Are you a bit more excited at the end of this regular season than perhaps the past few? Probably due to the team finishing strong on a four game win streak as opposed to limping to the finish line as we have done in the past. With that being said, let’s turn our attention to the possible bowl games as well as the opponents that our beloved Hurricanes may face.
Taxslayer Bowl – Jacksonville, Fl. December 31, 2016 11:00 am
There has been more than a whisper that Miami may travel up route 95 and play in this bowl. This game for Miami would help in recruiting and also I would expect to see a large amount of Canes fans making the trip. I love the start time! Wake up, grab a little…um breakfast. Pop open a beer and watch the Canes destroy whoever they are pitted against. Now, the who they will be pitted against is a question that opens a can of worms. The hated team from Gainesville has come up by numerous sources as a possible matchup. This would be a great matchup for both teams and I believe both teams would love to see it happen. Unfortunately, this matchup has been brought up in past bowl scenarios and it just hasn’t worked out. We’ll see what happens next Sunday night. Other possibilities include Arkansas, Kentucky or an opponent that I believe a lot of people would like to see, the Georgia Bulldogs. Tennessee did play in this game last year so I do not see them making a return trip
Belk Bowl – Charlotte, NC. December 29, 2016 5:30 pm
Another Bowl the Canes have their eyes on is the Belk Bowl. Again, I like the date and timing of the game. Head out of work early, hit happy hour at my favorite cigar bar and enjoy the game with some Canes Alumni and a few former players. Should Miami make it to The Belk Bowl the matchup would probably be between one of three teams, Georgia, Kentucky or South Carolina. Although the latter could be a long shot it would be a matchup the Canes should be heavily favored in and should win easily. Look for the Belk Bowl to pass on Miami. Just my opinion that they will try to get UNC in as it will sell more tickets being the home town team.
Pinstripe Bowl – New York, NY. December 28, 2:00 pm
This may be one of the more intriguing games as, well, let’s face it, it’s New York. New York is home to a very high population of Cane Alumni who will no doubt flock to see their team play locally. So I may have to ditch work a bit early that day but not a big deal. Two teams come to mind for this game from the big 10. Minnesota, a team that finished with an identical record as Miami at 8-4 or Maryland that struggled at times but did win the season finale against Rutgers to finish bowl eligible.
No doubt who the Canes next opponent is or where they play. I believe we have not felt this level of confidence in a while. It feels good and is something I believe this staff will build upon.
