s Miami and Arkansas,” he says. For now, it’s Arkansas with a slight advantage. “I already visited Arkansas,” he said. “Right now Miami is No. 2 because Arkansas, they stayed with me the whole time and Miami was delayed because of the coaching change. But it’s close.” UM will have a chance to make up ground in a couple of weeks – he’s scheduled an official visit to Coral Gables for Jan. 21.

    2. Canes Reach out to OL; Interest is Mutual
Scranton (PA) Preparatory OG Kevin Reihner was recruited by Al Golden when the coach was at Temple. He wasn’t interested then. But now that Golden’s at Miami, it’s a whole different story. Reihner is currently a Stanford commitment, but with the coaching situation there in flux he is open to UM. “I absolutely want to check out Miami,” Reihner said. “If I had an offer from Miami and Stanford became unappealing, Miami would be my No. 1. Miami, I honestly didn’t know it was a fantastic school (academically).”

Check out the last sentence on #2. I know it might not make a difference to a lot of people, but it’s part of Goldie’s mantra, and rightly so: “ranked 47th nationally academically and first in the state”

    Go Canes

  190. who’s the Central commit?

  191. Miami had never recruited him before this week. Then defensive coordinator Mark D’Onofrio showed up at Miami Central earlier this week and the two had a 15-minute conversation.

“He said he would be recruiting me and would go back and talk to the head coach,” Finnie said. “That same day he called me back and offered.”

Dolphins problem is ownership, pure and simple. Who cuts the balls off his coach in public and then keeps him?

Guy is starstruck. Just shows what a great country America is. You can be a complete idiot and have no business sense and still make millions. Seriously, who de-balls their coach publicly and then keeps him. What result does he expect next year?

The only reason Sparano is staying is because it’s worth millions to him. I think he’s probably enough of a man, if not a good coach, to say f-you o Ross, if he could get his buyout/salary in the processs, but to get that he would have to be fired and Ross ain’t firing him.

  194. on most bad teams you can look at the owner and understand why that team sucks. Redskins being a local example around my way.

    CanesCanesCanes says:

    Esteban

So true. What’s the deal with Snyder anyway? Is that guy EVER going to learn? He’s made every mistake in the book and the thing is he keeps making the SAME mistakes over and over again. Example: overpaying for players – how many times has he done that? And coaching selections – do you think Shanahan is the answer. I don’t follow skins that closely but from a distance it looks like Shanahan is going to go nowhere.

  196. I guess things between Luke and Golden are just fine, and now that Aubrey “Central is too hood” Hill is gone, fences are starting to mend

Also, on Finnie’s Rivals picture the “boy” looks 25

  202. i thought Shanahan could be as good as an answer as any, before they traded 2 high picks for McNabb and then sat him in favor of Grossman. I think Shanahan, besides that move, also made two moves that pretty much sealed the deal Redskins chances for early success. 1) Hired his son who’s offensive philosophy ain’t really in tune with his father’s – always looked too pass happy to me. 2) switching to a 3-4 when he’s got a pretty strong group of players on defense when they are lined up in a 4-3 – but are all out of place in a 3-4. so instead of having to just fill a spot here or there on defense they have to over haul the whole thing and their best young player (Orapko) has said he feels more comfortable with his hand in the dirt. Defense went from being a strength to a mess with that move.

  207. i woulda took Bridgewater over Williams. and I’ll take Sousa over him – I liked his footage. Overall, just wasn’t impressed by Williams tho. He’s got good size, but didn’t think too much of his arm or really of his running. 6’4 and 220 in high school people are going to struggle bringing you down. Didn’t look particularly fast or elusive. I know he’s decommitted and talked bad, but purely as a QB i’d still take Teddy over the rest. I thought he looked a lot more physically gifted than Jacory from jump. Just would have to see if he put in the work or not to make the transition to primary pro style QB – but the tools are there. Sousa though is a good looking prospect tho. coach him up and he works hard and he’s the one the NFL wants in 4/5 years instead of the rest.

Looks like Decker is the new S&C football guy.

Does anyone have a BIO on this Decker guy?

  209. FIU North or South? FIU North and he’s probably not the only guy packin.

  210. I didn’t know there was more than one FIU . . .

  212. Me neither JSQ??

I looked on the herald and only found the article about no smoking at FIU, which pleases me A LOT!!!!

  213. Maybe the FIU cops were out busting smokers instead of the dudes with the guns, who knows?

  214. I’m all for smoking outdoors. And smoking in doors if its a restaurant and they have a sign on the front door saying they allow smoking. my freedom of choice allows me to choose another establishment or allows me to inhale that smoke. i’m not a smoker, but if people want to smoke while eating/drinking with others who want to do that then places should be able to cater to that.

  217. Well Este after watching my Dad suffer with lung cancer….I am all for banning cigs! I always choose civil liberties first but my Dad would still be around if he never smoked. Now my Mom has to have her lungs checked every six months because she lived around that smoke for so many years. So I can say my opinion has completely changed on this one.

  218. Cubed, I’m hunched over just thinking about that! Who would agree to that?!

I used to canvas houses for the Kennedy campaigns in PG county and I’m picturing some of the people I met going door to door right now . . .

  219. avatar
    CanesCanesCanes says:

JSQ – I’m sure you’ve talked to people that have worked in an ER. I have a friend that’s an ER doc and have had many acquaintances over the years in that line of work. I can tell you, and you probably already know, that is just the tip of the iceberg. Whatever you can imagine, it’s been tried. Sometimes to catastrophic result. Some are funny. Some are gross. Some are deadly.

  220. I hear you, Canechic, but bans like that only push smokers elsewhere for the health/convenience of non-smokers. They don’t stop people from smoking. When I was in SG at UM we passed bills banning smoking within a certain distance of the dorms and other places. People would either break the rules and risk getting cited or they would smoke in their dorm room or they would be 50 feet away from the dorm.

  221. canechic, my abuelos from my mother’s side both died from lung cancer and my father smokes a few dominican sugars every day. i personally don’t like smoking, smelling smoke, nada with smoke. but i’m not into the gubment disallowing people to smoke in places that want to allow it. people can’t smoke in a place that serves 3000 calorie meals and serves liquor. obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, alcoholism, etc all served up.

  222. None of my doctor friends from undergrad are in south Florida so I only hear things via Facebook now and again and it usually isn’t that bad.

That story turned my stomach much like I’m sure Lorena Bobbit does for men!

  223. Good point, Esteban.

Maybe this is Missouri medicine, but my mom’s doctor told her that with the amount she smokes, she is actually healthier at her age than an obese person would be.

  224. avatar
    pb(EOTHROH11) says:

I agree with CC. Smoking is just as deadly as a small pox plague, just slower in it’s effect.

The fact this country allows the sale of an known killer that his highly addictive is laughable when you compare it to the FDA banning medicines used world wide for treatment of disease because of some minor, unproven side effects.

    The great hypocricy.

  225. avatar
    CanesCanesCanes says:

Yeah, JSQ, it’s pretty disgusting any way you look at it. But it’s also incredibly negligent on his part. I get immersed in home projects from time to time, and I have a few tools, including a sabre saw, and all you have to do is use it one time to know what it can do. The guy is a complete moron with a room temperature iq.

As far as Bobbit, that’s just a queasy feeling. I guess the only amusing thing about the whole story is this: didn’t she drive off and throw it out the car window and the responders had to drive around to find it? Or is that just an urban myth?

  226. The car thing I can understand but wasting the beer? Smh . . .

    http://www.nbcmiami.com/news/weird/wifedumpsbeer-113018309.html

  227. You guys have all valid arguments about people still smoking but we have to start somewhere. I cannot stand walking through doors of any building will people are outside smoking. If they have to all smoke on their own time, in their own area and are isolated from others they just might have a bit more incentive. May not deter everyone but it may eventually start working and more and more people will quit. This is such a big business and so much money coming from big tobacco that this is going to be a long fight.

The Oncologist looked right at my Dad and said, “Had you not smoked, you probably never would have had cancer”. And I can’t tell you how many times my Dad told me and my Mom, “Got to die of something”. His grandfather smoked and lived to ninety so he used grandpa Roach as his crutch. But my great grandfather rolled his own smokes, did not live when the air pollution was as high as it is today and ate fresh veggies, fresh fruits, meat not filled up with chemicals and most certainly never ate a frozen dinner and did not drink. So my Dad learned the hard way and I wish he would have quit :(

  228. I think that’s correct, Cubed. Pretty amusing to me, but then again, I don’t have said equipment being discarded from a moving vehicle! hahahaha

    Cheese.

Just say no to that baked brie!

  231. I hear you, Canechic. I’m afraid the same thing is going to happen to my mom. I also hate walking through the wall of smoke from all the Merrill Lynch people every morning.

I just think the ban is pointless. People are going to do what they want to do.

    CanesCanesCanes says:

The smoking thing is pretty polarizing and I can see both sides. I say that knowing that I will on occasion burn a nice cigar (like a couple of times a month).

PB’s comments are on point, but tobacco has been such a huge part of our history, and it’s so culturally and economically entrenched, especially in some southern states, that to totally ban it is impossible and would actually create a prohibition market, imo

  233. Like I said got to start somewhere.

JSQ it is heartbreaking to watch him suffer, worst is he was so angry with himself for causing it.

I know people will continue to smoke. I have never ever been one to judge but going through that with my father changed my feeling 100%.

I saw a lady standing outside her house yesterday smoking over her baby and it take everything in me not to scream at her.

  234. All this talk is coming from someone who also thinks some other drugs should be legalized and taxed the he!! out of, so take my opinion for what it is. I’m not commenting on anyone personally and I have had people in my family die from drinking and smoking.

All I’m saying is we can’t rely on the government to save us from ourselves.

  235. Yeah, Canechic, that’s terrible re: the baby.

My mom has cut WAY back on smoking and I’m hoping I never have to go through that experience. I can’t imagine how difficult it must have been for you.

  243. smoking & drugs . . .the usa could learn from some european countries.
    legalized, taxed marijuana in several.
    no major problems.

i disagree about not having bans of smoking at restaurants . . . when i first got to europe in the 80’s, i’d swear 80% of the public smoked. it was everywhere.

but in the last decade it changed drastically as awareness changed . . . in the last couple of years one country after the other has banned smoking from public places; some drastically.

people seem to be very okay with it. no public outcries; a badge of courage for the remaining smokers huddled outside restaurants or workplaces.

    it’s all to do with cultural change;
change that and it’s no big deal . . . strangely enough, not even a problem with the ban in pubs & bars.

  249. Canechic, we just got Lead Plaintiff 3 of the securities cases, maybe 4, we’ll see. There are all sorts of lawsuits, though. There is one down here against WPO/Kaplan for employment discrimination. One in Chicago, too, I think. Really horrible practices by these companies. The article I posted compared it to what banks did with the subprime crisis which I think is pretty dead on – selling the American dream to people knowing you are just putting them deeper in the hole. Shameful.

  270. When I used to manage detail shops at various car dealerships, I’d make sure that a few of my guys that were primarily just the wheel/window guys would go smoke up the sticky icky a few times a day out in the woods … I just told them that I don’t want to smell it, b/c if I can smell it, then the Used Car Manager and New Car Managers could probably smell it

Made sure to always have a bunch of junk food stored as well in some cabinets with liters of Hawai’ian Punch. Those workers loved that sh*t

The reason I’d let them go smoke up and then come back and just work on the wax/wheel/windows – b/c those chuckleheads wouldn’t remember how many times they cleaned the windows & wiped down the wheels/rims – so they’d sometimes double the amount or even triple the amount, so the damn windows would look great & the wheels/rims wouldn’t have a speck of sand on them and would have a few coats of dressing

Keep the workers happy and use what they love to do at your advantage

And if you think we had any kind of drug tests – have you ever worked at a lot of car dealerships? You were considered weird if you were a car salesman and didn’t have some kind of arrest on your record … the detail guys might as well have been wearing jump suits, b/c a lot of them lived in halfway houses and I drove them to/from them every day

  303. Q: What are you looking for in an offensive coordinator?

Golden: I want a pro style offense. Watching Stanford, we want to get back to that, having that kind of quarterback here at Miami. We feel we have two coming back that can do those types of things. We’re looking for a coordinator that believes first and foremost being a tough, physical football team. I don’t believe you can do anything without being tough and disciplined. We want to be a dynamic play-action team, have a guy that can stand in there and throw a three-step and stand behind those (offensive linemen).

  304. yes, kidding 100%. I think i mentioned Dan Werner for the job a while back so had to go with someone else from that time frame who was brought in by Coker to run our unbalanced line offense. I would bring up Rich Olson, but he is always good with me. Remember him responding to a question on why we didn’t throw deep against a certain team by saying like “i call the plays, but the QB has to be willing to throw it deep”. “BIG ARM” Kyle Wright used to love throwing them hook passes all damn day. Would kill me he never threw it downfield unless the guy was wide open. I actually was really glad that Nix would call deep pass after deep pass at times. Can tell they made it clear that Kyle was to throw it deep no matter what. Crazy thing was it worked a lot more than you would have thought. and speaking of nix…after two years of Whipple I started thinking “damn we shoulda just kept Nix for this”.

  305. Thank god Este, had me scared for a second

  306. It’s been incredible. We have 45 visits scheduled this month. The last couple of years I don’t think they got out of the 30’s in total visits. We have to get the right ones, get to know them as people. Most importantly make sure the ones you get can play for you (instead of worrying about ranking systems or offer lists). We’re not trying to make Rivals lists. The 15, 16, 17 guys that we get (we have to make sure) can play for us.

I love the fact that our health plans at work ask if you smoke or don’t smoke – and if you don’t, you’re supposed to get some kind of discount …. that’s f*cking stupid unless they’re actually going to regulate it hard core and punish the people that lie about it so they can get the discount

Also like how in some places that I’ve worked, they allowed a certain amount of smoke breaks a day for some of the employees – what in the f*ck is that – while they’re out choking down on cancer sticks, I’m still having to work

Peeps up at work who smoke know to get far out of my way when I walk in and out of the door(s), b/c I have a can of that air blaster crap that you use on electronics to blow the dust away, and if they’re near me or the door I tell them to back the hell off b/c I’ve sprayed their asses as I’ve walked by

If I want to walk or run through some f*cking smoke on my way to do my job, then I would’ve played football for the Canes and run through that tunnel onto the field

That that sh*t away from where people walk into the door(s). Maybe I’ll start dipping and stand next to the door(s) and make sure to unload some streams of tabacky all over the damn place, esp. when people walk by, see how they like that sh*t, maybe it will bounce off the concrete onto their nice new stripper looking heels they bought or Ferragamos .. or maybe they’ll get some of the tabacky spray on their clothes as they walk by

i thought Shanahan could be as good as an answer as any, before they traded 2 high picks for McNabb and then sat him in favor of Grossman.

    >>>>>>>>>>

Sounds like Shanahan’s passed his prime. Those are boneheaded moves.

    >>>>>>>>>

Maybe, maybe not. He’s going to run that mix of West Coast Bill Walsh offense and power-I that he used at Stanford.

The key to his success was that he never relied on the players to be incredible, to make incredible passes or blocks or catches. He kept it simple but the execution of everyone was the key, THIS year at least. 2009 wasn’t special at all.

In the NFL, players will HAVE to make great plays almost regularly, so it should be interesting to see what he does. One thing he’ll have to do is stretch the field on 1st and 2nd down. NFL defenses will sit on that short shyt all day long until he forces them to back off.

Bill Walsh had a few GREAT players at key positions who routinely made great players, even though his playcalling was masterful in that it generally didn’t require great plays.

    It should be interesting.

    Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer says:

I just read the story of the local CB, Finnie, who Team Golden stole from Spurrier and all I can say is anyone worries about recruiting with this staff doesn’t need to worry. Although it did help that Spurrier didn’t even come to see the kid. lol But still. The kid was an EE.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Finnie (5-10, 170, 4.4-speed) was a three-year starter for the Class 6A state champion Rockets and is considered the 39th best cornerback in the country by Rivals. He grew up dreaming of being a Miami Hurricane. But it wasn’t until Friday that it became a reality.

“It’s been a big week — a lot has changed,” said Finnie, an early enrollee who was all set to drive up to South Carolina Friday morning before UM got into his recruiting picture earlier this week. “I guess you can say it’s pretty special. Everything is going to be good. I’m going to be a Miami Hurricane. I was always a Cane fan, grew up down here. Everybody likes to dream about UM and everything. Now, it’s real.”

Finnie received initial interest from the Hurricanes at the beginning of his senior season. But then, UM backed off. Finnie then committed to South Carolina and assumed the Hurricanes weren’t interested. The plan for Finnie’s family was to drive up to South Carolina this weekend. But little by little, Golden and his assistants got UM back into the picture, starting with a visit from D’Onofrio on Monday.

“They really showed themselves, really went after him the way they should recruit a kid,” Finnie Sr. said. “Coach Golden told him everything we needed to hear in terms of us parents putting our child in his hands. They actually really showed the program to him and to me and my wife. He did a hell of a job.

“The recruiter from South Carolina did a good job. But we were suppose to meet with Steve Spurrier Wednesday and he never showed. The recruiter told us he had an emergency. But you could kind of see through that. That, he just wasn’t going to come to that. That kind of took the air out of my son. When you get to meet the head coach, that means a lot to a kid, shows that you really want him. That took the air out of him. My wife wanted to meet him for him to know that ‘I’m going to put my son in your hands.’

“But Golden went all out man. I’m talking about since yesterday and he had one day to do it. I told him my son is leaving in the morning. He asked for an opportunity to do it, to talk with us and everything. And he went at it. He was in Tampa with [Anthony] Chickillo. He said ‘I’ll come straight to your house when I leave there.’ But I knew it was going to be at 2 or 3 in the morning. So we setup a meeting at 6 a.m. Everything he told my son starting yesterday, that made my son say he’ll commit to UM.”

Finnie, a former assistant coach at Miami Northwestern, said Golden and his staff really impressed him and just kept asking for an opportunity.

“The new coaching staff apologized for what happened, ‘Saying we didn’t have the opportunity to recruit, come after your son. Now, we’re doing what we have to do to.’ And I mean, in two days man, not even a whole day everything changed,” Finnie Sr. said. “[Golden] really put pressure on us. He came at us. He was unreal. He was like: ‘Sir I apologize for the old staff. We have a whole new staff. We evaluated your son, watched the state championship game and we were very impressed. We really like what we saw in him. And we want him, we want him bad. Whatever it is, I’m going to do everything I have to do to get him.’

“He impressed me and my wife. He showed I want him. They always said he was a heck of a recruiter. He can go get ‘em and he showed he could do it. He went after him. He didn’t let me say no. We tried everything. We said when we give our word, we stand behind it. He said ‘I understand that. But give me an opporunity.’ And he went from there.

“He told us everything a coach should tell a parent as far as getting their kid. South Carolina did it too. But we only got a chance to talk to the recruiter. [UM's] defensive coordinator, Michael Barrow, quite a few of the coaches contacted us about him. They said they evaluated him and that he has an opportunity to come in and play right now. They put it on the table. When they do it like that, it’s hard to say no. Plus, he’s staying home.”

Finnie said he hopes to come in and compete right away for a starting job. The Hurricanes have only five cornerbacks on their current roster for 2011: redshirt sophomore Brandon McGee, junior and former running back Lee Chambers and three redshirt freshmen.

“There’s no better place than home,” Finnie said. “With Brandon Harris and all the cornerbacks left, there’s a lot of opportunity. They got new coaches, a new playbook. The U is going to be back and I want to be a part of it.”

  349. Greenwood (Miss.) Amanda Elzy High School CB Jermaine Whitehead is a Mississippi State commitment, but with his favorite coach leaving that program he has opened things up.

Cane DB coach Paul Williams got in contact with him last week, setting up a visit for him that was finalized on Tuesday.

Whitehead left his home state this morning for Miami, and he had some parting words for his football coach, Eric House.

“Before he left I talked with him and he said that playing for the Miami Hurricanes was a childhood dream,” House said. “So I guess he won’t really believe that this is actually happening till he gets there.”

If UM can pull in the four-star prospect, it would be a major coup for new coach Al Golden and his staff.

Whitehead has all the ingredients the new coaches want – character, academics and football skills. He has a 3.8 grade-point average and 24 ACT score, and he’s a star in basketball and baseball (as a center fielder) as well as football.

  364. Congratulations, Brownsub!!! I’m not a niners fan outside of Gore, but I’m happy Harbaugh is going to make it a competitive team!

I was just having this discussion with my Patriots-loving Paisan boss because I’m trying to get him to become a ‘Canes fan bc Golden was a TE for the Pats (1 year but still). He is sort of wishy-washy on college – he sort of roots for the crocs because of the number of them in the office but follows the ‘Canes now too. I can’t imagine rooting for another college team outside of the occassional Razorback cheer or whomever is playing the criminoles, crocs, or suckeyes. The turkeys, too, I guess.

However, I will root for just about any NFL team with a ‘Cane on it, with the Ravens and Saints being my favs. I think my boss would rather lay down in traffic than root for anyone other than the Pats.

So, Brownsub, are you a die-hard niners fan or do you root for other ‘Canes in the NFL?

  366. I love it JSQ! I am just not sure about those cliquey officer wives! They just love to gossip and give you that look from across the room….you know the one I mean. Ugh girls are just b!tches, except of course for you and KL!

I am just trying to get ideas online before I actually go to the stores and I just love this one.

  367. I’m more on the side of F ‘em, dress how you want . . .

unless it’s going to make you feel uncomfortable.

I’ve worn some things I thought were fine until I realized that everyone, including women, were having a conversation with my chest instead of my face. Which is why I tend to dress in jerseys and yoga clothes the rest of the time. Can’t see anything in those!

It’s hard to find a formal dress that doesn’t show the girls off, though.

You should join Gilt Group and Rue La La. Designer stuff usually 40-60% off. I got a Betsey Johnson coat there for $99, regularly $450!

  368. I know the look well . . .

Usually shot at you by chicks with beestings.

  369. Too funny JSQ! I have had issues with people having conversations with my chest all my life! I am still looking but I am not a girly girly. I like very sleek, clean lines….no fu fu la la dresses for me. Maybe I can hide them with double sided tape and take them out later after the formal. Although I do not believe there are many happening clubs in Columbus, GA. lol

  370. JSQ,

I am a Die-hard 9ers fan just like I am a die-hard Canes fan! However, I root for EVERY Cane that plays in the NFL. It’s crazy because I’m from Miami so I can explain my love of the hurricanes but San Fran, Never even visited! Lol. I just remember those were the very 1st teams I watched when I was small and I have been rooting for them ever since!. I remember rooting for them as a little kid when Jerry Rice, and Steve Young were there and constantly getting our @sses kicked by Jimmy and his Cowboys until Mr. Deion Primetime Sanders Arrived! Being so young back then I didn’t know about the history Jimmy and the Playmaker had with the Canes. Had I would’ve known, I probably would have been a Cowboy fan. Needless to say I’m happy I didn’t know what I know now! I can’t stand the Cowboys!

  372. brownsub, correction, san fran didn’t beat dallas because primetime was their, the only reason they won that year because the dallas had barry switzer as their headcoach so san fran jumped out to a 21 to 0 lead, but than irvin and crew started tracking san fran down in the 2nd half and than the ref’s started cheating, particularly when irvin bombed primetime, had em by a step and deion had to grab irvin by the shoulder to prevent him from catching the ball, one of the most obvious blown interference calls all of all time, irvin burnt deion on that play, and had irvin not been held, dallas would’ve won that game and more than likely won a 3rd straight superbowl, of course they won it the next year.

Although deion came over to dallas, they didn’t need em that year, they were going to win it anyway.

  373. I get it, Brownsub. My mom is a die-hard Bears fan but has never been to Chicago. She was a huge Payton fan. I got her a throwback Ladies Payton jersey for Christmas (it was actually from Sebastian) and she loves it!!! But now she roots for all the ‘Canes in the NFL, she just wants the Bears to win and the other guys to have good games!

  374. Anybody else realize that the National Champion this year (Auburn or Oregon) will have a head coach in his 2nd year with the team? Go back the last 10 years and you’ll see that the National Champions have a coach with 1-4 years of being with the team. (Except for Mack Brown but that was Vince Youngs’ 3rd season with them.)

    2009- Alabama/Saban 3rd
    2008- Florida/Meyer 4th
    2007- LSU/Miles 3rd
    2006- Florida/Meyer 2nd
    2005- Texas/Brown 8th (3rd year for VY though)
    2004- USC/Carrol 4th
    2003- LSU/Saban 4th
    2002- Ohio St/Tressel 2nd
    2001- Miami/Coker 1st
    2000- Oklahoma/Stoops 2nd

It was something that Alonzo Highsmith brought up when discussing Randy Shannon as well. If you don’t get it quickly, you probably are not going to get it.

All these other teams have similar recruiting classes and are very comparable to Miami now. Although Golden isn’t taking over a Coker level team, we have talent on this roster right now.

    (Depending on transfers & injuries.)
IMO in YEAR ONE of the Golden Era we should be competing for the ACC Championship. YEAR TWO we should win the ACC championship and compete for the National Championship. By YEAR THREE & FOUR anything less than a National Title should be considered a failure, and time to look for a new coach. A NC by year 3 & 4 probably means we’ll be looking for a new coach as well.

Listening to Golden and Coach D’, they “get it”. Penalties, poor tackling, lack of focus are so costly to victory. It doesn’t take any talent to run to the ball. With competent coaching we should beat all the teams we are supposed to beat and narrow the gap between us and the “elite” programs.

Some of U have been so traumatized by the decline of Hurricane football that you are expecting the worst so you won’t be dissapointed. Too each their own, but dam, if you can’t get excited 9 months before your next game (we ARE undefeated in 2011 folks!), what’s the point?

  375. Nash

I read it and it was some good stuff. Was going to cut ‘n paste the really good stuff but there was too much! :)

The key will be to see Golden implement what he says. I’ve heard a lot of talk about competition etc… I believe he will, think he “gets it”.

Love the part about the player who prepares and practices the best gets to start. The player who plays the best gets to finish the game.

What I was begging for last year. You don’t need to sub out a habitual offender for the entire game but let him know what the bench feels like for a play, a series, or a quarter.

  408. Bo Pelini to LSU? Maybe. Then again Osborne can pony up some bucks, and I’m not sure he’d be willing to bolt so soon with the up and coming “Big 10″ schedule looming.

  409. JSQ , Angry is going to get a weekend pass for the weekend of the 21st. I am going to drive up to visit him on that Friday so I won’t be able to help with house. Sorry :(

  410. Forget Sammy Watkins.

Watkins said he asked South Fort Myers athletic director Bill Blakemore to deter any college recruiters from all schools other than Clemson from visiting campus. Coaches from other schools, Watkins said, are still trying to recruit him – to no avail.

Davey Boy just can’t coach em up, there’s been a lot of that going around lately.

  418. I’m sure he felt the heat Randy..

Georgia Tech and Clemson BOTH fell out of the scope this year. Georgia Tech I can understand, Paul Johnson got used to beating on teams with inferior talent with that garbage ass triple option offense. When he got his hands on a team in a decent conference (yes I called the ACC decent) instead of independents like Navy — he’s had trouble.

Both teams went to the ACC-CG for the ’09 season, and both of them finished with a losing record this year if I’m not mistaken.

I’m SURE Dabo felt some heat this year. But hey, he lost his two biggest homerun hitters and one of his beasts on defense in Ricky Sapp.

Even if it’s someone that you know, that’s not cool, that’s creepy as f*ck

I’ve left packets of gum before for co-workers on their desk or in their top drawer so none of those human raccoons (who eat people’s food from the fridges up at work & are the first to dive into any food brought to us by businesses) who we have up at work decide to take a few pieces …. they think it’s b/c I know what flava of gum they like, but mainly it’s b/c I’ve run into their dragon ass breath when they’ve talked to me so I’m just trying to help them out

But I haven’t made a drive-by to their pad at whatever o’clock in the early AM to put a packet of Bubbalicious on their doorstep

  445. Yeah, I’m creeped out, guys. Once had a stalker on campus in ’99 who broke in my car all the time (never to steal, only would leave stuff) and would leave stuff at my dorm room door. Butch either kicked him off the team or he lost his scholly but I would flip the f out whenever I saw him after that. I even got rid of my car. I don’t get what motivates people to do stuff like that.

  446. Yes JSQ this visit should be interesting. He can only get a day pass and he has to stay on post for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. So I have to stay in a cabin on the campgrounds of Ft. Benning by myself after 9pm. At least it has a bathroom and seems to be reasonably clean but it looks like it may be dark at night….oh lord I do not even like camping with other people much less by myself. Oh well as long as I get to see him it will be okay…..I think!

Wow! Les Miles to Michigan seems a fait accomplit. Air [Uniof] Michigan has been seen on the tarmac in Louisiana just as it had been at West Virginia when Rich Rod was speaking mum about leaving WVU. http://www.sportsbybrooks.com/univ-of-michigan-officials-jet-in-baton-rouge-29404

With Les to Michigan, Bo Pelini, his fellow coordinator at LSU with Coach Saban during their National Championship run and Les Miles DCoordinator after Saban, appears a true shoo-in to replace Les Miles now. Indeed, Bo Pelini DID FLIRT with Hocutt, and while AD Osborne thought he was potent in shuffling away rumors of “interviews… non-interviews”, the reality is that Bo Pelini got embarassed by Nebraska President, and is not totally happy with the whole Nebraska. Maybe not so unhappy in the middle of bowl preparation to discuss the U’s job… but now this is an ideal gig for Bo at LSU. And Bo and Les are so close, that I wouldn’t be surprised if Les would absolutely tips Bo insofar as when Les goes Michigan

“i don’t think Miles goes to Michigan cause he didn’t before”

    Esteban,
The last time was during a time that Les Miles was on a run that nothing could have slowed its flow. Now the season is over; there is a reason why Michigan waited to fire Rod now, as opposed to earlier when a Les Miles, as in the previouls courtship has a bowl game.

You know the HC of the NY Giants his critics that “They could kiss my ass” and he’s got a SB ring, and solid winning seasons, including this one. And Les Miles has been unfairly criticized as well, but even more so. The only reason that Les Miles doesn’t bolt would be if Michigan does not offer. With the picture of that jet in Baton Rouge, and Les lame non-denial that he unequivacally staying at LSU:

“I told them that (Les Miles) had not had any conversations with Michigan to this point and, if I did, I would communicate with them very effectively,” Miles said according to Terrance Harris of AOL Fanhouse.

At least one of his players, though, slammed the door shut on his coach’s exit based on Miles’ words.

“He said, ‘They have rumors going around about (me) going to Michigan, but it’s not true,’” quarterback Jordan Jefferson said by way of the New Orleans Times-Picayune. “‘It’s nonsense.’ He said hasn’t spoken to anybody, anything about Michigan. We’re going to stick with that and get ready for next year.”

Mmmm, if UMich offers, Les is gone!

  472. avatar
    Balla4lyf says:

If Les goes, then his pal Bo goes LSU.

If Bo goes LSU, then there is this baller stud QB, NFL written all over him, a real star Bubba Star-ling that may listen to overtures from the likes of Al Golden or Bob Stoops, if his head coach Bo Pelini bolts.

Starling is 6ft 5in, as we just might need such a QB to see all the mammoth linemen Shannon, and now Golden, have been recruiting.
