The early bird truly does get the worm. An old piece of wisdom, but so true in so many ways, and as the University of Miami Hurricanes embark upon the start of the 2012 football recruiting cycle, it is quite obvious that this is the mentality currently being employed in Coral Gables. University of Miami Head Coach Al Golden has gone on record saying that the Hurricanes would no longer recruit like clams, letting all the food just rush in, but that they would now recruit like eagles, being deliberate, strong, and decisive hunters with one goal in mind…DOMINATION! As such, Coach Golden and his staff have taken an ultra-aggressive approach to recruiting, and it appears to be reaping benefits as the Canes are off to a scorching hot start to 2012 as they have already secured 7 verbal commitments from some of the top players in Florida for 2012.
Players currently committed to the University of Miami for 2012:
- Gray Crow – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jJziVl8WYw
*Thanks for the footage Six, not much out there on him* - David Thompson – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5G62hge7Vig
RB (1)
- Randy “Duke” Johnson – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJF-JH2pqlQ
- Trent Taylor – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEwpBEnqKbM
LB (1)
- Keith Brown – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5GnnBaIMiI
DB (2)
- Amos “AJ” Leggett – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLG7ohBmdYg
- Willie Bailey – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vq09_tdzy4A
The 7 players committed are truly some of the best the state of Florida has to offer in a year when the state is absolutely loaded at all positions. And with the Canes seemingly being able to secure a full 25+ member class, great things should be expected from this staff on the recruiting trail in 2012.
Based on my initial thoughts, the Canes will have several areas of need to address in 2012, primarily: QB, WR, TE, DT, LB, and S. And although it is still early in the cycle, as the spring evaluation period is still on-going, the staff has aggressively began targeting the top players for 2012, and have extended offers to those prospect they feel represent the absolute best in 2012.
After striking out at QB in 2011, Coach Golden and staff have secured commitments from 2 prep-QBs in Gray Crow of Clearwater, FL (Countryside HS), a proto-typical pro-set QB who is still looking to have his production catch up to his measurables, and David Thompson of Miami, FL (Westminster Christian Academy), a Canes baseball commitment and a top Major League Baseball prospect that has committed to also playing QB if he spurns professional baseball for college, but it would not surprise me a bit to see the Canes acquire yet another QB for the 2012 cycle, as Thompson is a wild card at this point based on his professional baseball potential. The staff also preceded that with the transfer acquisition of ex-Michigan QB Tate Forcier (www.qbforce.com), who will join the Canes to compete with Stephen Morris on the active roster in 2012.
Tate Forcier Highlights – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FX4pBvWpVSo
The Canes are stacked at RB position and should continue to be so in the future as they have a commitment from one of South Florida’s most dynamic and exciting players at any position in Randy “Duke” Johnson of Miami’s Norland HS. Duke is big time talent that should provide an exciting, slashing style of play to the Canes backfield when he arrives in the fall of 2012. However, I would still expect the Canes to secure at least one more RB commitment in this recruiting cycle. Several standouts include St. Thomas Aquinas’ Dami Ayoola and Good Counsel’s (MD) Wes Brown.
The Canes signed 2 WRs in 2011, but after this season, the Canes will be in dire need of WRs. It would not surprise me to see them take upwards of 4 WRs in this class. TE is also a position where depth is a concern, so I’d also anticipate the Canes taking a TE or 2 in this class as well.
Offensive Line is an area of strength, so I’d only expect 2 maybe 3 OL in this class. However, the situation on the defensive side of the ball is much more dire, as DT is a big-time need area. So it would not be surprise me at all to see the Canes take upwards of 3 DTs for 2012. Defensive End, on the other hand, is a pretty deep position, so I’d expect us to take no more than 2 true DEs, perhaps bumping that up to 3 if the prospect is a “tweener” and could perhaps grow into a DT. Currently, the Canes have a verbal commitment from DE Trent Taylor of Lakeland, FL (Lake Gibson HS), who reminds me of former Philadelphia Eagle and Miami Hurricane, Jerome McDougle.
Coach Golden has said repeatedly that the depth at LB must be addressed and that continues to be an area of need in 2012. I’d expect to see the Canes aggressively recruit several LBs (3 to 4) for 2012, and they are already off to a great start here having retained the commitment of LB Keith Brown (Norland HS), who along with RB Duke Johnson, had already been committed to Miami under former Head Coach Randy Shannon’s regime.
Par the course, South Florida is always a hot bed for top flight skill position players and 2012 is no different. Fortunately for the Canes they have already secured two commitments from talented South Florida DBs, Amos “AJ” Leggett (Gulliver Prep) and Willie Bailey (Hallandale HS), as well as actively recruiting several others that have really piqued the interest of the staff including Miramar HS standout, Tracy Howard, and Columbus HS’s, Deon Bush.
Based on the results so far, the Canes staff is on fire and blazing a hot trail in 2012; however, the class is far from being done, as there are many other prospects to keep an eye both locally and nationally that the Canes have legitimate interest in.

I’m sure after watching some of these highlights you will agree that there is a lot to look forward to on the recruiting trail for The U in 2012. It is also refreshing to know that our “EAGLES” are out there hunting–continuing to evaluate, make offers to, and purse some of the very best 2012 has to offer. I personally believe that 2012 will be a remarkable year for the Canes in recruiting, and I boldly predict that when it is all said and done, the Canes will finish 2012 with one of the very best recruiting classes in the country.
Until next time…Go Canes!

DZ8 – I recently started watching Spartacus. If you liked 300 and Gladiator, that is a show to watch. Sex and Violence throughout…..
Speaking of violence. I am in NO WAY siding with UChamps, however, we can all agree that their is always going to be a a small group of officers (regardless of city) who think they are “above the law’ and to a certain degree, corrupt and have no problem letting you know. Of course assuming one is becuase they killed someone is going above and beyond.
I being of Cuban decent have been exposed to such “problems” yet my buddies who are as anglo as they come, never seem to have any issues…..just saying. It’s like anything else, a few bad apples…..maybe I am that bad apple, LOL.
BTW – Did Speed actually make sense today?
Very nice read indeed…..

Autumn in Orlando we have a new station called the HUB. I love watching happy fun shows before bed
*************************************************************
I play about an hours worth of Call of Duty before bed time. I wonder if that is why it takes me a while to fall asleep.
There are bad apples in every profession . . .
JSQ.
No probs! We are going to kick it…when its time! Ha!
Well worth the wait. Jam up job as usual bg….With Duke coming in this year and hopefully Sony next year we will be set at RB as if we weren’t already.
The guy was a f*cking scumbag – how much more clear do I need to be?
Let’s bring this closer to a Cane matter for a second – what would you call the kids who broke into Sean Taylor’s home, armed, shot him (accidentally or not), and it ended up taking his life. Why did the go into his home with a gun in the first place
I’d call them scumbags. Is that wrong?
Uchamps says:
February 22, 2011 at 10:28 AM
“When six called the shooter a scumbag it kind of got to me because no one knows whether the guy was shooting for his life or not. So to call him a scumbag was a little over the top to me. If the man had been killed would the cop have been called a scumbag?”
Why in the F*CK would it matter if a person was shooting at a cop for his life or not? Shooting at a cop for his life? Why are you shooting at a damn cop in the first place?
What would you call Hydra Lacey, the guy that shot & killed 2 St. Petersburg Police and wounded a Federal Marshal just a month ago, when they went to serve a warrant for him & he started shooting at them from his position in the house? Hydra was a registered sex offender and convict, the police went to serve him a warrant. One of the officers was a K-9 unit who had just gotten through with his shift, but swung by to help oversee the event. Hydra’s girlfriend answered the door, told them that he was hiding up in the attic, armed and that he said he’d never go back to jail again. When she said that, the police called in back-up, the officers entered the house, that’s when that scumbag Lacey started firing down from the attic onto them
Last night, from what I heard from the police scanners, from what everyone heard at my station & all stations in our area, was a prowler/burglar being reported – police were sent. Next thing we heard was mass chaos on the scanners b/c of the officer down, taking 4 shots in the chest
Uchamps says:
February 22, 2011 at 8:22 AM
“So when a cop is killed there is usually heavy corruption going on”
What kind of corruption was going on with those 3 officers who were shot, 2 of them killed, with Hydra Lacey. What kind of corruption do you think was going on when the 46 year old officer answered the call last night of a prowler/burglar? The guy shot the cop 4 times in the chest. That’s not an “accident” like it was with Sean Taylor, when he was hit in the femoral artery … that’s 4 in the chest
I’m not naive. I know there are some corrupt police out there, our own main anchor who was a policeman in Miami for a long time and then a PIO for them, told us some stories of things that happened while he was there – and also some personal stories about the Clearwater Police that have happened to him, mainly by a particular female officer who was too stupid to remember that her dash cam was still on and it could pick up the audio of the crap she was saying to him after stopping him for a supposed DUI
But I also don’t lump them all into that category. I’ve had my good & bad instances personally with both State Police and local police – mainly just over speeding tickets – but I’ve always shown them respect for those 5 to 10 mins they have me pulled over, didn’t give them any kind of attitude. That’s just called being smart. I made jokes with one Statie & said that he must’ve picked me out of the 2 other cars that were speeding next to me b/c one had a UiF plate on the front and the other had a USF plate – since I have a Canes sticker on my car, he pulled me over and that he must be either a Croc or a Bull. He kind of laughed, said he was a Bama fan & walked away after handing me a ticket. I got pulled over b/c I was a dumbass, going that fast – and I realized just how dumb I was when it put a dent in my wallet. I’ve been asked if I have any weapons or illegal substances in my car – I didn’t take any offense to that, didn’t try and put any kind of racial spin on it or b/c of what I looked like that day b/c of my attire
More and more people just aren’t giving a crap anymore
Uchamps says:
February 22, 2011 at 9:07 AM
“Do i have to post the fact that St. Petersburg police have killed guys in cold blood for no reason at all for you to see where i’m coming from?”
Ya, actually that would be nice if you could dig that up. I’m not saying that you’re lying, I just can’t remember when that happened
Are you talking about Tyron Lewis? which the events of that incident then caused a bunch of morons in south St. Pete to riot, shoot a cop, beat up a reporter, burn down businesses?
Thanks all.
Cape Coral. Sony is 2014! But this kid is a killer prospect for 2013. FSU thinks they have the lead.
Derrick Henry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qz-UFmTIJRM
Meant Duke in 12 and Sony in 13.
Bg, J is helping out now too! Hopefully this all happens sooner rather than later! I’m impatient!
JSQ.
Patience is a virtue. It will come.
Six – and it’s these kinds of scumbags that walk into a Wendy’s when you are eating with your wife and kids and decides to rob and shoot the place up.
I am a member of the NRA for a good reason and my motto is simply this
“I would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6″
Thanks, bg. I’m trying very hard to possess that virtue!!!! So excited for it to happen!
Guess I don’t know what I mean. He is 2014.
good job bg….off to a job interview! All of my clothes fitting so loose…:)
bg1906 – good job on the article man
I’ll get more footage of Gray this year when I go shoot/cover his games
I have footage of Duke Johnson that my boy at work shot from the State Championship game against Jefferson (I was in Texas at the time) – but it’s not a lot at all, I think it was 5 runs and one reception?
Six.
Cool, I’ll be looking forward to that. My wife is going to run the St. Pete half marathon in November so I should be in town, I’ll try and catch up with ya.
Speaking of those Somali pirates – how about that one of them tried to get into a knife fight with one of the Special Ops (would put a ton of money on the fact it was a SEAL) that went into the yacht?
Guess who won that match
Great job bg1906! I love the recruiting insight. Any idea who might be some local (northern VA prospects) the Canes might be interested in? I’ll try and make it out to a game or two.
raizecane
I’ve heard great things about that show but don’t have showtime or cinemax. Maybe I’ll catch up on Netflix if it’s out yet. Thanks.
DZ8.
Haven’t really heard about any standouts so far in N. VA. But Good Counsel here in Maryland has a few top prospects. They beat Dematha last season who was also loaded. Wes Brown and Steffon Diggs love us as their child hood favorites.
http://i56.tinypic.com/5wyut5.jpg
bg1906 – nice. Is that the one in November? I think the course they take is around Coffepot Bayou, right down on the water next to where the Vinoy Hotel is, the St. Pete Pier and down to where Al Lang Field and the Dali Museum are
That’s the end trail of where they do the Susan Komen Breast Cancer 3 Day for the Cure Walk – 60 miles in 3 days
This is kind of a idea of where that marathon might be, right next to the Vinoy
http://www.marinalife.com/images/company/0_072309093617.jpg
and it goes down past Al Lang Field and next to the Dali Museum

DZ8, you got mail.
pb – no joke at all
Not only just in professions, but just everyday people you see out there in the real world
I was at Ross the other day, looking for some shorts
There was a lady, on her cell phone, loud as hell, pushing her cart slowly down the isle with her belly & her son (looked about 20) was walking right behind her
She’s basically yelling in her phone, talking about the clothes she’s looking at and if the person on the other end of the phone would like her to get it … there’s a guy that was in the same isle, looking at clothes as well, with his back shoulder to her
When she pushes her cart down to where he is, he’s not paying attention to her, the guy is checkin out the pants – she then moves the phone from her mouth, she says to him “Excuse youuu” and he looks at her, moves so she can waddle by, and she goes back yelling into her phone. The guy kinda gives her that “the hell?” look – the lady’s son steps right up in his face and kinda moves his head back and forth, like he’s waiting to fight or whatever. The guy walks away shaking his head. The lady then sees someone I guess she knows in another isle, they start talking, she’s all loud talking about how rude that guy was that didn’t get out of her way and how he looked sour at her – how he was stupid for doing that & how her son would’ve beat his ass, how he shouldn’t be looking at her that way b/c he doesn’t know what she has or her son has
What does that even mean? Was she implying that either her or her son was walking around with a piece in either their purse or pants?
How the hell do people get like that and not wonder why other people look down upon them or even feel bad for them or being so embarrassing to themselves to the real world?
DZ8 – All 13 episodes of Spartacus Season 1 is available on Netflix. I watched all 13 from friday night through Sunday afternoon. The first 4 episodes for this season are also available.
The actor who played Spartacus in the 1st season is not in the second season due to cancer so don’t get too attached to that character.
Good luck on your interview, Canechic!
Spoiler alert raizecane, you’re supposed to say spoiler alert 1st, haha. I’ll put it in my que. (I haven’t evolved to the instant watching thing yet, something to look forward to.)
Six, Ross can be a scary place. I had an experience like that at the one in south Miami during law school trying to find some cheap shoes on the way to an interview after Joey chewed up my nice ones. Those aisles are narrow and ripe for conflict.
I also had a similar experience at the Boca Greenwise Publix a few weeks back. Old tupperware looking bish hit me in my butt (fortunately, I have some built-in padding there so I walked away unharmed) with her cart because apparently I wasn’t moving quickly enough out of her way – the bagger was still putting my groceries in my cart. When I turned around, like “WTF?” she glared at me. Picture Joan Rivers with no make-up in pink tennis attire. I ran out of there. She looked like a villain in some Saturday morning cartoon from the 80s.
Just pointing out that a$$holes are not limited to certain professions or classes. They are everywhere.
Six – I got one even better. I was at a restaurant a few weeks ago and the place was crowded. Naturally you want a drink so I asked my wife and another couple if they wanted a drink and they said sure. I went to the bar where all the seats were taken so I waited until I got the attention of the bartender and when he saw me, I leaned in a little to give my order. He brings my drinks and my tab and as I am signing my check, a guy who is sitting next to a lady where I had place my order gets up and tells me not to lean up on his date and to give her space.
I was shocked because A) I didn’t lean up on anyone and B) he waited to say something to me. Needless to say for what ever reason, I didn’t say one word to the guy. I smiled and signed my check .What was funny, his date covered her face as if she was embarrassed about his actions. And the couple to the right of me even said I did nothing wrong and that the guy was being an ass while he was there. It took everything I had to not say something and I didn’t.
That couple to my right even came up to us after we got seated and told my wife and other couple I was with how well I handled the situation. Trust me, normally I would have jacked him on the head with the bottle of Yingling I ordered but I was so shocked at his actions, I just laughed. Go Figure.
wartown and TJL – much respect for what you did and currently do wartown
TJL, our main anchor was an officer down in Miami as well, his name is Reggie Roundtree. He’s the one that has all the prime contacts with the police here in St.Petersburg – his phone was blowing up last night with info from the police chief, the mayor, other officers out there that he knows … all while we were on the air doing breaking news cut-ins
The only run-ins I’ve had with police are from speeding tickets mainly … the only one I ever really questioned was when I was pulled over for doing 8 mph over the limit in a 35 zone … the others, what can I say, I was going fast, I admit it and I paid for them. I’m not going to blame the officer
I did have a couple of incidents that could be described as “assault & battery”, but, the officers that arrived on the scene kind of pulled the “what happened here, stays here” card – due to the circumstances and character of the person (one was a guy that was beating up his girl, the other was a guy who broke into my apartment & was dumb enough to be wearing one of my shirts that he stole out on the street) … both of which I happily went Andre Johnson vs. Courtland Finnegan on, but there wasn’t a referee to step in to stop it. I actually drove to a local eatery that I knew was popular among police before I “assaulted” the guy who broke into my place. I gave a police officer that was with a group of them who were walking out of the restaurant, a “what if” situation – as in, what if I saw the guy that broke into my place and I want to confront him about it physically, and then call the police and have them come talk to both of us about it – and the police officer said that the only thing I should be worried about is, I need to realize that the other guy could possibly press charges against me .. I told him I was willing to take that chance b/c I have overwhelming evidence it was him .. the officer basically gave me the green light. It happened, my friend called the police, they arrived at the laundromat that I confronted & proceeded to beat down the idiot wearing my shirt. Everything turned out well for me – for the other guy, not so much
But ya, there is more of a blatant disregard for the police now that is scary and there is also distrust for some b/c of incidents that were either personal or in the news that related to corruption, sexual misconduct (including rape, sexual harassment), etc. – but as you know, not every officer should be lumped into that crowd. There are some bad apples in every profession … I’ve dealt with a bunch in mine
Truth.
Thanks homie!
Uh .. please disregard and possibly delete the last post. Message sent to wrong screen
Wow, sorry for the comment!
Bg1906!
Nice write up! Thanks for keeping us updated!
Will love your opinion / comments on Dorial Green-Beckham….did not see it in your watch list. Rumors are he is going to be the No. 1 recruit nationally out of Missouri, legal father out of Coral Gables HS, his yahoo profile indicates a Cane offer?
Bg,
…Maryland has a few good prospects…
The MD/VA/DC area does not have its athletes come to the U.
That Cameroonian OL who was alluded for favors from auburn then went to ‘bama to join his blood brother on that team. He had the U as his drem team, then dropped the U, and so did that last NoVa CB. Historically, that area’s best ballers go to Penn State, UNC, Fl as that last LB from Good Counsel.
just as well leave that crap cake alone.
Bg, unless you gonna drop some films of these players to UM coaches and they can make an “early” impressiom they should
DZ8.
We are every kids dream school until they get the offer. Then they play the game! Ha! I don’t look too much into it anymore.
…they should leave that crap cake alone. : ) n
Bori.
I am aware of Green-Beckham but I didn’t include those kids I didn’t think we had a shot at (because he’s from Missouri though I know he has ties to Coral Gables) and kids that are committed elsewhere (Matt Jones and Avery Johnson for instance)
…that crab state MD
Six multi tasking, haha!
JSQ – Ross I could picture that happening b/c you never know what type of peeps are going to be in there. Publix? Haha. Esp. if it’s some old blue hair. Maybe she was trying to hurry up, get her advanced age Gerber food so she could make it back home to chill with Blanche, Sophia, Rose & Dorothy … damn Golden Girls was a good show
raize – some guys are just like that crap, in fact, too many guys act like that. Idiots. Tells you all you need to know that not only was his girl embarrassed about him, but the peeps around you thought he was a douche as well. Maybe 12 years ago I would’ve said something back to him that would’ve caused a full out MMA fight to happen right there … but now, it’s better to just give him a slight look with a smile on your face, a little shake of the head and walk away. Not worth the crap you’d have to go through afterward from being in a public place like that, that would just add to the charges filed after chopping him in the throat real quick, kicking him straight in the knee and then throwing a hammer fist onto his nose and then right elbow to his eye orbital
DZ8 – you know how it is, haha. There’s a couple of us on here .. and there as well
Speedwrecks.
We don’t do well here, but those 2 are mentioned because most kids here don’t call us their dream school either. Neither of the Koundjo bros said we were their favorite school coming up. Also our previous coaches didn’t have the ties to this area like Golden and crew does. I think we can do better in the area now, but I’d never think we’ll get more than 1 or 2 every few years. Those 2 we have a real shot at if we recruit them because they both will be highly recruited and both love us and want to be a package deal. The GREAT thing for UM though is because they are skill players, it doesn’t matter if we get them or not, we have plenty in Florida and NEVER have to leave the state to get great skill players, so they are just a bonus if we do, but not a real loss if we don’t. The only things we REALLY have to recruit out of state for are OL and QB. Everything else we could technically find Florida. So I agree with Golden that 80%-85% of the class will always be from Florida primarily S. Florida and then that other 15%-20% would be only truly elite players that they see as future NFL’ers.
Isn’t Green-Beckham going to be a 2013 prospect?
Guess not.
http://insider.espn.go.com/college-football/recruiting/player?id=116526&_slug_=dorial-green-beckham&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fcollege-football%2frecruiting%2fplayer%3fid%3d116526%26_slug_%3ddorial-green-beckham
^^^Florida is also producing much better QBs now too, so we don’t have to leave to get great QBs as much as we did either.^^^
Duke Johnson’s running style reminds me of Clinton Portis. Obviously not as fast but just similar running styles.
bg, I think pro-style QB is still an out of state thing most time, as I think really the dual threats are just finally living up to that title, being equal passers and runners.
TE is one position where I think out of state is always worth the looks.
And finally, this year I think has some really good OL in FL. You think a guy like Miller or Theus don’t head to UFag? Both are in schools/areas that are feeders (I really would love Miller) Garcia would be great too and I know a lot of people are high on Isadora (I think Bluestein likes him a lot). I think Kehoe needs to get on these kids ASAP (though I am sure he has)
What’s up all? Sitting here at the Ortho-surgeon’s office. Gotta have shoulder surgery soon. Not one but both. That sucks.
Dang Lyquid.
Too much COD Black Ops huh? J/K

Great points!
LOL @ BG. Nah…messed them up a few years back lifting. They haven’t been right since. As long as they schedule the surgery so that I can do. Rehab before football season starts then I’ll be fine. I don’t even want to think about not coaching this season.
Number changes. Surprised to see Byrd do that.

Autumn in Orlando we have a new station called the HUB. It shows episodes of Family Ties, Who’s the Boss, Laverne & Shirley, Happy Days, I love Lucy……I find this station on in my room quite a bit. I love watching happy fun shows before bed
<<<<<<<<
I LOVE LUCY!!
when i grew up, my father was often out of town . . . then i'd get to eat dinner on a tray with my mom in the tv room and watched . . . you guessed it – i love lucy.
memories.
i watched a few "laverne & shirley" & "happy days" episodes back in the day.
never heard of "family ties" & "who's the boss"
i haven't done tv shows since about 1974, when i went to college and spent years without a tv . . . then eventually came to europe, where i didn't take up weekly shows; just movies
That’s what I thought bg. Not what I want to see from the kid who I want to be our #1 WR. Though that being said, it could also be a thing that sets him free. Cue Calvin with AJ II talk…

I mean you’ve been 47 the number of the most accomplished WR in UM history and he’s vowed to work with in the summer and as a SENIOR you take #2? Wow, just wow! Golden should’ve said…ABSOLUTELY NOT unless 47 is going to be retired now and since Byrd gave it up, I would retire it.
bg, I hear ya. Like I said, not trying to have orange and green glasses on, but only thing I could think that might be positive about something like this is maybe Byrd is saying, now its time to be Laron Byrd, not anyone else, make my own mark.
Also, we are two grown men discussing a kid’s number choice…maybe we should just leave this one here.
i think we can all agree that cops are human.
when i got held up by 2 people with guns while working the 11 p.m. – 7 a.m. shift at magic market or whatever they’re called (in gainesville!), the cops were very helpful and treated me great.
in the last year of my elderly mom driving her own car, she was taking me & my daughter to the airport; fell asleep; rammed the back of an old open truck with a few poor, raggedy-dressed hispanic workers inside.
they were extremely nice to us . . . asked if we were okay, etc.
the cop comes; my mom immediately apologizes and says she simply fell asleep, but the cop turns to one of the hispanic workers, who was not even very close, and says:
“back up, jose”, in a voice that dripped with “don’t mess with me you low-down hispanic; somehow, this is your fault”
so embarrassing, but i knew if i said anything he could make the whole thing more difficult for my mom . . . so i left to knock on doors to call a taxi.
but . . .
i don’t like to see cops shot

I didn’t know I welcomed you to the Canes blogging sites. Did you have the same name?
I used to go to the Miami Herald and was on the Sun Sentinel right before Omar left. On the Herald I would comment and someone recomended Canespace. From there I read awhile and the first time I commented was becuase there was someone who said the none of our running backs had fumbled the previous season, ESPN said so. I asked why did Graig Cooper call Randy Shannon at 3am the night after the Texas A&M game? Captain Optimist welcomed me into the community and hooked me up with someone so that I could buy some Canes dvds. Will always have respect for the Captain even if I don’t agree with what he’s saying our his style in how he say it sometimes.
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
yep – same name.
but no logo(?)
i had been lurking for awhile . . . one day i had a first and couldn't resist.
got myself a t-shirt for my son for my trouble.
i used to peruse the herald blog real quick.
the only person i remember was a dude named "green" who would post something, then write 1 word or 1 sentence.
loved his style.
i also perused sun sentinel after omar 'cause i enjoyed a couple characters on there named mh, Udyn and some funny (& thoughtful) gator guy whose name i forget.
they kept getting pissed at TOS-man for coming onto the blog and getting into mini-fights there.
so eventually i looked at TOS but didn't like it much for awhile.
then at some point i suddenly did start enjoying it and left sun sentinel, which was anyway getting hit up more & more by haters.
then i found EOTH last summer thru a beach report article, back when i was still reading that
. . . realized all the oldies but goldies who disappeared from TOS were camped out here and within a month, this became my blog-exclusive

Calvin
Let me be very clear. There are rape victims with the rapist running free scoping out his next victim. There are so many dead with the gang Banger/killer making a name for himself. There are so many mom & pop stores running in the red/bankrupted with dreams shattered & lives ruined because of the elusive shoplifter now laying for her next shopping spree. There are so many robberies with the robber planning his next move. You would think that “cold case file” is only a TV series.
The great irony above is that it is clearly not infrequent that the perpetrator is known as the culprit not only by the family of the victim but by law enforcement authorities. Yet, the perpetrator walks free because they have not the sufficient evidence to put him away. Tracks covered & elusiveness!
You do not have to be a crime & justice sleuth to realize the very officers that are out there to protect the Calvins from these perpetrators of crimes deal with some of these criminals that are very good at evading justice, and more than a few gets away with it all, whether by never being indicted (Ferguson the wife killer), or walking at the end, a la William Kennedy Smith, Baretta (Do the crime, do the time [not] ), OJ Simpson…
Often in such cases, the perpetrator is never caught unless he is brought on other charges, or repeats the same type of. crimes with one more victim loosing another precious life.

speedwrecks, mac jones, confuscius or whoever the hell you are, where i’m from, we don’t call the police, i’m not looking for police protection, never have, i know what to do to protect myself, from them and others, it’s been a few times a few of them almost came up short had they went the wrong way or to far but they understood where they were at and who was there. The majority of people that call the police thinking they are going to protect them, yeah, they’ll protect certain people for a little while, but after that, you on your own, to many people get killed during and after so called police protection. Just take care of thins yourself, hell, if you got enemies, deal with em yourself, you call the police and than later on they get dealt with, who you think they coming too first.
For me, my view of the police is from the otherside. I remember watching the o.j. trial and mark ferman/furman whatever his name was i kept saying, this mofo cop is lying his azz off, sho nuff, later on, they find the tape with him telling lies and than got em to admit he tried to frame orange juice with that glove.
For those cops who do there job straight up i respect them, alot of rogue cops and guys who are racist carrying that same mentality with there job, so when you talking to me about police, nothing personal, i just look at it like that’s part of it. Anybody abusing there authority in that type of environment makes it bad for all cops, those cops who go about there business that way makes life dangerous for there comrades.
Six, I posted that thing last Friday, and I agree with you as like Billy Bob said, ” I give it a ten, a ten, I still got…”
JSQ, blame it on Graham. No outrage here…its business. He will get picked up
If only Shockey didn’t call Bill Parcells a homo way back when, maybe Miami would sign him. I don’t see Ireland or Sparano stepping up for him.
Again, I vote Ravens.
JSQ. The Ravens just drafted two TEs in last years draft and have their own hobbling veteran (Todd Heap) on the team until the rookies are ready to take over.
You’re so cute when you talk pro football though, it’s cause of the Ravens jerseys isn’t it?
Byrd shyte got that number copped by Golden.

/////////////////////////////////
bryd man did the honorable thing, why wear #47, you can only wear that number if you showing up for all the games, if anything, hank was the only receiver worthy of that number, but at the same time, hank made #85, another number somebody gone have to step up in. hank carried the passing game last year, showed up for every game, against osu, for the 1st time i saw jacory not hot nobody(even the defenders)with the deep ball and over threw everybody, hank had #5 beat all game long, so they rolled up the double team on his side, in normal whipple fashion, he never took advantage of it of course.
Delta blows.
Just sayin.
I still like LaRon Byrd. Don’t know why he changed his number right *before* he started working with Irvin, maybe it was yanked by Golden. We’ll see when we see how it is given out in the future. I don’t think it’s Byrds’ fault that QB1 locked on to other receiver from the break of the huddle. That interview gave me hope that LaRon knows whats up now, he said he’ll buy J12 dinner every night!
For the record I don’t think any numbers should be retired. Think it’s a great way to remember past great players.
You are in Mexico and you ordered SOUP?! Thats like going to a steak house and ordering bread sticks.

Music to my ears, everybody is just not cut out to be a Cane, if he doesn’t feel it, no problem he’ll just FEEL IT!
i keep hearing golden talking bout he want guys out their who gone fight, mess round and my boy jared wheeler might take somebodies spot out there, just feels good knowing we got an o-line coach who’s put people in the nfl but more importantly we got a championship o-line coach who knows what it takes, he doesn’t need to calculate starts of past national champions, that’s a waste of time, what’s the purpose of that, i couldn’t wait for coach stoutland to be gone, he didn’t have a championship mentality. That’s where shannon went wrong, he went out and got a good group of players that had won championships, but he never went out and got coaches who won them.
That held the team back, the coahes he had needed a veteran headcoach to bring them up. I never had faith in this coaching staff being a championship staff.
Now we’re talking about a more in shape team, this will only bode well for a guy like tyler horn, he has talent, just didn’t have the strength to do what he needed to do against certain teams, i like tyler horn at center myself, he did a real good job out there this year, got debo’ed on 1 play in that osu game, other than that he was out their fighting. This year from a mental standpoint, he’ll be that much more ready and i always liked his mental game as well.
I’m messin with that DeAndre Jasper kid. Thinkin of a faster K Thompkins. I hope Goldie gets his hands on him.
Whoever makes it to the starting 5 on this o-line, they’ll be real tuff out there. The main thing is, we got a real deep and talented group of o-linemen now, and moving cory white back to tight-end was a good move if nothing else, for blocking purposes. I wish kevin nelson could be here for these work-outs, he set himself back complaining and trying to get assurances from the coaching staff, the only assurance you have is balling, the silver platter days are over with. back to you have to earn your keep, he couldn’t understand how barrow would be cool with you one minute and than be on you the next minute if you not getting the job done.
tyler horn knows his role and is going to play it, that kid has alot of pride, that play against osu where he let that guy dogged him like that, to me, that was a quincy wilson/brandon merriweather moment for him, after that, the rest is history, tyler made a smooth transition and if he gets better, along with the rest of this o-line, once they become technically sound & stronger, i think even kehoe will be like damyum, this may actually be the best o-line we’ve ever had at one time at UM. I like hearing kehoe talking about how he wants all his former o-lineemn to comeback and intimidate these young guns, in other words, raise em, kehoe knows what that means.
From here on in, guys need to start making young guns earn they keep, esteban said it best, “we need to go back to shaving heads”.
• Texas Tech is interested in hiring UM athletic director Kirby Hocutt, but one Board of Trustee member said Hocutt has left UM officials believing he wants to stay. Hocutt declined to comment. . . . With Rutgers opting against playing UM, Yankee Stadium now hopes to pair Army against UM in 2013.
• After only one session, UM told receiver Tommy Streeter to stop working with ex-Dolphins great Mark Duper because UM’s compliance office is concerned the NCAA might not like it. Duper worked for more than a year with Leonard Hankerson, who credited him (among others) for his development.
UM explained the decision thusly: “The workouts with Hankerson were approved because it was our understanding that Hankerson had a previous relationship with Duper prior to Hankerson enrolling at the University of Miami. We are not aware of any previous relationship with Tommy Streeter, therefore his workouts were not approved.”

Welp, that’s real news and i think it’s fair to coach mcdonald as well, the main thing though is, streeter should’ve been out there with that man early on, but now he’ll have to do it the regular way, golden doesn’t want mcdonald looking bad. duper just needs to go to school if he doesn’t have a degree and than get into coaching because obviously, he knows how to coach receivers.

CORAL GABLES – Terry Richardson got “a little sample” of what his Hurricanes running backs can do long before he became their position coach.
As an assistant coach at Connecticut, Richardson watched film of UM’s games against Pittsburgh and South Florida this past season in preparation for UConn’s games against those teams.
“They all bring different things to the table,” said Richardson, who has met with each of Miami’s RBs individually. “They all have different personalities. But the one thing that’s consistent is they all love football and love to compete.
“They’re all hungry to run the rock. I think the competition is going to be great. That’s one thing I look forward to.”
When spring practice starts March 5, the Hurricanes will have four tailbacks competing for carries – rising redshirt sophomore Lamar Miller, rising junior Mike James, and rising sophomores Storm Johnson and Eduardo Clements.
South Broward High’s Kevin Grooms, who primarily played RB in high school but signed earlier this month as an athlete, will join the quartet in the fall.
A couple of other notes:
— Richardson said he would have liked Johnson to have been redshirted last season.
“My thinking about that is, and I told Storm the same thing, with the amount of work he got last year, with the guys they had, he would have been better off redshirting,” Richardson said.
“If you burn [a redshirt year], he’s probably got to get a little bit more work than nine carries. …If you burn it, you’re burning it for a reason with a guy that young. That’s just my opinion. I’m not knocking [the previous coaching staff]. They probably had their reasons, whatever it may be. That’s just how I see the situation.”
Johnson, who was used to return kickoffs, had nine carries for 119 yards and a touchdown last season. More than half of that came in the regular season finale against USF – five carries, 79 yards and a TD.
Clements, also a kick returner, saw limited action in the backfield as well – eight carries, 32 yards. The duo returned 19 kickoffs combined.
— As of now, Richardson has no plans to move James to fullback to replace departing senior Pat Hill.
James played FB as a freshman because of an injury to Hill, but returned to his natural position in 2010. James finished third on the team in carries (70), yards (398) and rushing TD (3) last season.
He also had 13 catches for 56 yards and one TD.
“When I watched Mike James, I was very impressed with him because he did a lot of different things from the backfield,” Richardson said.
“We’re going to put him in the best possible situation for him and us to be successful…and if with some personnel group or in some formation we can use him [at FB], we will. But right now I see him as a tailback and a guy who can contribute.
“He’s an excellent leader and person, and a hard worker. And I like the way he runs the football. He really hits [the hole].”

RB is too loaded at the moment and will only get worse for Hall. Miller, Storm, and James are a three headed monster for this and potentially next year. Then we have Eduardo who no one has really seen. Duke’s coming in 2012 (but may flip to CB). And Sony in 2013.
thanks ck (re: darion hall)

Add VA to that as well!
I wouldn’t sleep on hall.
Like Este said kid is young.
Plenty of room to contribute in other areas until he is ready.
PLUS we have no idea what this kid brings to the table yet.
Simmer.
GO CANEZ!!!!!
From the rivals article from bg1906
Golden has a different name for the area — he calls it the “Eye of the Storm” — but he wants to make sure Miami lands the top players in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Eye of the Storm? How about Eye of the Hurricane? It makes more sense.
JSQ bring this up to Golden et al the next time you see him!
him/them^^
Also we are now back to having some real depth at certain positions so the need for the freshman savior to come in and save the day is gone.
Now it is time to start developing these kids like they should and giving them time to mature not only physically but mentally as well.
This is how it is supposed to work.
GO CANEZ!!!!!
Golden on recruiting…..
“It goes back to never forgetting where you came from or who you are,” Golden said. “For us, the guys I brought from Temple, we said just because we’re at Miami now we can’t fall into that oyster where we think we’re just going to open up and all the food is going to rush in. We’ve got to be who we were at Temple, and that was guerilla warfare, by any means necessary, by outworking people, by knowing more, having more opportunities to interact with the student-athlete, the guidance counselors, assistant coaches, strength coaches and all the people that touch a student-athlete’s life.
“So we wanted to couple that guerilla warfare mentality with an incredible tradition and a world-class city … we are the No. 47 ranked university in the country, and if we can just continue to harness that we can be very formidable here moving forward.”
GO CANEZ!!!!!

The best way I would describe it is like cooked liverwurst but not nearly the smell of liverwurst. I found it in Cancun, Caracas, and Madrid. Look for a meat place and then an Argentine Platter will have an assortment of meats, of which blood sausage is usually one. How would you describe it BoriCane?

why would Hall transfer if he doesn’t see the field this year as a RS freshman? its a loaded spot. playing time is going to be slim and he knows that.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Good question. I say that he knows he is certainly not the sexy pick to play until all 3 of the trio leaves. Eduardo and Storm have only 1 less year of eligibility. The odds of us bringing in a great RB in the next 2 years that we just HAVE to see play are pretty great. Etc.
Not only all those reasons about depth, but he knows he can probably go somewhere else and start. I thinks guys today transfer when they see playing time is limited. Look at Shawnbrey.
^^^^I’ve never understood some of the last staff’s redshirting practices. Sucks!^^^
— As of now, Richardson has no plans to move James to fullback to replace departing senior Pat Hill.
^^^So glad to hear this. Mike James is NOT a FB^^^

Shawnbrey waited 3 years or so before he transferred. Hall has been here one year. No telling if he’s good enough to start anywhere else or not either at this point. i really liked his footage coming out of high school. he actually was the guy who reminded me of james jackson amongst our current stable of backs.
Whenever someone say they don’t want to bash the previous staff that is EXACTLY what they are doing.
Good stuff.
GO CANEZ!!!!!
I think you’d agree that Shawnbrey would have been better off transferring earlier. He, like Hall, is caught in a depth chart situation. Shawnbrey had Coop, Baby J, and Chambers ahead of him. Hall has Miller, Storm, James, and Eduardo.

Hurtt up for DL Job at Auburn
Hurtt up for Auburn Job
——————————————————————————–
Tim Cross is among leading candidates to be Auburn DL coach/Courtesy of University of Minnesota
Tim Cross, who coached with Auburn defensive coordinator Ted Roof at Minnesota, and Louisville’s Clintt Hurtt have emerged as leading candidates to replace Tracy Rocker as Auburn’s defensive line coach.
Sources close to Auburn coach Gene Chizik’s search told AuburnUndercover.com that Hurtt is on campus to interview today. Cross is expected to be invited for an interview within a matter of days.
Hurtt serves as defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator at Louisville. He spent three seasons in the same role at Miami before following Charlie Strong to Louisville. A former Miami player, he helped sign three top 10 classes at Miami. The 2008 class was ranked No. 1 nationally by ESPN.
A native of Rochester, N.Y., Hurtt spent one season at Florida International before returning to his alma mater.
Cross spent the past four seasons as defensive line coach at Minnesota and the past three as associate head coach. He left after head coach Tim Brewster was fired.
^^^Safe to say if Hurtt gets it there won’t be anymore Nick Fairley’s. HA!^^^
bg
I’m not saying the guy should transfer, just that it is more likely than not if he doesn’t see the field this year.
And just wait, Hurtt will be a head coach one day and we all will be scratching our heads and laughing at the same time.
The only reason Clit is getting any run is because people think he can recruit.
Everyone wants an in to Sofla.
He will be exposed now that the death star is back up and fully operational.

MIKE MAYOCK’S TOP 5 LBs 2011 DRAFT
——————————————————————————–
Mike’s Top 5 Inside Linebackers going into the 2011 NFL Combine…
1. Martez Wilson
6-4
240
Illinois
Note: Wilson is a pretty impressive physical specimen with good measurables. Is susceptible to good hall handling and doesn’t show good awareness dropping into coverage.
2. Colin McCarthy
6-2
240
Miami (FL)
Note: McCarthy has a chance to win a job as a starting middle or strong side linebacker. Has great size. Exhibits very good instincts diagnosing against the run and when asked to play in zone coverage.
3. Quan Sturdivant
6-2
230
North Carolina
Note: Sturdivant’s draft stock dipped after missing five games this past season with a hamstring injury, but he is athletic enough to eventually become a starter at the next level. He is a smart football player that flows to the ball and has a good closing burst.
4. Casey Matthews
6-1
232
Oregon
Note: The latest in a family of guys who play the game the right way. While he lacks some size and speed, he is a smart, relentless, highly-productive player who will provide solid depth and special teams value while developing into a starter.
5. Kelvin Sheppard
6-3
240
LSU
Note: Sheppard has the skill-set necessary to become a solid starter. Does a good job pursuing and tackling in open space and on the perimeter and can play in zone coverage. Can be neutralized if blockers get good position and their hands on him.

Ryan Hill Interview…
HSN: What do you think went wrong with the team this past season?
Ryan Hill: It was a combination of a lot of things. I can’t really explain, players and coaches just weren’t seeing eye to eye anymore. There was definetly a conflict of interest on the team.
HSN: You made some comments after the bowl game that some of the players on the team needed to “stop acting like boys, and grow up and act their age.” What did you mean by this statement?
Ryan Hill: Let me put it this way. There were some guys on the team that weren’t acting their age. Some of the guys on the team needed to grow up and become men. I know guys that are 21-22 years old that have families and jobs and they support them by themselves. I’ll tell you a little story to explain to you what I mean. We were at the bowl game in El Paso and were losing 21 to 0. There were players on the sidelines throwing snowballs at each other. Thats what I’m talking about when I say that the team had maturity issues.
HSN: While all of this was going on with the snowballs were there any seniors that went over to those players who were goofing off to confront them?
Ryan Hill: At the time this was happening I was on the field playing defense. I heard later on about what happened on the sideline. The seniors and coaches can only do so much. There comes a point where everyone has to take responsibility for their own actions and it just wasn’t happening.
Damn, didn’t realize MLB prospects for the NFL were so thin this year. I mean seriously, McCarthy is average, not great, good/servicable, and that makes him the second best MLB prospect according to one of the best? More power to McCarthy

Bg, that’s a big IF and I tend to disagree. I think he will be an average pro at best. Kid has heart, I just think he looked good because of the other weaker LB talent around him (sans Spence who’s only obstacle is size). Wish him the best, I just don’t expect it.

DAMN IM IN THE MOOD FOR SOME PANCAKES
The scouting reports on McCarthy won’t surprise any of us. Poor in coverage, gets lost in space. He has enough skill to survive and start in the NFL. Don’t be surprised when the “coaching effect” takes over and he’s a rookie starter next year for some team.
Received a medical redshirt for a serious shoulder injury in 2008. Can be taken advantage of in open space. Will play wild, over run plays and wiff at times. Was taken off the field at Miami in many obvious passing downs. Isn’t an overly fluid athlete and struggles in man coverage.

Just say no to blood sausage cupcakes!
Wow this blood sausage thing has taken a life of ots own!!! Must be the “slow season”!! LOL
JSQ, agree, as much as I like them, not really cupcake material!!
Got a great interview for EOTH Friday morning.
It won’t disappoint.
Only if you are thinking of cupcakes like a sweet, twinkie-like thing. Blood sausage sorrounded by some nice, semi-sweet yellow corn bread?! It’s a winner!!
Bori- How would you describe the taste of blood sausage?
DZ8,
It is just an acquired taste I guess, I grew up eating them since childhood so no big deal for me. There are many variations, with rice, without rice, hot, mild.. My preference is with very small amount of rice, more blood, natural casing and peppery!
I would describe it like you said, is like a cooked liverwurst but I feel is more spongy almost pate like. Pâté de Foie Gras in its consistency, but the taste is more peppery!!
I could make a blood sausage muffin.
Love pate. Best I’ve ever had was at the little bistro in front of the Paris hotel in Vegas. Love that place!!!
Need to go to France and do the real thing, though. Enough of the Vegas imitation!
JSQ,

….for bringing the []_[] Al Golden?
Hell yeah!
And Texas Tech wants a long term replacement for Mike Leach AND his winning ways?
Who pulled that one Head Coach now universally considered as the most promising hire of 2011?
Who would one consider as having been recently on the pulse of who are the next best coaches and where they at?
Who never considered hiring the enemy of the TT?
Is it all about the Benjamins?
Or is it about also Kirby Hocutt getting what he is worth?…along with an entity genuinely wanting what Kirby brings to her table?
I WOULD NEVER LEAVE MIAMI FOR T.T BUT THATS JUST ME
Is it me or anybody else find a little bit premature to say Hocutt is god given gift AD? Granted, he did a good job with the Golden hire (W-L record to be seen, me been very optimistic). Which other hiring has he done at UM? I like him so far, but I believe he is still has to prove himself.
I maybe getting old and do not understand this “instant gratification because I MAY have a bright future” generation.
Same with Hurtt, is Auburn about to reward Hurtt because he MIGHT have a good recruiting class at Louisville? A class that has not produced anything yet?
What BoriCane said.
I can’t say I’d be shocked if he left as this is the nature of the business. But it would leave me scratching my head a bit as to why would leave for TT.
Hope this is just a false alarm.
Bori.
In terms of Hurtt he’s been the best recruiter where ever he has been. Remember the class of 2008? Clint Hurtt and Michael Barrow. We kept half the duo. Ha!
If Hocutt wants to leave Miami for Texas Tech he is a FOOL. I truly believe the sky is the limit when it comes to Miami athletics (there really is no logical reason why we can’t be good at mens basketball) and TT, well its TT. They’ll never beat UT’s aura, prestige, academics, fan base, fun (I personally experienced), etc. I don’t care if they’re offering $1,000,000 more, he will be nothing more than a forgotten AD at one of the “other” schools in Texas.
bg, I know what the rumor mill is saying, but I really hope this is not the case. This can only be about $$$, as I am missing the connection otherwise. Really, this would be a lateral move at best
I can understand auburn wanting coach hurtt, they know he can’t coach, but they figure, let him bring in the talent, they’ll coach the players, it’s kind of a smart strategic move, won’t be like hurtt will be the only d-line coach at auburn, and auburn has always recruited Florida decent, add hurt to that mix, that’ll give them a little more ammunition over Bama who they really at war with, to national championship teams in the same state in back to back years, i said a while back, alot of people will say after Florida, the best football states are texas and california, i said to me, it’s always been Bama after us, “Lo and Behold” 2 championships later, the proof is right there.
As for hocutt, if he leaves and goes to another school, who cares, lol.
Calvin, I know you dont give a shiz, but things like fund raising, alumni relations, social media, etc. have all improved under Hocutt. He gets the credit for this and that’s why you dont want him to leave because its effects your $$$
Agreed, Shwarma. Things are still not great over there, but they are getting much better.
Although we are all focused on the Golden hire, I think the most proven (thus far) hire Hocutt has made is Chris Freet. Did you notice how our website changed from crap to professional overnight? That’s Freet. All of the other differences in media relations too – that’s his job. I remember reading the job posting and thinking “wow, we really need someone to do all this.” Freet is really off to a great start.
Still, I don’t think Hocutt is God’s gift and that if he leaves we should be crying ourselves to sleep at night. I really like and respect Kirby. He is personable and I think he really knows what he’s doing. But, like anyone else, if you don’t want to be here then I don’t want you here.
Question re: Hurtt for you all:
Wasn’t he the reason for our NCAA violations with recruiting? With the text messages.
Kind of makes you chuckle that he’s going to Auburn, where the hammer will soon drop USC-style.

Bori.
In terms of Hurtt he’s been the best recruiter where ever he has been. Remember the class of 2008? Clint Hurtt and Michael Barrow. We kept half the duo. Ha!
————————————————————————-
I’ll concede to your better knowledge. If I hear you, he is probably a good recruiter, the act of bringing kids in. Once they are here, that’s another story, our 2008 class greatness, still to be seen.
JSQ.
I think the culprit with the text messages was Six’s boy Paul Gonnella. Never confirmed that but that was the rumor.
Hocutt has done and awesome job. He waited the appropriate amount of time then replaced a flailing Shannon with a total steal in Golden. He fired the womens bb coach and look what Meyer has done in just a couple of seasons. A Rod’s big donations came under his watch and fund raising is at an all time high for our athletic programs.
He has renewed the rivalry with Notre Dame, Nebraska and OSU and is constantly taking shots at UF for not having the stones to play us.
He would be a gigantic loss for us.
I agree with pb.
I amend my prior statement –
I think the most proven (thus far) hire Hocutt has made that affects ‘Canes football is Chris Freet.
Meyer is obviously the most proven hire overall.
Really, I think this is just talk. I don’t see Kirby leaving.
If he does, it means I am completely wrong in what I think of him, so I’m okay with him going.
Time will tell.
I hope this happens….
Drew Rosenhaus, Shockey’ s Miami-based agent, went on The Joe Rose Show on WQAM this morning and fanned the flames for Dolfans a little bit more in the wake of Shockey’s recent release from the New Orleans Saints.
“I can’t speak for the Dolphins but I will tell you Jeremy does have an interest in Miami,” Rosenhaus said on the air. “Jeremy lives in Miami, has always been a big fan of South Florida, obviously, going back to his great days at the University of Miami. … From our standpoint we are very interested in the Dolphins but I cannot comment on whether that feeling is mutual at this time.”
Pretty sure that tells you the Dolphins haven’t reached out to Shockey yet, and I’m not sure how much the big tight end (who turns 31 in August) has left or whether he’s their cup of tea. Plus, you have to factor in the extension incumbent tight end Anthony Fasano signed during the 2010 season and what it would cost to secure Shockey’s services going forward.
But with another nine days, including today, to sign players recently released before the lockout hits, you’d better believe the Dolphins will do their due diligence on a field-stretching tight end who in some ways is exactly the sort of weapon they’ve been missing the past two years.
There’s also the recent promotion of Dan Campbell to consider. The Dolphins’ tight ends coach played with Shockey on the New York Giants in 2002, Shockey’s rookie season in the NFL, and again in 2009 with the Super Bowl-champion Saints.
Rosenhaus mentioned their relationship as a plus in the Dolphins’ favor as well.
If that happened, I would purchase a Dolphins jersey for the time since I purchased a Dan Marino jersey in HS.
That would be awesome.
So I heard some interesting things on the radio this morning and thought of you all . . . Not about football, but hey, it’s not like we stick to sports around here 24/7 . . .
Some interesting survey results:
- Given the choice, a majority of women would choose to be able to eat whatever they want and still have a fabulous body vs. sex (in any form) for a year.
- Men find the following professions the sexiest for women: teacher, librarian, cop
- Women find the following professions the sexiest for men: fireman
Discuss. You know you want to.
Kirby hires Meier as Lady Canes HC, Golden for football and made a very good hire for the Lady Canes soccer coach, has spearheaded the development of the new facilities, gets a five million dollar gift given for that construction and has done well at the U. He was hired in 2008 February 8th I believe so he has been here only three years. JMO but that is a job well done!
Couple of things. If he did interview for the job, then it’s not just posturing. He wants the position.
Even though I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else, South Florida isn’t for everyone. We can’t underestimate how much that plays a factor in decisions like this one.
And on a side note, this has to be my favorite sports story in a long, long time. It’s not the futility of the team, but the pride they have in representing their school, which they are all obviously smart enough to know has no real chance of success.
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/nationworld/wire/sns-ap-bkc-caltechs-streak,0,1899930.story
I hope it does Mike, I’d be in line with you, buying a Shockey jersey..
Give me a lady cop teaching self defense at the local public library all day long.
I guess that would be asking a bit much.
I dont know PB…I’d take the librarian anyday..lol
pb wants it all!
I don’t get the fireman thing, personally. Some of them are cute but meh, doesn’t do it for me.
Or the other thing. Who gives a F if you have a perfect body if there is nothing to do with it?!
They were also saying on the radio that guys would never choose a perfect body over sex – that they don’t care if they are “big boned” as long as they get to use their big b . . .
nevermind.
Drew Rosenhaus for AD!! lol
Well, Seeing as my wife is a school teacher. I’m going to have to say I agree. At least i must have at one point in my life.
The more I think about it, the more I think this is a play for money by Kirby. Major $$$ is coming in, and he wants to cash in now. We all realize that if UM starts really winning again in football (I am talking BCS bowls not the ACCCG), some big time schools might then come calling.
What Shwarma said.
FYI – Just found this on Rivals in article today. Not sure how I think this applies to our situation yet (one thought is this AD is pretty well entrenched since he has the ability to give this money since they are apparently short on it, which would make it seem like more $$$ for Kirby a long shot; and another is the AD is going to get canned and they want a guy who can fundraise which Kirby can do).
1. Money changes everything. The Texas Tech faculty is rankled over Tommy Tuberville’s $500,000-per-year raise, which comes in the wake of $3 million in faculty salary increases being nixed and talk of lawmakers cutting tens of millions of dollars in university funding. “If that was me, I would have turned it down. I would have been embarrassed,” Julian Spallholz, a human sciences professor and Tech faculty senator, told the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal. That’s easy for him to say. Tuberville, who will make $2 million per season, has the most high-profile job on campus. The only prism through which most of the world will look and judge Texas Tech is through Tuberville’s football team — not the human sciences department. In addition, the general welfare of the entire athletic department rests largely on the success of the football team that Tuberville is entrusted to run. If the football team flops, the athletic department will suffer. Lastly, while the timing of Tuberville’s raise may be dubious, the increase was deserved because he was hired at “less than market value,” school president Guy Bailey said. It isn’t Tuberville’s fault that the professors didn’t grow up to be head football coaches. It’s time to put hard feelings aside, buy a season ticket and support arguably the most important employee on campus.
I get the teacher thing, Delray. If I could afford it, that would probably be my profession. For now, I’ll have to settle with teaching spinning on the side!
I just don’t see it, Shwarma.
I think Kirby is smarter than that. Even if the TT job is more money now, going somewhere like that could end – at worst, or stagnate – at best, his career. Strategy-wise, I think it is best to stick where he is. If he gets Miami back to winning NCs, he will have his pick of whereever he wants to go and will be able to name his price. If he is successful at TT, I think it will be the old tree falling in an empty forest metaphor.
Claims he “wants out”?

Also Chris Level talking about Kirby.
http://www.wqam.com/index.php?page=347
Ok, I lied…..
Marvin Bracy:
As a youngster Marvin Bracy followed Miami. He attended the Hurricanes’ Junior Day last weekend. “I love their tradition,” Bracy said. “My dad was a big Miami fan and I used to watch them too. Coral Gables is a nice place. We went to a basketball game and that was a lot of fun. That was my first college basketball game…it was great. Everyone there seems pretty cool and friendly. I loved it…”
Trenton Taylor:
Defensive end Trenton Taylor (Lakeland, Fla./Lake Gibson) decided to hit both ends of the state over the holiday weekend before deciding that Miami was his ideal destination.
The 6-foot-3, 235-pounder traveled to Florida on Friday with his mother and then to FSU’s junior day on Saturday. The trip finished with Miami on Sunday and soon after Taylor decided to commit to the Hurricanes.
“When Trent first came here it seemed like Miami was the place he wanted to go,” said Lake Gibson head coach Keith DeMyer. “He wanted to be there and he wanted to be the first player from this program to ever go there. Still it was a surprise to me that he did it this weekend, I didn’t see that one coming.”
Chris Level is a reporter in Lubbock. He sound pretty confident Kirby will be their AD. Perhaps Pete Garcia comes back??? Perhaps we go after GTech’s AD who is a UM alum???
It’ll get interesting.
JSQ I see your point. But look at it like this:
Say Kirby wants to go back to the Big 12 (soon to be 10) and specifically Oklahoma where he previously worked (forget KSU as then this move is not necessary). While succeeding in Miami is obviously a huge plus, what if he can succeed within Oklahoma’s conference and they get to witness it first hand? Then OU might want to take him to eliminate a thorn from their side should an opening become available (which would be somewhat surprising since their current AD is only 54).
To me that could be the motivation for Hocutt if he sees it that way (which can also be utilized as an bargaining chip since if I was able to connect dots like this after giving it a quick thought, what says someone else on the BOT doesn’t have the same thought).
It’s either a money play or I think that is why he does this IMO.
Coincidentally, that OU AD I mentioned was born in Fort Lauderdale.
peace out Kirby.
and have Morcillas been the conversation the past day or two?
Hopefully the new AD will understand that we CANNOT continue to have a murderous schedule week in and week out. Lets sign up to have more home games against C-USA teams!
I hear you, Shwarma.
It also goes back to pb’s point: South Florida isn’t for everyone.
CK,
(1) I think this year’s schedule is the easiest we’ve had in years;
(2) Dee set up the recent opponents; not Kirby.

Dear whomever,
Please schedule Louisville or Kentucky or both so I can watch my beloved Canes play more, I am obviously the most important fan and deserve this. Thanks in Advance.
Wes aka. CaneInKy
Wrote my last comment before listening to that interview, but I will say this, both Kuperstein and that reporter from Lubbock said a lot of things that made sense.
Unless we change his mind (ie $$$) Hocutt will fly the coop.
Bg, both those candidates make a lot of sense for their ties to the university. Interesting to see what happens next. From a fans perspective, I hope Freet stays should Hocutt go
Dont believe this with all the other reports but:
Bailey: Hocutt reports ‘premature’
Texas Tech’s president, Guy Bailey, said this morning reports that the university offered an athletic director job to Miami Hurricanes AD Kirby Hocutt are “premature,” though he didn’t deny such an offer is possible.
He said more information may become available today or Friday as the university’s governing board continues its two-day meeting at Tech’s sister school, Angelo State University, in San Angelo.
JSQ,
You might now the answer to this question, I am just intrigued who decides what TV spot to run on Canes national TV broadcasts? Is it Chris Freet?
That Shalala “Its all about the U” tv spot has been running since the last depression!
No idea, BoriCane, but I agree.
I’ll say this..The person who is most afraid of a new AD is Coach Haith. He would be first to go in my mind.

Is Bakas saying Hocutt is leaving because @SaveUMFootball just did
My dream out of conference schedule is ND, USF (so I can see games without driving +4 hours), and cupcakes galore.
From Heather Dinich-Espn.com..
* Ohio State (12-1)
* Kansas State (7-6)
* Bethune-Cookman (10-2)
* At South Florida (8-5)
Cross-divisional schedule:
* At Maryland
* At Florida State
* Boston College
Gut-check game: Nov. 12 at Florida State. Miami hosted the party last year and forgot to show up. The Canes have something to prove in this one, and need to bring their attitudes to Tallahassee. Regardless of what’s at stake in the conference race at this point, after how poorly Miami played last year, this one should be about pride.
Trap game: Nov. 5 vs. Duke. Virginia and South Florida have already done it. Now it’s Duke’s turn. Miami will have to be careful not to underestimate David Cutcliffe’s team and look ahead to the rivalry game at Florida State the following week.
Snoozer: Bethune-Cookman. The Wildcats dominated the MEAC, but shouldn’t be as fortunate against the Canes.
Good luck with that: Eleven straight weeks without a break. Miami opens against Maryland on Labor Day and then has a bye week on Sept. 10. The depth and health of the roster will be tested. It’s no wonder Al Golden has put an emphasis on getting stronger this offseason.
Upset watch: Sept. 17 vs. Ohio State. The Buckeyes will be without quarterback Terrelle Pryor and four other starters who are suspended for the first five games of the season for accepting improper benefits. It’s the perfect time for Miami to redeem itself from last year’s loss.
Analysis: Considering it’s the first season under Golden and a lot of changes will be made, it’s reasonable to expect a few stumbles along the way, but the schedule is conducive to an eight-win season. Miami needs to win at least three of its nonconference games, and then avoid letdowns against Virginia, Duke and South Florida. The Canes must also protect their home turf against Boston College and Georgia Tech.
Dear God, Six . . .
Kinda reminds me of this special on meth addicts I watched for a few minutes last night when I was flipping channels.
Miami punter says he’ll kick to Hester … with a (fair) catch
Posted: 2/24/2011 12:16:00 PM
One of the top punters in the draft, Matt Bosher of the University of Miami chuckled when asked whether he would kick the ball to former Hurricanes star Devin Hester in the NFL.
“I’m confident in my skill,” Bosher said. “So I’d kick to him. But I’d try to make it a super, super hang-time ball so he’d have to fair-catch it or I’d try to pin him on the sideline because he is dangerous.”
Hester owns the NFL record with 14 kick return touchdowns. He set the mark Dec. 20 when he returned a punt 64 yards for a score in a division-clinching win over the Vikings in Minnesota. Hester was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2010 for the third time in five seasons.
“He’s amazing,” Bosher said. “He changes the entire game. It’s not necessarily just if he gets the ball. Sometimes punters take a lot of yardage off their punts because they’re punting it out of bounds and trying to keep it away from him because he’s such a game-changer.”
CK, I can’t do anything about our opponents, but whomever we play, there will be cupcakes and/or other assorted baked goods.
Hurtt stayin it would seem

I hate event planning with people who have ZERO reading comprehension ability. I mean, what is wrong with simply stopping to READ an e-mail before responding to it. Or maybe if you are coordinating a class on how to decorate cupcakes, you should listen to the cupcake maker, and not rely on your own assumptions about how cupcakes are made and decorated because, despite that time you watched Cupcake Wars, you don’t actually know what the F you are talking about and your ego combined with your sub-par reading comprehension is going to ruin the event for all of these little girls!
[JSQ lets loose a string of expletives and once again contemplates leaving Junior League]
By the way, we have about 3 and 1/2 hours before Canez1 gets back in the country, so I suggest all you Randy Rangers get it all out before he gets back!
JSQ.
You think our schedule is easy? I for sure don’t especially with the way the games are laid out.
Maryland
Ohio State
Kansas State
All in a row
Then
VTech
UNC
GTech
All in a row
Then
FSU
USF
BC
All in a row
That’s 3 three game stretches that are all NO GIMMIES.
schedule ain’t that tough. not easy tho.

Bg,
I didn’t say easy. I said it was the easiest we have had in years. There is a difference.
I think the schedule is easy. Maybe not “easy” but I was relieved and excited when I saw it.
i think its a fun schedule. ohio state. a resurgent kansas state. usf – rematch special. fsu is fsu. maryland – last couple times against them have been exciting games. and the rest of the ACC schedule with one cupcake in BCC.
I’m likely in the minority but…
Give me a tough game that ends in a loss against OSU instead of a boring win at Bethune Cookman.
pb I’ll take 12 blowouts in a row over bethune or whomever, followed by a blowout win for NC EVERY YEAR. lol
What PB just said…
no win is boring to me. no Cane game for that matter.
I used to be a pb.
I think walking out of the horseshoe last year with a fever dodging beer bottles being thrown at me changed my tune a bit.
I just want to win. I want to be able to have a reason to leave the comfort of my tailgate. I want to have a reason to not spend hundreds of dollars at the Smirnoff bar to help everyone around me have a good time despite the product on the field.
Ideally, once this team gets their act together, this will not be an issue because we if that happens, we can play the quality opponents and win.

my college park spot is Ratsies.
got a Sushi spot now in college park that adds so much rice to their sushi its almost uneatable. have to ask them to cut back on the rice. cheap prices tho.
and i tweeted that man Wes Bunting asking him what he thought of Ryan Hill and he didn’t know who I was talking about. Since then his rankings of the different people at the different positions has come out and now Ryan Hill is on there. I guess that’s a positive for him. Go from unknown to making the cut.
Esteban.
Don’t forget Hurricane Alley returns for Spring Ball!
The place was something crab shack. 20 min south of Baltimore. Looked tasty! I just kept thinking: this place is bg’s worst nightmare!
Ick, Esteban! That ruins it!
I was thinking about getting sushi for dinner but I have to stop at Publix for cupcake supplies and I don’t want it to sit in my car while I’m in there. There are no decent places near me that have convenient parking. Would have to stop at one of the places by my office. Maybe tomorrow.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Exactly. Playing games against second rate teams is how you get to 10 wins in the Big Ten, why shouldn’t we do it in the ACC. At least we can make it to a BCS games every so often.
Best place I ever ate in Baltimore is a micro brewery called Sisson’s. Just over Hamburg street bridge.
JSQ, Ratsies is a pizza joint on Route 1 in College Park. Right where all the bars and eateries are off campus for them. don’t look up reviews on it or you won’t ever give it a try. i can’t vouch for everything, but the pizza is on point and the calzones. wings are hit and miss. 3 out of 4 times they were great, that 4th time they were hard to eat.
Gotcha, Esteban. I’ve only eaten around there once and it was lunchtime on election day in 2002 – the day Ehrlich won. They gave me the University of Maryland for afternoon GOTV. The place I went (I don’t remember the name, some sandwich place) was terrible. I’m down for pizza, though. That’s pretty hard to mess up. I’m really picky about wings, though. I only like them grilled. I’ll eat the fried ones if that is what everyone else wants but sometimes they come out gummy. Not a fan. I’d rather just make my wing dip. That never goes awry.
I just had an idea that could (okay, probably not) change the outcome of the Maryland game . . .
How do y’all feel about BBQ chicken pizza? Aside from the BBQ chicken and cheese, it has carmelized onions and bacon. It’s good.
More importantly, it was served at the 2009 FSWho and Chokelahoma wins, so obviously it has powers.
Decisions, decisions . . .
Any update on Kirby?
Bg, Esteban, when does Hurricane Alley start back up?
Hurricane Alley Starts the first Sunday Spring Ball does. (March 6th, 6 PM)

That place was on Food Network, Esteban!
JSQ, with good reason. I can’t lie. It’s a place i feel like going to again soon.

LOL, what’s funny to me, they on the internet trying to figure out why danny ainge made those trades that he did sending perkins and nate robinson to the thunder, lol, ainge knows what he’s doing, he’s always been a weasel when he played and he’s been that same weasel as a GM. When ainge use to commentate, all he did was keep bashing paul pierce, as soon as he became the celtics GM, he couldn’t stop talking about how great paul pierce was. So now with this move of sending kendrick perkins to the thunder, all ainge is doing is being the weasel artist he’s always been, he basically trying to strengthen the thunder in hopes that they knock out/off the lakers so any other team that comes out of the west, won’t be that hard.
He knows the celtics would rather play san antonio than the lakers, but he also knows, the thunder were just a big man away from becoming a top contender in the west as well, it’s going to be real interesting.
Also, he didn’t want perkins staying in the east, particularly joining the Heat. So he shipped em way out west. It would’ve been funny to see pat riley trade lebron for deron williams and somebody else.
I know this much, new york with now billups, melo & amare, those 3 pieces fit way better than wade, bosh and lebron.
Randy, Happy Birthday!

Some will speculate that private tensions between Hocutt and Miami President Donna Shalala are behind this move. Shalala was a noted Shannon supporter, and she couldn’t have liked the way her university looked during the botched courtship of Gruden.

Why is dvd talking bout his goal is to get 10 reps on the bench press @225, i can’t understand how you go thru 4 years of college and can’t get 225, hell i could bench 225 1 or 2 times in the 7th/8th grade! dvd will be able to think sam shields for getting drafted this year though.
I don’t understand why that would be his goal or even reported as a cornerback. It’s pretty sad when you’ve gone to school, supposedly WITH a weight program, and can’t get double digits in the bench but at his position, who cares?
DVD is just trying to beat Bruce Johnson’s mark in the bench press.
7 is the number to get DVD!!! U can do it!
Via Tyrone Cornelius twitter (@datboi_rone) – @Bougatti_Will – And I don’t play LB no more bruh they dropped me bCk lol
?? To safety? Weren’t we just talking about this possibility?
DVD came in at 148 lbs and left at 151.
Sad….
GO CANEZ!!!!!
yeah DZ. and Tyrone ran 4.41 last spring so he’s now the fastest safety. Have to see how he does playing that far away from the line tho.
again this coaching staff is seeing eye to eye with me (and a lot of others on this one). figured either he or williams would move to safety – i thought williams would since saw his coverage skills, but coaches probably figure Williams got a bigger frame to add weight to at LB. Can just get Tyrone stronger and keep his speed where it is and he’s all set. Focus on his coverage skills while having great size/speed.
He’s got long arms… the bench is extra hard on guys with long arms.
Canez1, man you are losing it. DVD is a SOLID 160!
I had heard talk that didn’t sound like they were worried about getting weight on Travis. Can we move RayRay to LB now?
LOL sorry guys!!
I weighed that in 8th grade.
Solid!
Imagine that scarecrow showing up in an NFL locker room. Who let the chic in here!!
No way Cornelius ran a 4.4.
Where did that come from.
I think if this move is made it’s a disaster waiting to happen.
Can’t go from LB all your life to DB.
JMO
This kid is in trouble if he doesn’t catch on at LB.
GO CANEZ!!!!!
Canez1, i don’t know who posted the link to the weight room top performers from last spring, but at #2 of the list for LBs in the 40 was Tyrone Cornelius 4.47. i got the 4.4 speed wrong. 4.41 was Ramon Buchanon.

Canez1, i don’t think its a point of him catching on at LB. More about the new coaches wanting that size at LB. We are going from tall CB preference to hefty LB preference. Golden said he’s not interested in 195-200 lb LBs and having to beef them up. Wants ready made LBs. Cornelius was probably just over 200 since he came in at 195.
LOL…dang y’all going hard on damarcus..LOL…scarecrow…solid 160…being bigger and strong than him in the 8th grade…whew
and instead of SOLID….a DIESEL 160!! JJ from Good Times got nothing on DVD.
Those times are always a little quick. Every campus in America. Patrick Willis, stud LB for the 49ers, ran a 4.33 at his pro day at Ole Miss. Just add one to two tenths of a second to get an accurate, or at least closer, NFL Combine 40 time.
I’ve got no problem moving a linebacker to safety. Many high schools will have them playing in spots to get them as much action as possible, closer to the L.O.S., in the linebacker spot. He probably should’ve been moved over last year and at least they are doing it at the begining of his Coral Gables tour as opposed to the end of it.
new blog up
Calvin your right.. I think melo, billups, and amare are a better fit then the heats big 3 although, individually, the heat have 2 of the top 3 or 5 best players in the league
