2014 Miami Hurricanes Football - "Surge & Juice" Helmets

For every team that is starting they upcoming 2016 college football season, the goal is somewhat the same, to be better than they were last year. In a word, improvement.  That is what the FAMU Rattlers will by trying to accomplish after a dismal 1-10 season last year. Somehow I believe that the Rattlers will have their sites set a bit higher than that.  I also do not believe they will get off to the right start on Monday coming into  a place that is starting to be referred to as ‘The Rock” to take on our beloved Miami Hurricanes who are also looking to improve on last years 8-5 team.  Let’s take a look at the Rattlers and what they will be bringing into the 2016 season. Specifically some of the players they will need to count on.

Jacques Bryant –  By far he is the best returning player on the defensive side of the ball for the Rattlers.  Finishing with a team leading 75 tackles he also an interception and a forced fumble.  He is a senior and is looking to go out a winner.

Curtis Alexander – Despite missing a game, Curtis was the team leader in tackles for a loss with 8.5 and also recorded 51 tackles. He also led the team in quarterback hurries with 5.

Both Jacques and Curtis are preseason All-MEAC candidates.   Image result for Curtis Alexander famu

On offense, the Rattlers have back two of their top receivers in Brandon Norwood and Montavious Williams.  Together they combined for almost 100 catches for over 1,000 yards receiving.

Usually we don’t make too much about an offensive lineman but I wanted to give a shout out to Keonte Cash out of Miami who is the starting center for the Rattlers.  Keonte is a second team All – MEAC preseason recipient. Image result for Keonte Cash famu

FAMU will and has had an uphill battle for this opening weekend and for the upcoming season.  With budget cuts where funds got funneled over to the legal defense team of another team in the area and a scandal in the band, they will have to give everything they have to revitalize the program.Image result for montavious williams famu

Sorry, I won’t be able to make the game this weekend due to my boss getting married.  But please go out and support the Canes and the new staff.  It should be a beautiful night and “The Rock” will be lit up.

Go Canes!

    Gettin the band back together…

Those FAMU unis are tough to look at.

Curious to see how this entire program runs under the Rev. I think bad habits are going to be tough to break but I hope these first couple games give the boys some time to shake off the shyt.

    Make Harambe proud.

Opossing teams are going to no huddle the shut out of us and try to take advantage of our youth at LB.

Our vets have to really dig in and finally put some results up to match potential.

Wouldn’t mind seeing the soul stealer 6 line up as some kind of rover to give some support up front.

Gotta get creative in order to hide the holes.

    That’s what she said…

    GO CANEZ!!!!!

They can no huddle all they want. It’s when our guys are looking at the sideline with their hands on their hips with a look of confusion on their faces 2nd only to the DC we had.

We’ll be better this year than last.

Delray, only 3 hours from Nashville. Make the drive down, why not?

FAMU runs 95% of their offense out of the spread so we’ll probably see a lot of nickel and dime defense. Maybe a little 4-2-5 with Jaquan Johnson playing rover/safety? Can’t wait for Saturday.

Hi JSQ! Updates! How old is Madeline, was her first word “ibis” or “cane”, and when does she get to try her first jello shot?

She’ll be 5 months old on September 7. Hasn’t quite said her first word yet. I thought she told me “no” the other day but then she just stared back innocently when I repeated it to her, and she might have said “hoot” while I was changing her diaper Monday night, not sure. Still waiting for that magical word “mama”. No jello shots until the ink is dry on her M.D.

Hang on, did you wait until you had your JD before your first jello shot?

But hey, you are the parent, I am just some guy that is a fan of jello shots, especially orange.

Yeah, might have to check that out. Hitting a few distilleries Friday along with “The Brown”. Checking out Mrs. KFC on Friday night as well.

Still hoping they call it off before my flight tomorrow morning so I can see the Canes play LIVE.

That game last night set the forward pass back @ 100 yrs.

    YIKES!!

What did stand out to me was the OL and DL for App state. They surprised me. Aggressive and well coached.

    UT got LUCKY!

We will be at their house and the place will be jumpin.

    Should be a good fight.

    Feel bad for their kicker.

That was my comment last night to bg and money. We have the forward pass as part of our offense. App St won’t be easy, but it won’t be that hard for us either.

Just emailed CANEZ and BG since site was down for so long, but for some reason after I did thought let me check to make sure, and looky at these shiny new digs. Nice job Delray.

But I have a confession to make. I am committing a cardinal Cane sin and will miss the first two games. Wifey knew they were walk overs so we are headed to the boot for next two weeks (had to choose missing Famu or App St. so I said will have to catch the band another time since those mountain boys will bring a good game).

Can wait to see this defense eat. Despite missing so many guys think we aren’t going to recognize this unit. And past first series, will be nice to see intelligent play calling. Record might not be a night and day change (since so much hinges on health and those freshman LBs) but good days are here again.

Interested to see a lot of the young guys today for this scrimmage.

No reason Houston couldn’t flip into what Miami was in the late 80’s early 90’s. In fact I think I read where that’s what Herman sells his program as.

    That
    Felt
    GOOD!

Control, domination, defense intimidating an offense, offense dismantling a defense, and in the end, showing class by pulling the starters and STILL scoring 21 more points on the opoonent while not doing anything like oh, kicking a FG with 2 minutes left.

Richt is a savage. Went for it on 4th down when we were up by like 50. lmao.

New blood in that man for sure.

We roll this weekend with a similar score and we roll App state like 42-14.

Great all around performance Saturday night. Power running game and smothering pass rush gave FAMU no hope right from the get go. It looked like the old days when overmatched teams would panic and just shoot themselves with bad snaps, blocked kicks and turnovers. Stadium was incredible. The overhangs definitely amplify the noise. The video monitors were the best I’ve ever seen. I can’t believe they had 63,000 people show up for FAMU. Great way to start the season.
