Stand With The _ This Saturday At Canesfest
During the last week since Shapirogate hit Miami, I have learned a lot about people. I have learned that some so-called journalists will print absolutely anything, without regard to its truth. I have learned that most members of the media do not have an independent bone in their bodies, and rather than going against the grain, they would rather jump on the feeding frenzy that has enveloped the University of Miami. I have also learned that there are some Miami fans who should have their fan card taken, for no true ‘Canes fan gives up that easy.
On the bright side, I have learned that there are REAL journalists out there who seek to report facts and the truth, and not just sensationalism. I have learned that the Miami Hurricanes have some of the most loyal alumni, former players, and fans in all of college football. Most of all, I have realized: WE STILL GOT IT. As my mom said whenever fugly girls spread rumors about me in school, “if they are spending that much time thinking about you, you must be doing something right.” Well, ‘Canes fans, our football team hasn’t even won a respectable bowl game since 2004 (remember that year, when we just kept beating up on the inferior schools in the state of Florida?! I have goosebumps!) and America still loves to hate the University of Miami. I’m not sure if it is the weather, our legacy, or the superior writing on our alumni’s fan blogs (brushes shoulder off), but we still got it. We may be down, but we are not out.
Now it’s time to show our team what kind of fans they have. The kind of fans they want to win for. The kind of fans that deserve victory. The kind of fans that sleep in a ‘Canes t-shirt every night along side their puppy Sebastian who dons a ‘Canes collar. The kind of fan whose co-workers gasp when they enter her office, because it resembles the UM Sports Hall of Fame. The kind of fans that will have 50 people at their tailgate in College Park to kick off the Golden Era. The kind of fans that will be at Canesfest this Saturday, proudly wearing their orange, green, and white (and perhaps some of these awesome t-shirts from allCanes!) and letting the world know that IT’S STILL GREAT TO – BE – A MI-AMI HU-RRICANE!
