~ The following article was contributed by esteemed Eye of the Hurricane blogger, Delray ~
The Miami Hurricanes (1-2, 0-1 ACC) will host the Bethune Cookman Wildcats (crap not the Wildcats again!) (2-1) on Saturday at 3:30. The Hurricanes look to pull themselves up to .500 after a dismal defensive performance last weekend against the Kansas State Wildcats.
Let’s look at Bethune-Cookman statistically
QB – Jamarr Robinson is a mobile quarterback who would prefer to stay back in the pocket and deliver the ball to one of his speedy athletic receivers. He can run if the situation calls for it. He has rushed 26 times for 44 yards and 2 TD. Through the air, he has completed 55-of-91 for 553 yards. Robinson has thrown 3 TDs and 4 INTs averaging 184.0 yards passing per game with an efficiency rating of 119.16
RB – The Wildcats rushing attack has been very active averaging 217 yards per game. The leading rushing RB is Rodney Scott with 32 carries for 231 yards. Behind Jackson is Isodore Jackson with 31 attempts for 168 yards.
WR – Eddie Poole has 16 receptions for 165 and a 3 touchdowns and Maurice Francois has 12 receptions for 216 yards. Rodney Scott is also dangerous out of the backfield with 7 receptions for 97 yards.
DL – Tackles Jamie Farrington and Harold Love have 7 and 3 total tackles, respectively, and have combined for two tackles for loss.
Defensive ends Cornelli Wheeler and Ryan Davis have combined for 18 tackles with 4 tackles for loss. Wheeler also has a fumble recovery.
LB – The Wildcats LB corps consists of Ryan Lewis – strong side with 11 tackles and 5.5 tackles for loss, R. Sandilands 21 tackles 4.5 tackles for loss and 2 fumble recoveries – weak side and Jarkevis Fields in the middle who has contributed with 17 tackles.
CB/S – Daniel Rhodes has 5 stops and one interception while Jean Fanor has 1 interception.
SS James Butts has 13 tackles while FS Justin Blake has six tackles to go with one interception. Punter Korey Kowalski has 17 punts, averaging 33.8 yards per punt.
Kick/Punt Returns – Patrick Harris has 5 kick return chances for 38 total yards with a long of 427yards. He averages only 7.6 yards per kick return.
Courtney Keith and Angelo Cabrerra have 2 punt returns for 4 yards.
The Game!
I have to be honest with you, doing research on Bethune Cookman has been a challenge. It was difficult finding information on them (still don’t know if they have anybody who has attempted a FG?) and when I did find some information on a particular player it was often contradicted by another website. Luckily, I have been seen the Wildcats play a few times on TV. I must say that they are an exciting team to watch. Both contests have been high-scoring affairs. They seem to have good athletes at the key positions and have fought back after being down late in the game. Granted, they are not at the level of Miami, but at this point I believe a lot of us are still trying to find out what level Miami is at. The Hurricanes SHOULD win the game. The question is going to be how they win it. Will it be a lackluster performance or will it be a dominant performance like we witnessed against OSU? Bethune could make it exciting for a little while. Miami should come out with a chip on their shoulder. Yeah, that chip that was knocked off by a second-rate big 12 team. They need to get that chip back before heading into Blacksburg, the start of what most believe will be the most important three-game stretch of the schedule.

First!
Second isn’t too bad……….Some crazy comments goin on because the game I watched the OFFENSE had 4 downs to punch it in but couldnt and could only score 3 points in the first half. Some peeps on here talkin bout they played a good 2nd half but you should be able to score more than 3 points at home in a half. Blame goes to the whole team.

Great article BTW.
Go Canes!!
504Cane, no doubt the problem in that 1st half was to much changing up the personnel, no need to put in the young guns when the should be older pistols hadn’t done work yet. I know they wanna rotate the younger guys in but you could tell it wasn’t working early on and so the 1st half was just waisted offense & trying to rely on “Truth” miller to much. Also, trying to run behind brandon liner to much at this stage normall goes for negtive yards. If i’m an oc, forget bringing in boney ford, i’d just bring in a 6th o-lineman in figs and let’s go get it, chase ford is not going to do anything in the redzone blocking wise. kansas st. “Deserved Victory” .
Coach do nof, obviously he has alot to learn as a d-co, against running teams like that, you don’t have your safeties that far off from the line of scrimmage basically all game, than he waited to try and bring pressure in the 2nd half, kansas st. did nothing fancy, stuck with their game plan and got the victory. You’re not going to win to many games when the opposing teams racks up close to 270 yards rushing. Between jethro & do nof, they’re not on the same page. I see chick rushing up field on a 3rd and long and the qb just went in right behind em. They run basically an option type offense, why are the d0 linemen that close on the ball. Basic defensive techniques, you don’t have your d-linemen engage that early on option teams like that, they need to play a yard off, the delayed engagement disrupts the rhythm of the running play.
Anyway, we’ll see if it’s another lesson learned by this coaching staff. But it’s real dissappointing to see a d-co have db’s that far off the line of scrimmage, if you not going to play man against k-st, who are you going to play man against, here’s to hoping we don’t play clemson in the regular season. That style of defense coach do nof plays is about as conservative as you can get, it’s not based on athleticism it’s based on scheme.
I’ll say this about the 3-4, there is a reason when jimmy johnson came in, he ran all those coaches out the nfc east. He brought in team speed ran those 3-4 defenses out of there. As long as you got to solid bookends, and you run 3 wide receiver sets, you will kill the 3-4 because you’ll create mismatches all game long.
I like how people keep giving bill & his film crew all that defensive credit, those guys haven’t been able to play defense since the nfl confiscated there tripods, the patriots have been like manny pacquiao for several years now, there defense is their offense. 3-4 all you want, lok at what happened to pittsburgh when they played arizona, they had 3 good wideouts and ran up and down the field on that so called vaunted 3-4 scheme. I repeat, the 3-4 is a slow defense, if you get bigger players, i’m not seeing how that makes you faster.
THIS CUPCAKE TEAM CAME AT THE RIGHT TIME OF THE SCHEDULE
Great job as usual, Delray!
Nice first, Bennie! Sorry for the delay, I posted the article and went right to bed. Orange or green?
Pass it on to 504, apparently I need rehab if I’m giving the Turds defense credit on anything.

///////////////////////////////
No doubt, but even still, they should not have been able to out scheme us offensively, i would’ve forced that team to throw the ball!
Also, gotta luv how brandon washington kept saying, “i hear the play call and i’m like okay, i’m on the left side, than i hear the play called again and i’m like, ok, i’m on the left side” basically this man is saying run the ball behind me. In fact, that goal line situation is a prime example of what having washington at tackle instead of guard has watered down the strength of the o-line on the interior. horn is adequate at best, not dominant, gunn is decent and linder still needs time, so it was a mistake to run behind that side of the line anyway. In fact, most of the runs on that play go for no yards, it’s the same play they ran against the turtles and mike james lost bout 3 or 4 yards, that play needs a dominant blocking tightend and a strong guard, we don’t have neither on that side and if clive walford is not on that side, forget about it most of the time.
Calvin, that was what i was asking. why run to right instead of behind Washington and Gunn – especially since they had Ford next to Feliciano. that’s one missed block automatically.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>
This I agree with. I am far from being very knowledeable on defensive schemes but even I was yelling at the tv and asking “why are the dbs playing so far off”. Why didnt we stack the box more and have the corners play man and bring the safeties up for run support? Does Coach D not trust the DBs to hold their own in man coverage?
i don’t even mind the safeties being the standard 12 yards off the line at the snap…if you have the CBs playing tight. but we had the CBs playing off – way off.
Bill Snyder dissed us. Said Kansas State didn’t practice well the week leading up to playing us. He said if they did the score wouldn’t have been as close! Wow! We are KSU fodder!
Damn Bg…..We just got served.
That’s a real slap in the face to the players, and especially the coaches. Hope they’re listening and play AND coach the rest of the season pissed.
Never underestimate the usefulness of anger in achieving goals.
10-2
Tough talk from a coach who was 1 yard away from losing…
And what kind of team doesn’t practice all week for a game @ Miami. I call bullspit.
Jorge Milian – Jacory Harris wearing a harness around his left shoulder at practice this morning. Harris hurt shoulder vs. K-State.
That fossil is so old he doesn’t even know WTF is coming out of his mouth.
That said, I hope the entire big 12 smashes their asses.

Gotta disagree with you here, Cal.
We’re not debating which defense is better, we’re debating whether or not to implement a version of it into the defense. The coaches have never said that they would run it full-time.
And no one was talking about how”slow” the 34 was when the Patriots were dominating at the early part of the last decade. Like Esteban said, they had guys all over the place that gave their defense speed; Bruschi, Phifer, Samuel, Ty Law, Rosie Colvin, etc. A lot of people dont remember that the Pats defense was actually pretty good back in 2007 too. And the Packers defense last year had speed all over the place.
Alabama rarely gets burned by any team, and they might have the biggest, most physical team in college. Look at how much speed Florida had last year and how Bama just manhandled them.
There is no drawback to installing bits and pieces of the 3-4 into your defense. Miami is never going to lack speed, so thats a moot point. We need to stop trying to run past people so much and run through them for a change.
oh Dayton, on David Perry i wasn’t saying at 260 he’s good at that weight. Saying he’s already 260 so can be 270-275 by fall next year if he’s putting in the work in the weight room and making sure to eat right. will only be a RS-soph at that point. by following year he’s at least 280.
him being a RS-freshman i’m not sure why they moved him from defense. i really think the coaches want a lot of the 2010 guys gone.
Miami is never going to lack speed, so thats a moot point. We need to stop trying to run past people so much and run through them for a change.

SONUVABICH……DING, DING, DING!!!!!
Give this man his teddy bear!!!
And I won’t even blame the coordinators all the way…..By the time you’re 18, you should know this.
No matter where you went to high school.
Here is what Coach McDonald said…Same as me, the ball won’t be thrown PERFECT all the time. Pros don’t even do that. The WR has TO DO HIS JOB TOO! Make a play!
Manny Navarro
FYI, to be clear on what #UM WR coach George McDonald said of LaRon Byrd on Saturday’s INT: “He needed to come back to the ball harder. I think he pulled up a little bit and the DB was able to undercut him. So its about him rusting his training, trusting his technique and coming back to the ball a little bit harder.”
Also of J12′s 3 INTs 2 were trying to go to Byrd. I think safe too say these 2 don’t have great chemistry with each other. Hurns, Benjamin, Streeter, Dorsett. That’s my 4 I’d ride with. Laron just comes in to spell those guys or in 5 WR sets. I’ve lost that much faith in him.
^^^Coaches KNOW what’s going on. THAT is why Laron got YANKED after that INT!
Coach Golden and then Hurns on WQAM.
http://www.wqam.com/index.php?page=347
Este,
I agree. I think we can all read between the lines and see that many of these moves the staff is making is really an indication that they dont think there are many great players on the roster.
Moving guys around constantly isn’t a good sign. Its one thing when you move Lee Chambers or JoJo to CB for necessity, but when you’re moving Dye back and forth between DE, DT, and TE thats something different. They just dont know what to do with some of these kids.
I guess we’re in for a long ride
add that Byrd is on special teams for the first time in his career this year – although that might help him stick in the nfl that holding call he got didn’t help us.
KState can say what they want
They flew in, ran all over the Canes and then left with a “W” ….. stopped the Canes when they only had 5 feet of real estate to gain for the win
Again with the tidbits of doing whatever possible to fluff up Jacory .. just stop, we get it, it’s only maybe 5% his fault for anything and it’s 95% the OC, WR, TEs fault – b/c even if Byrd was supposed to come back for the ball, it wasn’t thrown into double coverage at all?
Coach Golden saying one thing about how the ball needs to be there for the TE in the endzone at the end of the game .. then the WR coach saying another about how Byrd needs to come back to the ball. Pick who you like that sounds best to back your guy
Next year can’t come soon enough
If the Canes don’t drop at least 42 on Bethune and if they give up more than 1 TD, this team better be made to walk back to campus
They should come out pissed off at their prior piss poor performance
Dayton, it really has to be attitude related. cause they are young guys with good size/speed. most coaches say give me an athlete and i’ll work with that. these are good sized athletes they are tossing in the trash heap.
but could be too early to say all this. who knows Dye might be the starter next year and Perry 3 years down the road. highly unlikely, but no time traveller here.
3-4 works. 3-3-5 works. You get the right players, you can make anything work to what you want
If I’m watching NFL, I like watching the Packers, Steelers, Ravens defenses – they seem to make their D work
And lets not act like the 43 defense is the best because of its speed off the edge.
The Giants have a fantastic defensive line and they raped in a few games last year. In their 6 losses they gave up over 30 points four times, including letting the Packers hang 45 on them.
The best defenses in the NFL are usually 3-4s, but that doesn’t make the 43 less effective. The Patriots were actually winning championships when their defense was dominant.
Finally watched Bridesmaids last night.
Not as funny as I was expecting, but it didn’t suck. Nice mindless movie to watch after a 14 hour workday.
And leave it up to a Gators coach to not know what a “padawan” is. Everyone that knows just a tad about pop culture knows what that is.
What a dumbass.
i wouldn’t know what that is either if i was asked 10 minutes ago. i’d know it was from star wars and that’s about it. might have been able to say “young padawan” cause i remember that being said but not really knowing what it meant.
ask me about an ewok and i can give info. padawan and i’d assume that must be from the prequel group.
What esteban said.
I have a friend who recently went to Taiwan. I think he was able to buy one ( one of these pawdawans that you speak of) for a night. Not sure how young she was though. I think she was at least 21.
He didnt even know it was from Star Wars until the reporter told him. You dont have to know what it is to know where that reference came from, especially at his age.
Watchin Sammy Watkins again…..
That kid GLIDES.

Clemson’s $$$$ won.

chase ford, the chop block attempt expert!
Btw on the 4/3–3/4 debate…
I dont think one is better than the other
And from what I can see on tv coach holler alot is playin mostly 4-3
My prob is he doesn’t seem to make calls that attacks the line of scrimmage and make the oline work be it run or pass…
That my only concern!!!!
We know these current guys are capable of playin on the opp side of the ball ” we ain’t doing it” (Ed reed voice)

Man, what dominant years you talking about, all their superbowls they won by a fieldgoal/3 points. Hell, everybody knows the 1st superbowl they got they shouldn’t of been there than the next year they come back with the “brady rule” although charles woodson forced brady to cough it up. The only real year you can call dominant is when they we undefeated and lost in the superbowl, which i told people, they were toast against the giants(sam madison for one). Spread offenses do not affect 4-3 defenses, see/ask the gaytors what happened to them in 2009. All those spread teams are, are running teams, you stop that and the pass is mostly shut down. ty law has always been a legit corner, but those patriots teams never impressed me, the only reason the dolphins didn’t beat them was simple, they had brady, we had jay fiedler, some reject inbred from somewhere u.s.a. He’d make sure he threw the ball to teddy bruschi every chance he got.
That defense the dolphins had was put together by jimmy(personnel wise) and of course mustache knew how to run it to because that’s his fortay. But the 3-4 works best against running teams with weak qb’s, all you have to do is flood the passing routes and somebody is going ot be open.
The patriots, once it was found out they were cheating like that, i wasn’t surprised but it made it even funnier to me, because they were cheating hard and still barely winning.
As far as what snyder said, it doesn’t bother me, they got baylor coming to town, so he’s trying to get his guys fired up for a team that’s going to give them a real game.
Also, on the bryd issue, that interception against osu was byrd’s fault to, no matter how late the qb is, you can’t keep drifting up field like byrd was doing and letting db’s keep coming underneath em.
I told yall in the beginning and i’m going to say it again, not having aldarius johnson has hurt the passing game, in an offense like this, aldarius would thrive!

It has NOTHING to do with supporting MY GUY, in fact, I don’t have a MY GUY, I have a MY TEAM! Its about BALANCE and showing OTHERS who ALWAYS blame the QB when its NOT always entirely the QBs fault.

—————————
I’m talking about the period between 2001-2007 where they went 86-26. Thats pretty dominant.
Hey man, I dont like the Cheatriots at all either, but I can admit that they were just flat out good during that period.
And Florida didnt do well in 2009 because Mullen and Master P left and they tried to turn Teblow into an NFL QB, which was funny because it was so pathetic. Bama played almost the exact same kind of defense, 3-4/4-3 hybrid, in 2009 as they did in 2008 in the SEC champ. game and beat that spread like a drum.
All Im saying is that we should more of a hybrid defense. It’ll be better in the long run.
How about we hold BC to under 10 points. Shoot, I’ll take under 14 points and less than 200 yds rushing. That’s a start for our brilliant defensive tactician.
10-2
USF hung 70 on FAMU.
Just a thought.
Ha….Watchin NFL Network….
They talk about Cutler getting clobbered in Chi. and them not putting him in the best position to succeed. Talked about how under Martz’ watch, all his qbs taking a beating, and how his offense is basically boom or bust.

Ask Six. That’s his boy.
GO CANEZ!!!!!
Zero chance we score 52 on them.
GO CANEZ!!!!!
“On DECK” to escort them….
I know that Randy & Larry weren’t big on delivering the Coup de Gras to the little guys. Usually the only times we put up big numbers on inferior comp’ is when we were aided by tow or three non-offensive TDs.
(Remember when we were good for about two of those a game…?)
I would love to see him do like Spurrier would do, back when he was coaching UF.
Sorry guys I am not a huge J12 fan but this last game was not his fault at all….he just needs to be a good manager, not great but good manager and he did that on Sat.
THAT DEFENSE WAS SO PATHETIC, DID I SAY PATHETIC…..they continue to play like that and even Tom Brady could not win a game with this team. The only thing hurting the QB from KSTATE Sat was the infield turf…..no hitting, no aggressiveness, players out of place…..ugh, ugh, ugh.
What did Warren Sapp say when he played for the Bucs, who then had a tremendous defense???? “Offense just needs to score 10 points, we will take care of the rest” Defense wins championships…Oh I love great defense and the Canes defense is below average AND IT MAKES ME INSANE WITH ANGER!!!!!!
C1. Don’t say that.
And if so….It’s because Goldie don’t want to, right?
I’m more or less paranoid with how the rest of this year is going to turn out.
Teams that SHOULDN’T be a threat, well. They’re going to be a threat. At least with what we were fielding on defense in the last game. Coach D can talk it up like it was just poor tackling, oooookay bud. If you say so.
Everyone looks at that Boston College game and salivates — they forget that they have one of the best and most often overlooked runningbacks in the ACC ..Montel Harris. Kid is built like a bowling ball.
Duke? lol.. Chastise me all you want, we’ve struggled with Duke the last few years. Yes, we came away with Wins.. but uh, having to come from behind in ’08 and ’09, and not entirely putting them away in ’10 after Bama ‘came in and WRECKED them with 60+ points.. WITH LESS TURNOVERS THAN WE GOT FROM THEM no less.. And they’ve got a legit D-Line coach this year, LOL. Duke also beat BC this year. Poor Eagles.
Coach Golden seemed pretty serious about the level of play that Bethune Cookman was going to come with..
The sooner that our kids learn that EVERY team, regardless of where they’re from or what they’ve done are going to give the green and orange all they’ve got no matter how haggard of a year they’re having, the better. John Calhoun acknowledged it during an interview. He knows that schools like FAMU and BCU are full of kids who desperately wanted that D1 scholarship offer that never came and that those very kids are going to be out and about to prove their case.
Hurri I just don’t think we have the horses or the execution yet.
I think golden would stomp a fuker if he had the chance.

I would find it hard to believe that the coaches didnt know how to defend that offense considering all the imaginitive offenses they ran into while in the MAC. Those coordinators run all kinds of stuff at you.

One thing I have learned over the years is not to listen to what coaches say rather trust what u see on the field.
Coach speak runs through every word.

this ain’t the mac
Real D 1 football
Nash,
I dont think you realize how many really good coaches come from the MAC and other small conferences. Its a long list brother.
Everybody has to get their start somewhere.
Player fukups and missed assignments on defense this year? No doubt.
It’s important to remember, tho, that we’ve beat Gtech 2 years in a row, and you don’t beat THAT offense without disciplined assignment football. Their offense hasn’t done squat against us the last two years.

No doubt u gotta start somewhere
But programs with championship aspirations don’t go there look for coaches to win championships IMO (not hc’s and oc/dc’s that is)
The Kindle Fire might just be fiyah. Could be a gamechanger.
3Xcanes, blackberry playbook price got slashed to $250 at walmart. better specs up and down than the Fire.
My boss has the playbook. Raves about it. It does something the others don’t apparently. Good for people who need to work anywhere.

nash, i won’t say you’re a vampire but you slippin!
bg, what school was it where you posted up that headcoach who had them boyz crawling on the beach like he had them in seal training or something!
Playbook looks good, but at 199 and with Amazon marketing muscle, I wouldnt overlook the Fire. Not saying it’s better, but that it could really sell. Other thing is that RIM seems to be in a death spiral. But yeah, 249 is great price for that machine.
Does somebody know what’s got the”Beast” in a tizz? specifically? Six?
The guy sure seems to go overboard on the prima donna act.
Were the krispy kremes not fresh in the press room?
They can say what they want, he did the right thing, next time somebody gives you a shot a the title have some respect and fight clean, but to intentionally dive in with your head because you frustrated you can’t hit this man, go head and sit down:

BETHUNE!
3XCanes, playbook’s can run android apps.
and yeah i think the Fire will sell real good. and hopefully other tablets that come out start aiming for the $200 price point instead of the $500 one they were going for.

Ha….Watchin NFL Network….
They talk about Cutler getting clobbered in Chi. and them not putting him in the best position to succeed. Talked about how under Martz’ watch, all his qbs taking a beating, and how his offense is basically boom or bust.
Cap’n and his anti-Whip stance immediately jumped to my mind….

Like i said, you need a pretty amazing team to run that O succesfully.

Apparently the removal of Jay Rokeach as PA announcer for football and BBall.
smillerdegnan #Canes voice Jay Rokeach has done UM baseball for 43 seasons. Amazing! Football & hoops decisions were not his choice.
