In The Mountains of Boone

78584448

This weekend at high noon the Miami Hurricanes will put their early season undefeated mark  on the line when they meet up with Appalachian State (1-1) .  Who is Appalachian State you ask?  The recent addition to the FBS program in 2013, the Mountaineers  had won three consecutive national titles from 2005-07.  They opened the 2007 season with a defeat of Michigan in the “Big House”.  Make no mistake, this is a well coached, disciplined team who has the opportunity to notch a signature win by beating Miami in what is being dubbed as the biggest weekend in the history of Boone, North Carolina.  Let’s look at who Thee Mountaineers will rely on if they are going to pull off an upset.

Appalachian State relies heavily on the run game.  In fact they average over 200 yards per game running he ball so far in this short season .  If they are to run the ball effectively against Miami, they will be doing so on the back of Marcus Cox.  Marcus has averaged 125 yds. per game for the Mountaineers and has 3 touchdowns.

Image result for marcus cox

At QB the Mountaineers will likely start Taylor Lamb.  Taylor does not go to the air very often and when he does it is usually for short yardage. The mountaineers have averaged only 147 yards per game in the on 15 completions per game.

Image result for taylor lamb

When Taylor does decide to drop back he will be looking for either Deltron Hopkins or Jaquil Capel, who have accounted for half of his completions.

On the defensive side of the ball Appalachian State has done some work allowing a total of 27 points including 20 in an overtime loss to then ranked #8 Tennessee.  The Mountaineers are anchored by Eric Boggs with 24 tackles and Keenan Gilchrist with 20.  Another Mountaineer who has made his presence felt on defense is Antonius Sims who has accounted for three sacks.

When Appalachian State appeared on the schedule after the Hurricanes were unable to secure an opponent for a meeting in Yankee Stadium, much of the fan base scratched their heads and chalked this up as a “W”.  This could not be any further from the truth.  Miami will have to bring their “A” game in order to get out of Carolina with a win.  As mentioned earlier,  this game is the biggest game for Appalachian State in the history of the school going back to 1928.  The crowd, which is expected to be by far the largest in their history, will be extremely pumped.  The players will feed off this if they are not already.  The best thing Miami can do is take an early lead and not let their foot off the gas.  If this turns into a close game it will be Miami’s to loose.

Go Canes

    Is that really their stadium??

LOL my HS stadium held more peeps.

Happy this is a day game.

Our DBs are going to be the difference in this game. They attack the sidelines with everything they do. If our DBs do not want to fight off blocks and get dirty, we are in trouble. If they come to play and get nasty, we good.

Hopefully Bradley gets off the bus this week and shows some grit.

    31-17 you already know…

Only way this game is close is if Miami comes out flat and turns the ball over multiple times. Not that App State is a total pushover but the truth is their best player would not be offered a scholarship at Miami. I’m going to assume that Kaaya isn’t going to have back to back sub-par games and the short passing game coupled with a power running attack will wear down the Mountaineers. Close for a half but Miami pulls away in the 2nd half 31-14.

If we spread them out some, our athletes vs theirs, it’s not a contest. They’ll get som because of adrenaline and home crowd, but a 31-17 type score sounds about right,

Surprised the line is only 3, though

CCC, spreading them out would give them too much favor as a smaller team. Tenn didnt have much success with that.

No linebacker from app state wants to meet that dude in the hole. He is pure destruction.

If Miami wants to spread them out and pass, there’s nothing App State can do to stop it except hope that Kaaya has back to back poor games (Pssst, he never has). Against Tennessee, App liked to bring pressure and try to get their linemen up field. They’d counter that by playing very soft in the defensive backfield. Kaaya should be able to eat them alive with flares, screens and other short stuff to try to force their hand. They’ll either have to commit both linebackers to stopping the short pass, which will free up running lanes or they’ll have to use a lot of dime which will open up room for the running game also. These guys are very small up front so they have to use additional pressure to keep from getting shoved around. (can’t block 6 guys with 5 linemen) The play the DBs way off to protect against the deep ball. That means lots of Stacy Coley, Braxton Berrios and co getting the ball in space with room to work.

Spread em out at first and then wear em down in the second half with a relentless rushing attack. They’re going to try to sell out to stop the run. Make them pay by peppering them with short passes and then hammer them with heavy sets later in the game.

Reading message boards/comments sections on various websites and a lot of people pegged Miami to lose against App St. It’s some real disrespect out here. Even with a major upgrade at head coach and a proven, multi-year starter at qb,a better defense from last year, these clowns somehow think App St will put In work, simply because they took an overrated Tennessee team to OT. I’ll be trying to catch the game from Bagram later tonight, here’s to hoping Miami puts up 60 on em. Show no mercy C.Richt.

The GT pep rally is at Dantanna’s in the CNN building at 6:30pm. A bunch of players as well as Sebastian will be there. It should be a good time before the game on Saturday. The top deck of the AT&T parking garage is where the best tailgate usually is. They open at 6:00am if you have a pass, or you can park for free at the North Springs train station and ride the MARTA to the game. That’s what my brother and nephew are going to do. You don’t don’t have to get up early and the train dumps you right at the parking deck and GT campus. There are other stations with parking, but North Springs is in North Fulton County and the train passes Buckhead and Midtown if you want to jump off and party on your way back to your car. Frankly, for steak and a unique experience, I am deferrential to The Forge, but there are plenty of meat palaces to choose from (weirdly sometimes I feel they can all be about ordering the right sides, wines, sauces, etc.).

In terms of Seafood, if you like whole fish, have to hit Lobster Bar Sea Grille in Fort Lauderdale. Have one of my favorite Bourbon cocktails (Four Roses, brown sugar, carmelized lemon), awesome apps (one of the top octopus I have had, tempura lobster morsels) and then like 8 varieties of whole fish you can order (though the mrs. needs to like that too since its for 2 ppl at minimum).

Sorry Nash, (can we still call you that?), but I am going UT all day.
    1. UF has two easy streaks in UK and UT, and they need to get broken.
    2. If UF wins, the rest of us will have to hear it, as they leapfrog Miami for beating a “tough and highly ranked” UT.
    3. 1985 is long ago, I don’t even cringe at Rocky Top the way I used to, but the Gators still leave a swamp stench.
    4. UT has other tough games, three in a row, #12 Georgia #10 Texas A&M #1 Alabama, so they will lose later and we will still move above them. If UF wins, they face nothing tougher than UGA and a suddenly deflated FSU the rest of the way.
    5. I don’t know any UT people, so their puffed chests and false bravado won’t impact me at all, but there are too many tebowites in Miami. Seeing them sad will brighten my day.

Oregon def blew their load and will fall back into obscurity until they hire a difference maker as HC. They thrived on funky hurry up offense before everyone caught on, in order to make up for their lack of recruiting but now everyone runs that shyt and their lack of depth shows up.

They just can’t recruit with the big boys.

Going to have a write up on GT tomorrow. Line opened as Miami at -3.5 and has already ballooned to -6.5.

Weather should be nice next weekend. Anybody else headed up to the ATL?

I was going to head down to Atlanta this weekend but totally forgot my grandmother’s brother is having his 100 bday bash that weekend.

My gram is 96, her bro is 100 and her baby sister is 90.

    What in the fug!!!

I missed his last 3 bdays because of football but my gram threatened my life this time.

Not canning Lester last yr was a huge mistake for LSU.

That place is a shyt show.

Van Border out at ND too. B Kelly is going to explode.

You should’ve heard the Gaytor excuses last night.

According to them they would’ve beaten UT by 30 if Del Rio wasnt hurt.

    I was dying.

    GO CANEZ!!!!!

Hey guys, good to see everyone discussing ‘Canes.

The FloriDUH loss brought joy to my heart, and yes, I have a zero tolerance policy for croc fans in my classes.

The smart kids find ways to talk ‘Canes football in their essays. I had one kid last year (he made an A not because of this, just that smart kids talk ‘Canes) that answered a question on how he became judge by saying he was appointed federal judge by President Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, a Miami Hurricane. I miss that kid. Need to get these new ones in line. Today is their first exam. My exam is based off of Orange is the New Black. Good times.

Madeline is just perfect, so smart and funny, already talking, sort of crawling, loves to laugh, loves her ‘Canes, and turns 6 months old the day before Miami/FSWho. We will have a party at our house on Saturday for the game, followed by her baptism and another party on Sunday for that. Lots of celebrating for turning a half and beating those dirty ‘Criminoles.

My husband told me last night that he wants Les Miles to coach KState. I gave him a look like he was huffing my nail polish remover. I think all the estrogen has gotten to him.

OTOH condolences to the sofl sports community with the loss of Jose Fernandez. Seems to me many down there have the feeling about him like they did when The Great Sean Taylor died….

JSQ…sounds great. nearly 6 months already. That’s crawl fast then start trying to run fast before able to walk time – or very soon. That’s exhausting! You’ll love it.

And I agree with hubby. Les Miles at K State would be awesome for both parties. Let him get back to coaching the hunter instead of the hunted and let them have a coach worth something while not having to force Snyder to coach til he dies.

and got them GT tickets. I have no clue where I’m sitting. Guessing good GT side tickets from how the dude described them to me who hooked me up. Through in a free parking pass, too. You know a place is starting to be home when you have your “people” who you can get free $hit through.

Bill Snyder? That’s going to turn into a Weekend at Bernie’s situation pretty soon, if it already hasn’t.

Not sure why any program would want to hire Les Miles right now. With an unlimited budget and recruiting classes consistently ranked in the to 5, the best he can do at LSU is 9 or 10 wins? Year after year of horrible, horrible offenses. Quarterbacks who never get better and often get worse. Running backs forced to tote the rock 30+ times a game against defenses stacked to stop the run. He lucked his way into being a two loss national champion years ago and his teams have only gotten worse as time has gone by.
