Stand With The []_[] This Saturday At Canesfest

During the last week since Shapirogate hit Miami, I have learned a lot about people.  I have learned that some so-called journalists will print absolutely anything, without regard to its truth.  I have learned that most members of the media do not have an independent bone in their bodies, and rather than going against the grain, they would rather jump on the feeding frenzy that has enveloped the University of Miami.  I have also learned that there are some Miami fans who should have their fan card taken, for no true ‘Canes fan gives up that easy.

On the bright side, I have learned that there are REAL journalists out there who seek to report facts and the truth, and not just sensationalism.  I have learned that the Miami Hurricanes have some of the most loyal alumni, former players, and fans in all of college football.  Most of all, I have realized:  WE STILL GOT IT.  As my mom said whenever fugly girls spread rumors about me in school, “if they are spending that much time thinking about you, you must be doing something right.”  Well, ‘Canes fans, our football team hasn’t even won a respectable bowl game since 2004 (remember that year, when we just kept beating up on the inferior schools in the state of Florida?! I have goosebumps!) and America still loves to hate the University of Miami.   I’m not sure if it is the weather, our legacy, or the superior writing on our alumni’s fan blogs (brushes shoulder off), but we still got it.  We may be down, but we are not out.

Now it’s time to show our team what kind of fans they have.  The kind of fans they want to win for.  The kind of fans that deserve victory.  The kind of fans that sleep in a ‘Canes t-shirt every night along side their puppy Sebastian who dons a ‘Canes collar.  The kind of fan whose co-workers gasp when they enter her office, because it resembles the UM Sports Hall of Fame.  The kind of fans that will have 50 people at their tailgate in College Park to kick off the Golden Era.  The kind of fans that will be at Canesfest this Saturday, proudly wearing their orange, green, and white (and perhaps some of these awesome t-shirts from allCanes!) and letting the world know that IT’S STILL GREAT TO – BE – A MI-AMI HU-RRICANE!

Here are the details:

Bank United Center, Coral Gables

Saturday, August 27, 2011, 3-6pm

Inflatable games * Interactive games with Student-Athletes * Q&A with our coaches * Cheerleaders * Sunsations * Sebastian the Ibis * UM Merchandise * Private autograph session with 2011 football team exclusively for season ticket holders (limit one autograph per person, no personal photos, bring postcard you received in the mail for admission)

PLEASE JOIN US ALL AT 6PM FOR A PICTURE IN FRONT OF THE BANK UNITED CENTER TO SHOW THE WORLD: THEY CANNOT DEFEAT THE U.

I leave you with the song that concluded “The U,” the  Hurricanes’ Hymn.  If your eyes are dry after watching this, congratulations, you have no soul and should cut off your jeans and start rooting for the crocs.

Mary – Was the invite for the autograph session the flier that recently came in the mail?

Who else from EOTH is going to head to Canesfest, and is there a pre-Canesfest meet-up party?

Well guess you answered by question about the flier. I through that damn thing out!

  5. Jello shots for my friend.

Lord knows she needs them today!

    Muah! Orange AND green!

  6. Yeah, when did we get the flyer in the mail?

  7. Shwarma – yes.

I will be there. Will probably get there around 2 and head to allCanes if anyone wants to meet at Titanic before or after, I’d be up for that.

  8. It should have come over the weekend or something. IDK, I don’t check my mail every day. I think I got it on Saturday or Monday.

  9. Guys, they usually go by your account number for that stuff anyway. You aren’t the only ones that threw it out, I’m sure

That allcanes article is nice, but I’m not really sure we have those kind of leaders on this team. Those guys in the 80′ and early 90′s were fueled by every media outlet chastising them and their own tough upbringings. Couple that with people telling them throughout their lives that they would never amount to anything and you have a perfect case of “pissed-off football team syndrome”.

A lot of these guys on the team now were coddled and told they God’s gift to the world by “nut-huggers” that wanted a piece of the pie if they ever made it big and by all these high school scouting services. Not exactly the same.

We got a ton of “lead by example” guys, and then we got guys who like to talk a lot but dont do enough to warrant it. We’ll see who really steps up this fall.

  11. Sniff, sniff.

    Just watched the video.

These guys today didn’t have to go thru the majority of the things the players from the 80’s and early 90’s went thru. The teams from the 80’s 1st off, howard was the 1st coach to start going and gettign the brotha’s from all over South Florida and let them do their thing back when alot of the administration was trying to keep em out. Than you had players coming from the times in Miami with the mcduffie riots when things were real segregated and Miami still is but the sections you go in now are not as surprised to see you like they were in the 80’s and early 90’s. Than you talking about a time when the show GOOD Times looked like they were doing well compared to alot of people.

Round the times with the so called trickle down economics fake out plan! I remember back than you’d be walking home and all day in Liberty City you kept hearing people asking other people “heard the good news, What, reagan got shot!

Like JEROME BROWN, some of yall know the story of when he came home and the klu klux klan was marching thru HIS hometown, JB was like hell naw, parked his truck, opened it up and let his system blast and overrode the hell outta that rally, they left.

The struggle was different back than in many ways, the system was more blunt, now it’s a system that’s more subtle and hidden but still getting alot of desired results, be that as it may though, hell it was alot of administrators back than who didn’t want probably 95% of the team on campus, that’s why guys respected howard and jimmy till this day as much as they do because when you come across men who don’t come in with all those hang-ups and ride the wave, you in for something special.

The guys on the team today, from a social standpoint, it’s a whole lot different, but they still little brothers of Miami and they got it in em, just needs a situation like this and more opposition to continue to help bring it out. Even without all that though, just basic common sense x’s and o’s will do the trick anyway!

How dumb the NCAA can be:

While on the road for competition, the women’s volleyball team had dinner at the home of a current student-athlete (SA). The SA’s mother gave each team member a “goodie” bag as they departed. The goodie bags were an extra benefit in violation of NCAA bylaw.

Well if they were crazy enuff to fall for the “tell the truth crap” than that’s on them because they had to know that’s the ole okie doke move right there. Man i would’ve been like look here playa, this guy just kept showing up everywhere we went and than we tried to pay for stuff and get to the counter, they would always tell us, somebody paid for it already, we didn’t know who. I would’ve left it at that myself. But i know j12 is going to get sat down and lose the starting qb spot by default, and hopefully spence didn’t come clean, none of the seniors should come clean for sure, if i’m a senior, no way in hell i’m coming clean, i’m almost at the gate, F that or in the words of Kareem brown, E….A….D… it’s in the game!

When goldie was talking that “i would just tell the kids to tell the Truth” i know he was saying, i would tell them that, but hopefully they real enuff with it to not tell the whole Truth. Somebody gone crack, a whole lot of them players are going to crack and j12 with all them text messages, now we’re going to see who’s real in the head but no way guys should be saying anything!

Time will tell, but I myself am more worried about having the defense clear than having Travis and Jacory clear.. Defense will be paper thin if not. Here’s to hoping for good news.

  74. Dayton long and short of it is in the 30’s a crop of kids were born to garment factory owners/workers living in the Bronx and Brooklyn. All were ingrained with the importance of a good education since there parents were business owners/white collars. Went to law school but when they got out couldnt get jobs at the top firms due to blue bloods/anantisemitism. Got jobs at secondary firms and took cases the top firms wouldn’t (corporate takeovers and such, things that were considered undignified at the time). Well in becoming masters of those subjects, 20 yrs later when big business came calling, they were the experts and became tops in the biz. Old power firms got left behind.

S5/bg – the school has to declare them ineligible and then the NCAA can rule on their reinstatement. There is no reason to feel optimistic or pessimistic, because we don’t know how the NCAA will rule – they’re keeping they’re cards close. So according to the article the procedure is the school will rule them ineligible and then it’s wait and see – with no idea, either way, on what will happen.

  82. Hmm, how do I put this nicely …

F*ck Manny and F*ck Susan Miller Degnan

Those 2 were some of the first that gravy trained the hell out of the Yahoo article

Susan Miller Degnan, well, there’s a reason Boss Man Shannon would always just look at her sideways with her questions and also Golden is starting to do that as well

Those two “journalists” should know a hell of a lot better than what they displayed when the Yahoo article came out

  86. long, very well-written article . . . (allcanes once more channelling their inner jsq):

    http://blog.allcanes.com/wolff-surfaces-si-joins-elitists

“. . . as expected, Wolff brought nothing new to the table. Like so many before him, the SI columnist points to the sensational Yahoo! article and the sordid details that grabbed headlines, yet remain unproven. Strippers. Hookers. An abortion. Cash bounties for injuring opposing players. Wolff is doing his best Charles Robinson, trying to re-write last week’s tale, instead of offering a fresh take and viable solutions.

Even worse, Wolff stands on his moral soapbox and not only insists that UM president Donna Shalala disband the program, but that she forms a one-woman army and uses her “substantial influence” to force the NCAA into righting their many wrongs.

Sure, that’s how the real world works. A university’s president willingly shuts down a multi-million dollar football program and puts all her day-to-day duties on hold to fight the corrupt NCAA, calling in favors on Capitol Hill. Seems Wolff sees Shalala as part Erin Brokovich, part Terminator. Someone in Hollywood, get busy on a script.”

  87. philly – here’s a quickie assessment:

Aug. 25, 2011 12:08 a.m. – by Brian London – Report: Miami will rule players ineligible
Twelve or more players being investigated by the NCAA in connection with allegations made by convicted Ponzi schemer Nevin Shapiro are expected to be ruled ineligible by the school, according to the Miami Herald. The Herald reports the school would declare the players ineligible and then hope the NCAA reinstates them by the time the season starts Sept. 5. Hurricanes RapidReports

    *************************************************************

This is what the NCAA did in the Cam Newton case last year and we will hope for the same results but I doubt it.

  92. we can beat Maryland without those 12 players. Stephen Morris was starting at QB last year when we beat ‘em. Streeter will be the big play guy and Hurns will be the #2 guy with Byrd catching hooks and slants for 7 yards a pop. Will have Clive Walford and Asante at TE. Mike James and Lamar Miller will be toting it. And no OL players are in that list. Will be putting up points either way.

on defense…Andrew Smith ain’t on that list so you got at least one DE. now with the other top 3 DEs on that list we’ll be looking at Chick getting an early indoctrination or lots of 3-4 being run – and he’d still be getting lots of time in that. no spence means Futch might be starting after all. but that secondary is going to be empty with jojo, telemaque and ray ray out. still i can ride with aj, swasey and tyrone at safety. maryland would get beat by back ups and Edsall might not make it to game two in his contract there because of it. but its all good. not his fault he’s going up against a vastly superior team.

  93. and Six, Manny is a guy who just is a bit on the negative side in general when it comes to the team. I think he’s become jaded to an extent.

    Susan is just a hack.

  117. I think A LOT of our fans should take this advice from Golden.

    Pu$$ies…

The NCAA investigations have to be a distraction for a team with their season opener in 12 days, but Golden insists it isn’t.

“It’s not. To me it’s a mindset,” Golden said. “If you want to worry about that stuff, you can worry about it. If you want to create excuses, you can create excuses. It’s no different than having guys injured, you can get sit around and talk about the injury or you can do something about it. My mindset has always been to move forward.”

With Jafloaty out of the mix that is an instant upgrade at QB and instant increase in YAC due to many factors.

YAC was night and day with him tossing.

If all this was going down last year, I would be worried.

This team is going to be much more disciplined, MUCH better tackling, conditioned like a D1 football team should be and tougher all around.

After receiving a citation for drunken driving on March 20, 2011, Floyd was suspended indefinitely from the Notre Dame football team on March 21, 2011. The suspension was lifted August 3, 2011, allowing him to return playing football at Notre Dame without missing any games of the 2011-2012 season. I guess everyone forgets about someone such as Danny Almonte. People must forget about other players who were ineligible to play b/c they were too old, but somehow, got through to play

  177. Nash, not sure what your point is there. Randy Shannon was a great defensive coordinator and Butch Davis assembled the best college football team to ever play the game.

So, yeah, I hope to have first rounders again.

Why is it that players come to our school with 3-5 stars and get drafted in the 6th round but players from other schools come in with 2 and get drafted in the first 3?

It all goes back to the player development.

Randy Shannon has many positive attributes, but he just wansn’t a CEO and the dudes he had coaching our boys either weren’t given enough room to coach them or they were inept. Theories vary. But for many years, it has seemed like our players regressed once they got to UM, unless they enlisted the help of a former Dolphin.

  178. You had me at Sunsations!

  179. You would hope that the scandal would bring us together

Like a certain poster on AllCanes said on the 2nd to last post …

“this is a fan base that preaches swagger this, swagger that, we have swagger, our team has swagger, bla bla bla .. but then their asses pucker up tight enough to crush a boulder into dust when some adversity comes our way”

It shouldn’t take constant “it’ll be ok” type writings by people to talk an alarming amount of Canes fans off the ledge about the situation

When a coach goes somewhere and his unit improves statistically, that is called an upgrade.

    D’Onofrio did this.
    Paul Williams did this.
    Jethro Franklin did this.
    Terry Richardson did this.
    George McDonald did this.
    Kehoe has done this.

For those that truly know how organizations work, you are only as good as the people that you surround yourself with. For all of Golden’s “shortcomings”, he has surrounded himself with people who have results to back up their resumes. How this coaching staff isn’t an upgrade over the previous one just isn’t true from a factual standpoint.

The only coaches that we should really worry about are Fisch, Barrow, and Carroll.

If we don’t believe that the coaches above aren’t an obvious upgrade over the previous staff, then there is no reason to believe that Brian Kelly is an obvious upgrade over the previous ND staff. The man has only taken two other down-trodden programs and turned them into .500 and above teams.

  187. Good Lord, Nash, he developed first – second rounders AT TEMPLE.

  189. Six, i think that’s where a lot of fans get confused. old 80’s and 90’s teams had that cockiness – was real. the fans portrayed it but was a fragile shell. cracks easy and true nature gets shown. i would go into how us locals used to look at UM student fans – back in the day. wasn’t true cockiness. definitely not what’s called swagger.

    Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer says:

Nash, stop trying to defend RS. He was a sharp tactician at DC but the second he got near the players in a leadership/ responsibility position HE SUCKED ASS!!!!!!

Team Golden are HEAD AND SHOULDERS above RS and his staff, at every position.

    There is NO COMPARISON.

The ONE thing he did was bring in enough talent to compete, man for man, with almost anyone in the NCAA.

That’s why we can whoop MD without those 12 players WITH THIS STAFF.

We could probably beat almost anyone else WITH THIS STAFF.

FSU would be tight. VT will be tough. And obviously OSU will be very tough even with their player losses.

Talent is one thing COACHING IS ANOTHER……

Bad coaching can RUIN talent. Great coaching can make poor talent look GOOD.

I believe that coin applies to RS and LC at the U……It also applies to Team Golden at TEMPLE.

    TEMPLE???????!!!!!!

Come on bro, give it up. Even if he was hamstrung by money and the admin, he could’ve found the coaches to make something of this talent.

Golden did it with LESS at Temple….

Shannon sucks as a HC. Period. He needs to get the hell out of Dade Co. and learn from some real HCs. But he’s so stubborn I doubt he’ll really absorb anything.

Bottom line though is we can beat just about everyone on our schedule without those 12 players. It won’t be pretty or dominant but we can win on talent and playcalling alone.

Reasonable and rational post Greg. The NCAA president understands how extraordinary the Shapiro situation was. He says the NCAA is going to change how they punish .The individual most responsible will bear the brunt of this not the majority of the players. I expect some suspensions of a few games for several players. Clint Hurtt may be in trouble I dont expect a post season or TV ban or any significant scholarship reductions.
Look the team had mostly stayed away from Shapiro since 2008 when Shannon kicked him out. He intentionally planned to incriminate players by intercepting checks and following them where they went
I wouldnt doubt he may have pointed out the names of the players intentionally when he was there help with his incrimination. The U hired a PI to check into Shapiro and were given a clean report. The guy had detailed flow sheets and charts of his fraudulent business. He fooled alot of people and he will likely have new charges of extortion to deal with as will his attorney in the future. He wrote extortion letters to the U and to former U players in the NFL. If you were on the ball you might have found that out..
The only significant recruiting issue of the basketball player was a ruse because the purported payment was made in the year after the player enrolled and played his freshman season.
Thank you and Dan Lebatard for having a measured sense about this issue and not jumping to conclusions .

  195. That’s why it’s also funny to me about the groaning of possible schollies being taken away

Where did Golden & D’Onofrio come from again?

They’ve had a hell of a lot less to work with before .. and considering all the talent that is on the Canes team .. they’re in a pretty good position

Ya, it might hurt depth with loss of schollies – but no more than some of these kids that are wasting schollies on the team right now. Come in as 4 or 5 stars and play like 1 or 2 stars

I’m looking at you Glue Feet #4. Still love that he admitted to taking it easy and not working hard. What a lazy ass

Yes, he made some nice catches before – can’t wait to see how fast people will bring up the Wake Forest catch. But it should piss you off even more that he has supposedly all this talent and he pissed it away the past 2 years

  196. Canez – I think Golden makes his comments just for you, as he’s got you gitty like a school girl

Nash – Golden will be an improvement regardless of his gameday skills, as he has proven he can develop talent at Temple (because even it was the best, the MAC isn’t normally choc full of future NFL players), which alone will be a huge upgrade from the last crew

EOTH – Since the school has to first declare the players ineligible for them to be cleared, why haven’t we done so? Is it just a case of them being worried they don’t get a quick response and they are weighing that risk vs. playing them?

    Cav,

There is legitimate concern over whether Golden is as good with the details as we all think he is. His win-loss record vs teams over .500 is kinda suspect, but I suspect that may have to do with the talent he had on offense. He had a couple of NFL-caliber players on defense, but hardly any on offense, which restricted what he could really do late in games. But talent wont be an issue here.

There are some coaches that just put their talent on the field and say “let the best man win”, but those aren’t always the best guys in terms of strategy. Pete Carroll is a good example.

Then there are coaches who are the best when their teams are in close games and what really determines the outcome is how they play certain situations.

If I had to compare Golden to any coach right now it would be Bill Cowher (without the scary glare or chin). Not always the best with details, but was still a very good coach and always stressed playing smart, PHYSICAL, football. Temple did not beat teams by being more talented, they beat teams by trying to physically hurt them.

There is a lot of information swirling through the internet and interviews that basically says the NCAA is taking a different stance on penalties.

They are going to penalize the people whom are invloved and not the current players or the team. For example look at the recent info on Tennessee basketball where the coaches were slamed but the team received no sanctions to speak of

Another one is tOSU and still nothing out there
UNC and still nothing out there

The NCAA stance is begining to change, watch for Hurtt, Haith, Hulcutt(toyota man) and the italian dude ponzianno or something like that, lol

Move on and up during the live fire -or- sit and piss in your pants about it

I brought up an analogy from the movie “300” on Canespace to them – good lawd, there are some peeps on there that need serious trauma re-hab from the Yahoo article

When 2 of the Spartans and 1 Arcadian are doing some recon on the Persian camp site … the Arcadian sees the vast amount of fires, tents, people, etc. and he is completely in fear .. the Spartan (Michael Fassbender) lays down some reality on him about what they’re up against and then starts laughing .. the Arcadian looks at him like he’s crazy and asks why he’s laughing

    Golden & D’Onofrio = the Spartan

Possibly some steep odds coming their way. They assess it, determine what needs to be done despite it and move onward

I have the same type of mind frame

  211. • Today was the first day of preparation for Maryland, which means the first day of having a scout team. A notable scout team member was sophomore LB Kelvin Cain who had on a blue scout team jersey, whereas freshman LB Gionni Paul did not.

    • C.J. Holton was back at linebacker after being moved to fullback earlier this month. (Maybe he’s just a lazy BUM!) Ha!

    • WR LaRon Byrd is one of many players on the team who is complimentary of freshman DE Anthony Chickillo. “He’s good,” Byrd said. “He’s a guy who came in and you would think he’s a sophomore already. He’s big, fast, strong, and has great technique. I think he’ll be a key addition to this team.”

    —————

I think that Al Golden is a straight shooter. If “they” have, then they have kept Golden out of the loop; is that fair to say?

  214. bg, wonder what is up with Cain. Granted it was one game, at Duke off all places, but surprised about that the frosh have passed him up so quickly.

Holton, man he is really trying to beat out guys like Jeremy Lewis and Ben Jones for LVP from that 08 class. Though prob going back to LB for potential depth reasons…

  215. Another thing to remember about Golden and certain Head Coaches …

It depends on their surrounding staff as well. Sometimes the Head Coach just has the final say on a play before it’s done – he might say no, he might say go

If Fisch is as good as some on here have alluded to, well, the Canes don’t have a lot to worry about then

We’ve seen on tape the type of personality D’Onofrio is – we’re hoping that transpires onto his players and with other assistant coaches such as Franklin and Williams, who were with him at Temple – it just seems automatically that the Canes will be better on Defense

    No favorites being played. Competition

  216. Shwarma.

I think the Freshman are just THAT good. I’ve been talking about Perryman since he was a freshman in HS and I LOVED what I saw of Paul when we saw his tape and Johnson too. Also remember, Cain was DE in HS so playing LB is very new to him.

  220. bg, even though we are long way away from knowing about any sanctions and NSD, just for arguments sake I wonder if we see a good amount of Paul/Perryman, if any of our LB recruits have second thoughts (those being furthest north my top two candidates)

LSU confirms WR Russell Shepard is ineligible for conferring w teammate prior to NCAA meeting

^^^We gotta hope none of this went on!

  239. Holy feeder band!

  240. Sailor.

    RIGHT!

  241. Wide receiver Russell Shepard will not play in LSU’s season-opening game against Oregon, according to sources close to the situation.

Shepard was involved with a housing issue during the summer. Reportedly, he lived with his girlfriend, a student-worker in the football office. Shepard was given a stipend for summer housing by the university.

Apparently, it is LSU’s decision to hold Shepard out of the Oregon game. There has been no ruling from the NCAA on the matter. It has not been decided if Shepard will miss more than one game.

With Shepard not playing, either sophomore James Wright or freshman Odell Beckham will move into the starting lineup.

  242. Is that PRO LSU propoganda or is Joe Schad’s story the correct one???? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

For those of you that live in the mid-atlantic states , little bit of hurricane info for you

*the northeastern quadrent contains the most powerful wind and rains and it is the first to hammer land

*when the storm does come in contact with land it has a tendancy to generate eddies or more commonly tornadoes

*after the eye passes the wind will change direction degress and pound the other side of your house

*tape on your windows is a joke, if you do not have any form of window protection, 5/8 plywood works pretty good, anything less than 5/8 can be pentrated by flying objects

*if you live in multi story house or building, you should consider sleeping on lowest level as wind strengh aloft is considerably stronger

*you should consider preparing a safe room, usually in center of house with no exposed windows, keep flashlight, water, battery radio, mattress and other bedding.

*DO NOT crack windows to alleviate internal house pressure, it will suck your roof off and that makes for a really bad evening

Most of all be safe and do not try to leave your house in the middle of this storm, all kinds of stuff will be flying around at 100mph and there could be unexposed power lines lying around

  256. nash, don’t worry about these buzzards, shannon doesn’t need defending, his track record speaks for itself. His bad(some for loyalty purposes can’t be knocked) moves were hiring/promoting that weak coaching staff up front and than having to try and upgrade it midstream. Of course him being in charge overall and with his personality it was all new to him but when it came to football, his success can’t be denied.

The facts are: Under shannon, players started getting drafted again and had he been the headcaoch this year without this nevin situation, he’d have his 1st, 1st rounders going in the draft this year. So shannon had this program getting back to that level of draftation.

The facts are: Under shannon, this team would’ve won more games had he not been sabatoged by the oc and the a.d. collaborating to get shannon out along with the infamous shapiro. And aubrey hill has been a double agent from day 1, i never liked the smell of that guy being here, of course he’d run back to gaytorville after he knew the durty deeds he’d done.

Now nash, you my boy, but when you saying this coaching staff is not better than the last, i can understand that if you coming from a stand-off, but i wil lsay this of the bat, the kehoe vs stoutland is not even close(don’t get to close to insanze1, contact must of hit you on this one), now as far as wide receivers go, an receiver coach we get that’s not a gaytor, is an upgrade over aubrey hill and as it stands right now, no nfl team is looking at aubrey. Now when it comes to petri vs jethro-time will tell( to me that’s a stand off right now) when it comes to brennan carrol vs fluzzi pannuzzi, fluzzi did well coaching the tight-ends, of his special teams sucked that bad til people forget he was a half way decent tight-ends coach, so as it stands right now, i can’t say brennan is better than fluzzi, when it comes to the secondary, coach mcgriff from a resume standpoint is sitting decent, at 1 point, had the # secondary i think in college football stat wise, got some db’s in the nfl, paul williams in my mind is a better coach than mcgriff especially from a technique standpoint and he’s got players in the league balling so i gotta give the edge to paul williams, so let’s recap:

kehoe vs “the start counter”==Kehoe(and this re-hire alone is worth coaches)
petri vs jethro==(stand-off but you could probably give petri the nod right now, sapp & john abraham tips the scale)
mcgriff vs williams==I’m going with williams
fluzzi vs brennan==When u got 1 hit wonder jimmy graham, epps and even rich gordon on nfl rosters, i don’t know who brennan can lay claim to-edge fluzzi
mcdonald vs gaytor-hill==winner-mcdonald=hill’s gaytor no other explanation needed

shannon vs goldie= recruiting wise- shannon hands down(knows the landscape better and has an eye for talent)

shannon vs goldie=coaching staff unity/hiring-goldie, came in with a fresh start shannon dealt with loyalty(goldie hired kehoe back)

shannon vs goldie=player development, advantage shannon, no more explanation needed!

Cav, disagree about Carroll. He’s great at beating the living daylights out of people, but when the score is close his teams dont often fare as well. We’ll see how much better he has gotten now that he’s in the big leagues.

And like I said, Golden’s “struggles” at Temple can attributed to his offense not being very good. Lots of NFL talent on the defensive side, not so much on the other side. When you’re not as potent offensively you’ll be hamstrung at the end of certain games, especially when you need to score in order to win the game.

I am not skeptical at all with this coaching staff. People questioning Golden need to realize that he has surrounded himself with quality assistants, and it’s going to pay off.

The only wild card is Fisch. I am willing to discount his one year wonder at Minnesota, because after Glen Mason left, that program has gone back to where it was before he got there. He was competing against Big Ten teams with minimal talent and a not-so-great supporting cast of coaches (outside of McDonald when he was there).

I’m really close to a fire station so my power has never been out long.

    [knocks on wood]

Ever since Katrina, I have tried to live by hospitals, police and fire stations.

During Katrina, they left us without power for over a week. I was living at the Wellness Center and law library.

  265. Let’s talk about fish vs nipple. When nipple came in, he plopped down some offensive playbook that players were saying was big as a thesaurus, when i heard that i was like ok, who needs all them plays, you not gone use em all so that was the 1st ridiculousness. Next, it wasn’t long before you heard the players saying they knew at least 95% of the playbook, but we still did not see signs of the qb’s getting better or the offense dominating the defense. Than when you looked at nipples offense at whatever college he won a championship at, it wasn’t at the D-1 level.

His play-calling to many times had 1 option reads and when that wasn’t there the whole play broke down but more importantly he would always be at a lost for what play/s to call next, never got in an offensive rhythm and it cost us several games. Plus nipple and nix had the same talk when it came to oc’ing with there famous statement “we’ll do whatever it takes on offense to get in the endzone” when i heard both of them make that vague statement i knew than and there game day play-calling didn’t surprise, thus nix running the option against oklahoma, for real, have some pride. When all else fails, bread & butter, wide receiver screen.

nipple’s bread & butter, qb under center, empty backfield set.

fish comes in, starts talking about the nuaces of the offensive and the common sense approach that’s needed, and it’s not so much as what he said, you could tell he understood offensive progressions. When you start talking about isolations, and let’s be for real, i luv the energy that p. hill brought on a lot of occassions, but i got tired of playing 10 on 11 offensively, the last 2 oc’s wasted pat hills potential, the man could’ve caught passes and they could’ve handed him the ball alot more than what they did, instead d-co’s knew it was 10 on 11. Everytime they thru p.hill the ball, he made positive yards, the comeback against Virginia and the clemson play i think it was clemson and nipple looking at j12 like, why did you throw it to him, that’s PRIME example of j12 going to a common sense option but the o.c. complaining about him throwing it to hill, hell he was open.

So people wanna talk about progressions in the nipple offense, he taught against that.

fih, under stands spacings and isolation, not just with lip service bt it’s being proven in practice and the offensive numbers and scrimmages back that up. Streeter is having good scrimmages because the plays are being opened up to get him 1 on 1 and when a defense has no clue who’ll be isolated, they have to read and react.

fish immediately identified one of the strengths of this team and had he had hank here last year, he would’ve been like a kid in the candy store. The only other thing
that fish needs to be careful of, and i know alot of oc’s want to be on the sidelines, but outside of the obvious sabatoge job nipple was apart of, in his 1st year, had he been up in the booth, i honestly think he would’ve made a better oc, plus that would’ve kept him and shannon apart to keep the tension down. Also, if him and j12 not talking, it wouldn’t of been that obvious because j12 would’ve had to either talk on the phone or not.

Game day coaching between shannon and goldie, i think it’ll have more to do with goldies having a better oc & dc, shannon failed to get better oc’s or and a more aggressive d-co as well. So having to better coordinators alone will make you look like a better game day coach!

Especially not compared to Dipple. No comparison whatsoever and Jeddi’s only called played once. But the little I saw from the Spring showed me he uses talent to set up plays not schemes forcing the talent to do what he wants.

He also forces the defense to make choices and the QB-WR choices stem from what the defense does or doesn’t do.

You have teams with a good power run game like Wisconsin that go 70% run and win games, control the clock, and limit turnovers.

That’d be great for us, as long as our defense can do SOMETHING to stop the opposing team. Otherwise, shootout imminent lol.

Hopefully all the players said they took stuff totaling under 100 dollars. insanez1 turned state too, i knew he was desparate but not that desparate to help get sm17 to start. I’m not that confident in morris myself, i’ve seen enuff from him to know that he’s no j12. He will get rid of the ball though, at the same time, it’s going to be interesting to see if al goldie releases the depth chart with who really won the qb competition, but maybe you can’t release a depth chart with ineligible players but knowing goldie, he’ll have a depth chart of the players who actually won starting jobs hanging up some where eligible or ineligible.

At least we’re down from 12 to 8 players though. And let’s not worry about bama players getting free suites, who cares about petty crap like that. shapiro is pathetic, if he’s proud of helping to damage young men’s future and said “he sleeps good at night” we definitely know what category to put him in.

nash, on the real i can understand this owner, we were just talking about this the other day, when did guys start thinking all these tattoo’s was good to do. Use to be a time when it was basically only rednecks that got tatted up like that. All of a sudden now, the brotha’s trying to take it to a whole nother level. When k-mart has those lips on his neck, i was like this dude can’t be serious. It’s an attention thang though, as if being on t.v. is not good enuff.

  292. ck, the most important one like in recruiting is spence! We do need at least one of the defensive ends to be eligible too, chick maybe good but i can’t see him having the stamina to play at a high level the whole game. Same with andrew smith, he’s good and was one of the hardest working players it seemed from his freshman to sophmore year, came back bigger and his weight gained seemed more significant than the rest. The good news is, we stil lgot marcus robinson and andrew smith with a lot of game experience though and in better shape, that will help marcus be more effective, he shows up when the lights are on, and he’s a prime example of a defensive feeding freezny, seems like he’s going to make a play right after somebody else makes a play.

  293. Andrew Smith doesn’t get a lot of credit. He’s a damn hard worker, steady performer, and is silently improving.

Truth be told, we have bodies at a lot of positions.. As to whether or not it’s quality in reference to quantity.. Well. Different story.

Luther Robinson, no idea what his injury was. He wasn’t even dressed out in the scrimmage. Shayon Green, he was a linebacker before a DE, but he’s got that injury bug..

Well, the new generation is completed connected to bass because bass matches the rhythm of the heartbeat and Rap has more bass in it’s music than any other genre.

  305. Well the good news is, it’s in the nc2a’s hands now so better to rule them ineligible to get the reinstatement process started, so as it stands right now, some guys still have hope as well to be in the starting lineup come labor day weekend. Other than that, it is what it is. Like i said from the beginning, this isn’t that big of a deal for real. Who cares, they tried to hype the crap up like it was that bad, if a guy wants to give away money unknowingly, paying tabs before you try unbeknownst to them, ok, could’ve been a female for they knew.

The way shapiro figures it, he’s got about 16 more years, and by the time he gets out, he thinks people will be done forgot about it. In the meantime, come the 1st game, if those players are not admitted back into playing status, shapiro will definitely be on pins and needles and get threatened, they may or may not let him watch the game that night, but i’m sure security will be tight around shap that night for sure.

With a name like shapiro though, he messed up big time, when you got goldie(always using the “he’s self made” talk) and than he scared to rat out fluzzi pannuzzi, than you got donofrio strangle held to, this is bigger than what it seems, them eye-talians not gone take to well with shapiro messing up the hustle money like that and breaking all kinds of eye-talian codes.

  306. It is funny though that half the defense might be riding the pine, lol. Both safeties, both defensive ends, 1 linebacker, 1 starting corner, 1 defensive tackle and a patry and a pear tree!
