DZ8, you saw the other piece of info in there was him being switched to DT in addition to the double-teams. So that tells you the problem isn’t Bailey being on the end, it’s the middle being weak. That problem is remedied for the most part, definitely remedied if Forston’s ballin to his ability.

And with Robinson, Ojomo, Vernon, Wesley et al ballin on the other side, Bailey will be free to wreak havoc all over the place. If Vernon and Ojomo are 90% of Bailey, which I think they are overall, maybe better in some areas, anyone trying to double team Bailey will be playing at a disadvantage, which is what we want.

The aim, to me, is to have Vernon and Ojomo playing at such a high level that we’ll be able to switch Bailey to one side or the other with no drop-off in production. Throw in Wesley, M-Rob and maybe even Smith, and we’ll have the best DE rotation in the country.

Now the real proof of Petri’s worth will be with guys like Lewis, Luther, and even Wesley and Smith……young guys who are really just learning the position, as well as older guys who have weaknesses that technique and experienced coaching can correct and enhance.

  26. avatar DZ8 says:

He was switched from dt to end and he got most of his stats at tackle which is harder to do. The double teams could’ve occured because the d tackles were weak, absolutely. My point is that the tackle spot is lighter on depth than the end spot. Putting Bailey at tackle would even the numbers out a bit. As it is now we are hoping Forston bounces back, hoping Regis and Porter improve. Thats it, IMO, Josh Holmes is (to use a Randy term) a J A G, just another guy. Putting Bailey there would give us a two deep at tackle while still keeping us very deep and talented at the end spot.

(For the record I’m fine with Bailey at end. Just want to see other opinions on this.)

    >>>>>

These fools are falling for the bait. Shannon’s playing poker with these dumb-dumbs. He’s got a royal flush but making them think he has a flop. Suckers.

  28. avatar Old FartNC says:

Everyone knows that if Hank is double-covered often, J12 will find weakness somewhere else and the team benefits.

Yet we have “A steady diet of double-team blocking left Bailey ‘frustrated a little bit.’” Cheer up, Allen. You’re doing your job, the team will benefit, and the scouts will notice. I know it’s hard, but forget the stats. Besides, Petri probably knows ways to beat the DT, and you’ll look even better. lol

  29. avatar Captain Optimist says:

DZ8, I don’t think Bailey’s as good at DT. I don’t think he was better than Forston actually, so Forston’s return with Regis and Porter’s growth, as mentioned by Shannon himself, gives us the anchor in the middle for the really athletic ends to roam freely.

Now there may be situations where Bailey comes inside, which makes sense.

    Btw, did you notice his measurables….benching 460, squatting 585 and running a 4.6 at 6’4 290. That’s super-stud status.

  30. avatar DZ8 says:

I noticed Cav… hard to miss.

I think Bailey can play at 100% of his potential at end. I think Bailey at 90% at tackle is light years ahead of Forston right now. In a way they kind of owe it to the player to put him in a spot where he’ll look the best and will probably end up in the pros. On the other hand it is a team game and all these players put team first. Coaches know what they’re doing, especially with Petri there. Just don’t want to see him slide back to tackle if injuries occur. Better to start and prepare there to make the team the strongest.
Maybe Luther Robinson as a redshirt frosh will step up this year.

  31. avatar Captain Optimist says:

Bailey’s cool with it, real cool in general. I knew he was one of the coolest cats when I saw that photo of him with a toothpick in his mouth while he was signing autographs. haha Only the coolest cats do that.

But Petri I’m sure will help him with the doubles. Last year though, we didn’t have a strong DT rotation to take advantage of the doubles on Allen. This year will be a totally different story, on both sides.

  32. avatar The Truth says:

Bailey 100% should be at DT

4.6 staightline speed doesn’t mean dikk at DE if you’re not light on your feet.

Bailey is lots of things, but light on his feet ain’t it and that’s ok. I hope he goes to DT and stays. He’d push the pocket and cause problems and that’s what’s missing there.

We got lots of DEs that can play well and rush the passer.

  33. avatar shwarma says:

Truth, with Petri, you think Bailey can have the moves to disengage from the OL and create that havoc? Also, is what you saying personal opionion about him at DT, or are there some feel that it should be that way too (as i recall Petri said DT but Randy DE and Randy wants #44 at SLB while Lovett said MLB, but these were just tidbits in recent stories and I am not sure if they are true)

  34. avatar Captain Optimist says:

Truth, good points about his lightness of feet. If that’s the case why do you think he’s staying outside?

DZ8, sounds like your original points were spot on.

  35. avatar The Truth says:

It’s my personal opinion. Why wouldn’t a team want it’s best DL at that kind of weight in the middle where he has to be double teamed?

At DE he can be pushed and pulled out of position and run right by…which happened A LOT last year. I’m not saying he’s not a good DE, though…I just think his size and strength should be used in the middle…

  36. avatar shwarma says:

Fair enough. I see him projecting in the league as a 3-4 DE anyway (unless he were to play DT this year a play well), so its not like he can play that position here.

  37. avatar shwarma says:

Also, while some stories have said Fortson is getting good reviews on the comeback trail (I think they quoted players in these cases I am talking about) Truth do you think if he (Fortson) struggles in practice and we seem thin, would they consider that move or would only an injury force their hand?

  38. avatar The Truth says:

    I don’t know shwarma…

  39. avatar The Truth says:

    Cav

Because DE isn’t an all out brawl every play…

  40. avatar Captain Optimist says:

Well did Bailey look better at DT or DE? From what I saw, he looked good at DE, although T’s right about him getting thrown out of position and run by. But how much of that was technique and just general inexperience?

Haha, true. Well, if he added another 10 pounds, which shouldn’t be difficult to do, he’d be perfect DT size, esp. with all that strength and power.

  42. avatar The Truth says:

To me he’s good at both. But IMO that defense is better with him at DT. I do know the line coach and DC agree…

Hmmm, I can see where you and DZ8 are coming from with him being in the middle because our DTs are still a little thin as far as quality depth are concerned. A rotation with him, Regis, Porter and Forston would be STEEL.

The problem wit hallen bailey at defensive has more to due with his balance, his lower body is more like a linebackers lower body, this why he’s normally on the ground alot of times, because they use his speed and weight against him out their, on the inside he’s a whole lot better because as it’s been pointed out, it’s grimey in their, so allen would be able to use his strength, spped and quickness a whole lot more, like the way he got to tyrod taylor on that last play, now the play he got to that clemson qb on, he was at right defensive end where i think he’s better at, because that’s normally the strong side, put ojomo or vernon on the left side until bailey graduates, but at the same time, if josh holmes is in the rotation, than i’d rather see bailey play d-tackle than and than put in as many real defensive ends as possible, like, ojomo/vernon on one side, robinson on the other side, bailey and forston/regisporter at the other d-tackle spot, good luck offenses with that line-up out their.

Say it again cav, what they falling for, the old banana in the tale pipe trick with shannon taking bosher. shannon already knew by him taking bosher, people were going to be looking like, what the hell, a kicker, but that’s what shannon wants, he wants bosher to keep feeling disrespected and he’ll remind bosher of that all day long, man, nobody here is respecting you. i luv the look on boshers face when someone breaks for long runs and he hasto make the tackle, that mofo is pissed off, like not today, and why did i have to make the tackle. When he got that personal foull for that late hit on reid, i got fired up my damyum self. Than we all know about the 2 suplex tackles he had on i think it was demps when we played the gaytors. bosher is old school, let him tote the rock at least 1 time, hell in the championship game/s would be nice, he’ll get to the house one way or another.

Cal, yeah, Bailey is a little top-heavy, even with his Herculean strength and power, it doesn’t do any good if you can be pushed over or thrown off balance because your legs can’t really counterbalance your torso.

It’ll be interesting to see how Petri teaches him to use his upper-body to control the tackle and outmaneuver the double-team. It’ll also be interesting to see if he becomes quicker off the ball and maybe even learns how to use his leg-core strength/power even more to help his balance and agility.

I’ll tell y’all, the more we discuss this the more I realize Petri is the 4th most important piece of this staff.

He may or maynot do well in the pro’s but running out of bounds in the nfl, not to many guys going for that.

lol, oh know, don’t tell me, if we relying on fluzzi to get us where we need to be, we gone have to take this thang back to the 80′s style of highschool football in DADE County where fieldgoals wasn’t being kicked, not even on extra points.

  85. avatar Calvin says:

Here is a real good clip of the clemson game, it’s clear where our problems were, and that defense that lovett is running requires the type of athletes shannon has been bringing in. Case in point, that wheel route they ran where cj spiller got behind a broke down spence, where in the hell was randy phillips, getting blocked by a tight end, 35 to 40 yards downfield, that just can’t happen, he’s suppose to be able to free himself from that tight-end and at least get in the paly. Their was a particular play where the tight end for clemson caught the ball, and both ray ray and vaughn telemaque showed up at the same time and introduced themselves to em. What that tells me is, they both have that high awareness back their from the safety spot that we’ve been missing for years now.

FML.

  89. avatar Uchamps says:

No need to be rude. It’s your opinion. Personally I don’t think those look like the same people.

It’s funny how i’m “blind or an A*s” but you think that the NCAA is letting UF players gain 15-20 pounds of muscle without ANY ATTENTION. We will see who is right once the season starts.

I GUARANTEE neither of those guys will be that big. It’s nice to know that a Miami fan loves a Gator photo so much he’s willing to insult someone for it.

    Lol…

Luther Robinson was #93 by the way… In the backfield all game long… The thing though Cal is that, people seem to want to put Bunche in the two deep just because of his size but they put Luther on the bench like an after thought… That kid did his thing though

I didn’t see anybody push B. Wash back, that kid is the man, lol… I think we’ll be fine on the OL though…

Randy told reporters again that Figueroa will be playing RT at the start of Fall camp which probably means no Ben Jones/Jermaine Johnson… It’ll probably be B. Wash, T. Horn/B. Linder, and H. Gunn on the interior… All I say to that is just block people!!

  102. avatar Doc Ibis says:

    Randy said:

    * Shannon said the team has decided to move Joel Figueroa to right tackle, with Orlando Franklin at left tackle. Last year Figueroa played guard, and Franklin didn’t being playing left tackle until late last season.

“The best thing that happened to us is we had Figueroa and Orlando out for the spring, so we developed some young guys,” Shannon said. “Jermaine Johnson and Ben Jones (worked at) tackle, and Jared Wheeler really picked it up inside. So when you look at the team, we moved Orlando and Joel to offensive tackle. We have Brandon Washington and Harland Gunn who played a lot last year in addition to Wheeler, so we have three guards. Now we have guys who will get experience against (Adewale) Ojomo and Marcus Robinson for the upcoming season. It’ll make us have the best five guys on the field.”

  103. avatar Canez1 says:

Figs at RT means Gunn get’s in at G. Love that kid in the lineup.

Sounds like you’re really invested in it NOT being them. But it is. Deal with it.

By the way, you can rest easy, the NCAA is not going to “investigate” UF because of those pics. I think agents paying players, and lack of institutional control, should be what you need to be more worried about. NCAA PED testing must really suck (look at Cushing) because NOBODY gets caught until they get to the NFL.

Ladies & gents, sorry for feeding the…

  106. I was listening to Ferman on rivals this morning and he gave a pretty fair out look on the up coming season for the canes…alot of what he said has been mentioned by bloggers here and ob TOS…talked alot bout strenths being rb, wr, dl, but I was surprised to hear him say the db situation looked really good. He went as far as to mention mcgee specifically…he mentioned the question marks and overall key to success being how well the ol and lbs hold up…also he talk about how he doesn’t expect Henderson to come in and ” take over asap”, as he mentioned BIG MAC having to red shirt out of jc…both Ferman and King thot the “ohigho” st game is a measuring stick to guage where team Shannon is in year 4…so I guess we’ll see

Uchamp – study the pics closely, that’s them.

    ————————

I studied the pictures very close and even compared them to many other pictures online. First, I can’t find either of those pictures in there origination. Second, Dunkley isn’t even on the UF roster yet. If you find him on the official UF roster let me know. But I don’t even think he’s gotten to school yet.

There is NO way a true freshman got as big as Matt Elam that fast without the entire cfb nation circulating that picture of him.

Come on, those guys are VERY noticeably big in a very short time frame. Who wouldn’t notice that and make it a big deal? How can Dunkley get so big and he isn’t even at UF yet?

  108. avatar The Truth says:

    —————–

In what way am i ” riling up the blog”? Why are you being rude because of a debate over some pictures?
Give me more evidence… Help me out. I’m not trying to be cynical. I just don’t think those pictures are real. Why am I being attacked for this?

I thought this blog was legit. I see that there are very rude and unfriendly people on here. I could see if i attacked Cane football. But all i did was disagree on a GATOR photo. Man..

  112. avatar CanesCanesCanes says:

    Uchamps

You’ve just proven my point. Thanks. You’re really invested in it not being them. It is. Take it to the bank. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Got a great idea for you. Go start a thread about the injustice of it all at Gatorsports forum. There you can discuss the relative merits of the pics with like minded lizard afficionados. That work for ya?

Otherwise this is my last comment. I’ve already fed you too much.

  113. avatar The Truth says:

    Yes…this place IS legit.

But you are a gayturd. So be offended all you like and go away :-)

  114. avatar Uchamps says:

Just because I proved your point doesn’t mean that those are the two young men in those pictures. So all that noise you’re talking is IRRELEVANT. Take that to the bank! Gator or Cane, those are two young men with lives and reputations and it’s not right to make blind assumptions off of one picture.

How can I be a gayturd when i’m reading this blog? This blog isn’t easy to find and you would have to be a Cane fan to read/comment on it.

I really like the information presented here and I appreciate the time and effort the writers put into their posts.

Although I am upset about the rudeness of some of the posters, I still appreciate the input you guys give. Props to Esteban, Hurricane Randy, Miami Mike, JSQ, Doc Ibis, and Optimist.

You guys make this blog a great read for a fellow who needs his daily canefix! This and allcanes are becoming my fave Cane blogs!
But, I will be keeping my comments down and my reading up because I refuse to get attacked and insulted for NO REAL REASON other than disagreeing with a photo.

    Thanks again!

  115. avatar Doc Ibis says:

LMAO… This is the troll treatment? I’ve never met a troll before but he doesn’t seem like one to me… He just has his doubts about pictures that look obvious

  116. avatar The Truth says:

    Yep…that’s the troll treatment.

Sorry your feelings are bruised Uchamps. If you get your panties straightened out and stop defending gayturd pics you’ll see ALL of us are quite friendly.

But like I mentioned earlier…defending gayturd pics while placing a guarentee on how fake they are is NEVER going to get the politeness out of everyone.

    I’m just sayin…

    And IMO you’re a troll. But we’ll see…

  117. avatar CanesCanesCanes says:

    Truth,

The alleged troll posts counter pics of the ‘roid crocs that are at between 7 months to over a year old to prove his point. If that’s the best he’s got he’s lost already. imho, he’s trying to be clever ‘turd trying to pose as a Cane fan. Like you said, we’ll see..

  118. avatar The Truth says:

You and I are on the same page CCC…

  119. avatar Uchamps says:

What is there to see? Have you guys actually encountered real gayturd fans? If you have you would know i’m not a fan of anything gator!

At least i posted pictures to prove my point. The only thing you posted was an insult because you have NO proof! Dunkley isn’t even on the Uf official roster so where is your claim to refute that?

And if those pics are real. Please post where they were taken or posted in there origination and not that stupid “shortattention” site.

I don’t care about Uf and din’t even know about those recruits until I saw those fake A*s pictures reading this blog.

None of my actions or post have warranted me being any sort of troll. I just like fairness. It’s cool to have a rivalry but making false accusations and trying to destroy a kids reputation who hasn’t played adown of cfb yet is just crazy. I dont care if the kid played for Vanderbilt.

So much for family atmosphere in this blog. If this is family its more like the MAFIA!

It’s fans like truth and ccc that make people hate UM and anyone who roots for them. I’m following the Canez and taking up for them everydamn day and these geeks are calling me a Gayturd troll.

I’m starting to think you guys are gators…

  120. avatar Uchamps says:

Deitrick Epps would tell you how much I LOVE the canes. Oh and I have a profile on espn and i’m a regular in the acc blog section. “Dau4uchamp”. Check out the comment section and you will see everyone knows me as a die hard Cane fan!

  121. avatar CanesCanesCanes says:

Dude, chill out. Is this what happens when someone disagrees with you? Get a clue.

This whole thing sure does have your panties in a wad. This obession over defending ‘turds is amusing. Why don’t you go to some ‘turd blogs and defend the Canes while you’re at it. The racist and malicious lies that are spread about Randy Shannon would make your skin crawl if you’re a real Cane, or a real human being. Why not worry about that? Beleive me, the things said and written about Randy and the canes by the turd faithful are truly despicable and disturbing. Work on that with all that pent up passion you have.

Why taking it so personal? So what if Truth or I have some serious doubts about you. Say what you want. I say what I want. No harm no foul. If you can’t stand the heat, then stay out of the kitchen. Otherwise, man up, make your point and move on. I’ve gotten my clock cleaned a couple of times. You just take it and move one. No big deal.

There’s plenty else to talk about if you’re a true Cane fan. If not, you’ll eventually get found out and busted.

  122. avatar Uchamps says:

dude you guys are bi-polar. I cant wait for a new post to get off of this subject

  123. avatar shwarma says:

Truth and CCC – Consider me Solar in this respect just tyring to be the moderator, but as long as no posts were deleted and I have seen the whole converation, you guys should chill a little as I can’t see quite what has you breaking out the troll treatment

I mean I have no problem with the man saying he thinks the pics were fake and then trying to prove it. I mean I don’t agree with him and think he is wrong (and don’t know why he should care so much), but it wasn’t a capital offense.

Plus he is trying to at least prove he is a fan and show he is a regular reader. A true troll would just stick with the insults.

We just should know that UChamps won’t be on your HOF ballots anytime soon.

Now feel free to rip on me for coming to his defense some, as that I can take and don’t mind at all

Just saying as bystander seems like some a lot of noise about nothing…

  124. avatar CanesCanesCanes says:

    Shwarma,

No need to rip you. You make a well reasoned argument. I just have my doubts, but I’ve made that abundantly clear. I don’t make the rules or decisions so it’s just my opinion, nothing more. The pictures look real as hell to me and anyone can draw whatever conclusions they want, but as far as I’m concerned this beef is over. Let’s talk about something else.

  125. avatar autumn says:

  142. avatar JSQ says:

    Whatever you do,

    DON’T FLY DELTA!

They are the worst airline! You might miss the game because of them!!! Don’t get me started . . . they canceled my flight to the bar exam, made me spend two nights in Atlanta because of their horrible customer service, and this year going to Vegas was the last straw.

You will make up the difference in the fares by checking bags on Southwest and you will actually arrive at your final destination (on time or close to it) with them. What a concept!!!

Sorry, I’m a little bitter over spending 16 hours in airports yesterday . . .

I’m sure you won’t have that extra ticket for long! Where are you sitting?

What hotels are you looking at? I’m staying about a mile north of the horseshoe. The price was a little steep (they have been taking a percentage of my paycheck since December and I have to name my first born “Hilton”) but it will be convenient.

JSQ – I hear you about Delta, I’ve had them cancel flights on me too. Unfortunately, sometimes they’re the only ones I can take (for business). Actually, it looks like I MIGHT be taking Delta up and USscare back. Going to decide by tomorrow, but SW is still in the running. I plan to lay out a Delta and SW in front of me and will select the ariline in front of my family, 17-year-old-recruit style. j/k. Don’t know where I’m sitting, btw, haven’t been sent the tix yet.

  150. avatar CanesCanesCanes says:

What happened anyway? What were the originating and connecting cities?

The worst Delta ever did me (this year) was earlier in the winter when I had a meeting in Manahattan. I had a room booked the night before to be fresh and prepared the next day. Delta cancelled me the day before – ONE HOUR BEFORE I WAS SUPPOSED TO LEAVE. Did end up on another flight and didn’t even get into Kennedy (originally was flying into LGA) until after midnight. By the time I got a cab and was actuallly in my room it was well after 2am. There went being alert and fresh for the meeting. There went a nice meal and a nice night in Manahattan. I’ve got worse ones than this but that was the worst this year. Thanks Delta.

Try explaining THAT to your boss! GRRRR!!!! So, my kind ‘Nole friend came and picked me up and took me to my car at PBI. I was home at dawn. 30 minutes of sleep. GRRR!!!

Tail-blogs? Is that like tailgating on a blog, autumn?

jsq – you are the queen of virtual flirt and truth & you bring out the bedroom humor in each other (and it really is humorous).
“tail-blogging” was a weak attempt at double-entendrè humor (knowing you’re a good blogger and a good tailgater, yes – i put them together) . . . assuming that “tail” still means the same thing it did when i was in the states 30 years ago (as in “chasing tail”).

What that tells me is, they both have that high awareness back their from the safety spot that we’ve been missing for years now.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmdmRwykdoo

    >>>>>

Cal, watching these clips leaves me with a few conclusions.

#1…THE SENIOR CLASS THAT JUST LEFT WAS DAMN NEAR WORTHLESS…..
Sharpton was ALWAYS LATE AND WRONG…he ALWAYS fell for ANY play-fake…..and when he realized it he was caterpillar-like in getting to the play…I give him two years in the NFL.

Joe Joseph and Holmes ALMOST NEVER got off blocks or made penetration. They were serviceable AT BEST. I know Holmes is still here but he’s a Cokerite. The less I see of him the better. We really need Forston and maybe even Luther to step up and give some minutes OR MOVE BAILEY. Holmes is worthless. If Petri can get something out of him we’ll have to call him the “DT Whisperer”. For real! lol

Trump and Fox were decent AT BEST. Little push, often overpowered on run plays. Trump was decent in pass protection. (Pipho doesn’t need any more punishment.)

Randy Phillips was decent AT BEST. If he could sit back and play center field all day long he’d be fine. But when it came to sniffing out plays and making hits, he was average or below.

Shields was a warm body with a little speed….Javarris had his ONE moment against OU then disappeared. That play where he ran out of bounds when he had a chance to cut back and maybe break it said it all.

#2…..HURTT TAUGHT OUR DL NOTHING!!!! It seemed like the only way they made plays was on their own effort. That’s why it was almost always a Shannonite making a play. Love his enthusiasm BUT GOOD RIDDANCE.

#3….WHIPPLE’S PLAYCALLING WAS BETTER IN THE SPRING GAME THAN IT WAS ALL OF LAST SEASON….except maybe against FSU. I swear I hope I never see another WR reverse or dump to slow-Thearon. His comfort level and sharpness, coupled with improved OL-QB-WR-RB play will be HUGE. This really can’t be overemphasized. The ability to run the ball with confidence and consistency should eliminate all those silly trick plays.

#4a…..C-Mac absolutely MUST improve his read and react time. He was right behind Sharpton in falling for fakes and reacting slowly.

#4b…..Franklin and Figs will make or break this season. Period. If they can really dominate, we can win out. If they are spotty, we’ll lose 3 or 4. It’s that simple. To me they’re both Cokerites, so I’ll wait until I hear Fall Ball reports. Franklin says he’s ready but he was sketchy against Clemson and Wisky and UNC AT GUARD. The amount of improvement Petri brings to our DL will force and prepare our OL to improve. I CANNOT OVEREMPHASIZE HOW IMPORTANT THIS IS. lol

#5…..Jacory sitting out the Spring was very good for him. It was almost like a mini-RS for him to just sit, watch and learn. Most of his mistakes were just poor decisions, not really the injury. Having several months to watch, learn and study, as well as time to get stronger will pay huge dividends for him. Comparing him to Dorsey

#6……The fact that we won as many games as we did with a first year OC and DC, all those worthless seniors and green underclassmen is almost amazing. lol Seriously, when I look at that team and compare it to what we have coming back this year it’s almost a completely difference team.

Overall, last season was very reminiscent of 1999. The biggest difference is Butch didn’t have as many worthless upperclassmen. He had more continuity at all positions which started to bloom in 2000.

With Whipple though, we have a more talented OC and plenty of weapons for him to use, so in some ways that balances the equation.

This off-season and Fall Camp will be huge. The coaches will really earn their checks getting the most out of OL-DL-LB.

If we don’t win it all this year, it will be because of Fox, Figs and the lack of quality depth at DT and LB. It’s really that simple. I don’t think OSU can really take advantage of it but FSU might. UNC probably not. VT maybe, with Tyrod and those RBs but their OL is young, although when you have a system like theirs inexperience isn’t so great.

    Your thoughts…

    >>>>>>

Nash, Ferman is spot on but I don’t think OSU will be the real test. Everyone’s hyping Pryor but he’s not really that dangerous. He can be effective but compared to Ponder he’s much easier to prepare for.

I actually think FSU and VT, for the defense will be the real tests, followed by UNC for the offense.

Not because of the realistic presentation – because the “real” stuff is brilliantly intertwined with the “movie”. I just started to think “if they caught this stuff on CAMERA why wasn’t this ALL OVER THE WORLD???

  198. avatar Captain Optimist says:

    CO-
Your rip of the newly departed was strong, but I guess that I’d only argue that either 18 or 80 would start at TE this year and Foxy would start if he were still here. The rest were mostly JOGs.

Agree about J12. He and Whipple are a match made in Cane heaven.

Coop really turned me on LY. It’s so rare to see a KR go around and thru tackles. But, please. if he’s not 100% give him an IR. I’m so tired of seeing our RBs struggling at 70-80%.

You mentioned “Fox and Figs” this year. Did you mean OF?

I’m not too worried about DT depth IF they can stay healthy. “Fresh legs” are important if all you’re doing is barging straight ahead all the time. If the DL can stay in for awhile maybe they can learn to operate as a unit. Then, if they need a rest, they can throw some 3-and-outs. lol

  203. avatar miamimike01 says:

    I agree, OFNC.

Cooper blossomed last year, IMO, and was running much tougher, breaking tackles and running people over more than he did in his previous two years combined. I’ve recently seen replays of Clemson, FSU, FSU 2008, and came to this conclusion.

I have to think at 70% he won’t see near the touches he had last year. Shame, too, because he is a lot better. Coop ranked 4th in the ACC in total yards last year.

Way to put that new jack thru a security clearance check, just like shannon has put the fence back up around DADE County, so it is with this blog.

I’m starting to see now why we got seantrel henderson, amkes for better competition, because after this year, we’e going to need 2 people to step their game all the way up that maynot even get to be starters this year. So they’ll get broke in next year, but with the way this d-line has been shaping up, i’m not surprised that figs got moved out wide, esteban has been calling for that one for a lil while now. franklin is going ot have to man up out their, cav, you saw the same thing i saw, fox was getting manhandled by ricky sapp out their. Almost got jacory killed on one play, and all i’m saying is, all the stuff i was reading about franklin last year telling jacory, “don’t worry, i got you, nobody is touchjing you stuff, the way he took that 6″9 photo, watching sapp go to jacory, all i’m saying, i need to see him go head and get that holding call, we don’t need jacory getting blindsided like that. Good news though that they had to move figs out wide, means 2 things, 1, our defensive ends were killing jermaine johnson and ben jones, and next, stoutland is way behind petri and needs to step his coaching up, because he’s had franklin and figs going into year 4 now, he’s had tyler horn since he was a baby here, brandon washington and gunn have been under his tutelage, time to start seeing what his coaching is all about.

Canez1, ok, i know you got baby j (j=jump-out of bounds) low-lights permanently in your brain for now, here’s to damien berry, the anti james, this guy is out their with that defensively mentality like alonzo highsmith was looking for contact, mike james, runs the same way, lamar miller, he’s just trying to go around people, but on the tale end, he’ll run thru you, we won’t see these guys doing to much celebrating after being chased out of bounds. That’s just not how the position is supposed to be played.

cav, back to the o-line, i said it this 2 years ago when stoutland started talking that dumbness, calculating starts, that last year would be his most experienced line, after that, we’ll only get younger and younger up front, because just think, with stoutlands calculations about national championship teams and counting their o-line starts, after this year, just when does he expect us to win the national championship with his mentality, because come next year, we’ll have to brand new book ends, and horn will be going into his 2nd year possibly being the starter.

Truth, my thoughts exactly and I won’t say anythilng else.

Cav – don’t you think that wilth this offensive line we’re going to get some good rotations and give guys a little rest from time to time. It seems like, if everything goes to plan, we’ll have 6 or 7 guys rotating through. Or am I being too optimistic that we’re going to have 7 guys ready for prime time on the OL?

  222. avatar Calvin says:

triple c, when pipho is your starting right tackle for basically the whole year, and you got guys behind him who are suppose to be more talented but couldn’t beat him out, that’s a sign that either stoutland might have to go even before fluzzi(well at least don’t let em coach special teams). Because ben jones should’ve at least been rotated in, him and jermaine johnson in games last year, if nothing else, for a series or 2, especially against virginia and usf, and a few other games too, but it is what it is, let them either get embarrassed on national t.v. or see how they react when the lights go on. We need stoutland to pick his coaching up, he’s no art kehoe when it comes to coaching and getting guys ready.

Tht’s the one thing you can say about kehoe, the only time i’ve seen an o-line he’s coached keep getting manhandled was against ohigho state, and actually it was just one man and a combination of them knowing, dorsey wasn’t running nowhere, so they could just tee off and all we had and tried to do to counter it was keep calling these stupid draw plays and made it easy for them. When we should been spreading them out. They had nobody who could guard roscoe parrish or winslow, they couldn’t guard andre johnson either but dorsey was out their bullshatting with the ball. He, like testaverde didn’t show up when it was their time, but i’ll say this, dorsey was under an offensive coaching philosophy that was as conservative as it could be, when we had a chance to end the game in regulation, we played for the tie after roscoe broke that kick-off back, instead of going for the endzone, we running the ball 3 straight times and than had to rely on something like a 45 or 50 yard fieldgoal, that was some soft azz shat right their, that’s the part of the game that probably pisses me off the most besides the flag after the fact.

Bad memories on that one, Calvin.

Happy memories coming on 9/11 and after. Shannon ain’t saying jack, keeping it all like “it’s just another game’ don’t get too hype”, but you know he’s dying to get that one. After that, it’s about keeping the guys mature and composed, ’cause we got a tough schedule the rest of the way, with only two cupcakes left: Duke and Maryland. The rest of the games we better be bringing our “A” game and playing Hurricanes football, because even Virginia, which is an away game, has a new coach with good credentials, and that will be their biggest opportunity to prove something.

    Alright, I’m out

Then, if they need a rest, they can throw some 3-and-outs. lol

    >>>>>>>

Old Fart, we need Forston, or Luther, to take as much of the load off Holmes as possible. The less we see of Holmes the better.

Yeah, I meant Franklin. I hope to Heaven Fox wouldn’t start but he might. Thanks for reminding me of Graham and Epps, although I don’t count Graham. To me, he’s a Shannonite. lol

C-Mac, Franklin, Figs, Hill and maybe one or two others are the last hurrah and the last chance at redemption for the Cokerites. We’ll see if the transformation to Shannonite has been deep or shallow, full or hollow.

I thought the mix of “real” video and audio was awesome….it really made it believable.

And hearing that voice during Dr. Tyler’s hypnosis was insanely intense. But it was about there when I really started wondering why something so horrific hadn’t leaked to the rest of the world.

    I know…I’m slow.

I was ready to give credence to the interference being she was possessed by something clearly omnipotent and powerful. But something that crazy would have certainly made it’s way through the Internet…same with the police seeing the ship over the house.

That’s why I started looking it up.

But I appreciate the creep value added to the movie by tricking us at the very beginning.

And FYI the “real Dr. Tyler” is in the movie credits…she’s under “nome resident” and that’s not her first movie.

    Good stuff, though.

Stay clear of the owls LOL

  227. avatar miamimike01 says:

I thought they pulled the realism off well with “actual footage”. The interference stuff was great, the voice, creepy!

There’s a ton of internet information out there on the subject, but just be careful what you believe. Photos and videos can be doctored.

I hated the Police Chief, though. Some of the BS he pulled he can’t actually do legally. That’s the only gripe I have about the movie, legal research and portrayal was weak. (Unless there is an Alaskan law I don’t know about)

But the human emotions and intense situations are very well put together, and I could myself tensing up sometimes, which, IMO, is a sign of a good movie. It draws you in, just like Truth said. It’s worth checking out.

On a scale of 1-10, both Randy and I give it an 8. Realism, intensity, good story.

    >>>>>>

CCC, very good points. As Shannon said, we’ll have some good depth thanks to Figs and Franklin being out this Spring. I think it will make a difference. I’d like to see some of the young bucks actually take over but that doesn’t seem likely and hopefully Figs and Frank will be playing so well it won’t be necessary or possible.

  230. avatar Captain Optimist says:

Shannon brushed off questions regarding the importance of UM’s meeting with Ohio State in Columbus on Sept. 11. “It’s a game,” Shannon said. “You have a lot of big games at Miami.”

….Shannon said he’s excited about defensive tackle Marcus Forston, who has reached out to former ‘Canes like Cortez Kennedy for some mentoring. Forston played very well as a freshman in 2008, but last season was a total washout. He played parts of three games before undergoing surgery and redshirting. “I had a one-on-one talk with him,” Shannon said. “I think he’s matured a lot from when he first came in. He’s understanding a lot. He’s been talking to Cortez and some other guys that have been around. I told him, ‘You had some success as a true freshman then your second year thought the world was going to be yours and you forgot about the process of working hard and the process of doing the little things to get better. This off-season he’s been constantly working on the small things to get himself better. [Last year] he worked hard, he just expected big things without understanding what to do.”

    >>>>>>

Cal, you can see he’s instilling that proper UM attitude towards so-called “big” games.

Great to hear Forston reaching out to Cortez and working on the little things. Petri arrived at the perfect time.

triple c, when pipho is your starting right tackle for basically the whole year, and you got guys behind him who are suppose to be more talented but couldn’t beat him out, that’s a sign that either stoutland might have to go even before fluzzi(well at least don’t let em coach special teams).

    >>>>>

Cal, yeah, Stout’s making me wonder about him with that move, or non-move. Maybe he’s too hesitant with guys, too worried about them having their psyche hurt before they’re ready. THIS AIN’T SOCCER BYTCH!! lol

I don’t know. Hopefully the addition of Petri will make the difference with this OL cause I haven’t seen a DE more talented than our 2 or even 3 deep, so it must be technique and coaching that has prevented our guys’ development. And as they develop so will our OL.

Honestly, THAT could have been the reason for the chronic underachieving OL…..Hurtt. Cause I don’t care how good the coach is, if you’re not prepared in practice for what you’ll see on Sat., you won’t be ready period.

What do you guys see as out 2-Deep at O-Line this year?

    LT: Franklin, Jones
    LG: Washington, Bunche
    C: Horn, Linder
    RG: Gunn, Wheeler
    RT: Figs, Johnson

    >>>>>

That looks good but don’t count out SH somewhere down the line. He has great feet and he’s already big enough. I could see him passing Jones on the left side by mid-season.

  233. avatar Captain Optimist says:

cav, back to the o-line, i said it this 2 years ago when stoutland started talking that dumbness, calculating starts, that last year would be his most experienced line, after that, we’ll only get younger and younger up front, because just think, with stoutlands calculations about national championship teams and counting their o-line starts, after this year, just when does he expect us to win the national championship with his mentality, because come next year, we’ll have to brand new book ends, and horn will be going into his 2nd year possibly being the starter.

    >>>>>>

Yep. Time to throw that bullshyt out the window. We don’t have time to talk about why we can’t win it all next year. Time to figure out how to win it NOW.

Hopefully Petri is forcing him to step up or get shut up and embarrassed every day for 30 days.

Stout really won’t have any excuses though cause the kid’s Shannon’s brought in have boo-coups of talent. (I know y’all haven’t heard that in years…haha) So it’s all on him.

C1, there should be a better deal somewhere. Someone will have a sale right before football season.

I was watching some film of O’leary and I don’t get the hype. He looks small for a TE to be honest, shorter than 6’3”. He seems to have good enough hands but he doesn’t seem to have much speed or explosiveness. What am I missing.

As far as Benjamin, you never know what motivation can do for a kid. I still don’t know how he’ll grow. He doesn’t seem to be as athletic as say Calvin Johnson but he’s a little bigger, or as fast as Streeter. I guess you bring ‘em in and let them work then see how they improve.

  253. avatar Doc Ibis says:

I don’t know about the Kendall vs. Collier situation… I mean, we seem to have three exceptional slot guys in TB, Collier, and Thompkins…

TB is the game breaker that is going to get the Randy Moss-Wes Welker benefit, lol…. You know how defenses always put the safety over the top of Randy and a CB is covering Welker one on one with no help… I think thats why TB is often matched up one on one… I know that every DC in the ACC knows they can’t cover this guy one on one but they seem to have no choice and then the CB gets run right by…

Collier was super athletic last season making some catches that lesser guys wouldn’t have been able to… I really like this kid and I think he’ll be tough to keep off the field…

Thompkins showed out in the spring game… He made 3 or four athletic catches and by all accounts, he is the quickest guy on the team… Its hard to call if it’ll be Collier or Kendall getting the most reps come fall but they both will probably be in the game…

Hey Truth, whats up with O’Leary? I thought we at least had a shot… Are Fulse and/or Barnett options?

And Cap, I agree with you about the OL… Thats why I believe that if Figs is servicable at RT, we’ll know before the season starts… I mean, Shannon mentioned the work that he and Franklin will be getting specifically from Marcus Robinson and Ojomo… People thinks Figs may not be quick enough to contend with speed rushers but who in the ACC or maybe the NCAA has a better speed rush than Marcus Robinson? That kids shoulder lean is a thing of beauty… I saw in the spring game that he added another move to his speed rush… I forgot who the tackle was but he basically set him up with the outside move two plays in a row and then then next play, he went hard outside, stopped and cut back across the OTs face… I said this kid is a BADDDD man, lol… I think Bailey has the most vicious bull rush in ACC or maybe the NCAA… I mean, even the “BIG BAD” Big 10 OLmen were getting driven back into the backfield all night long… Ojomo and Vernon have complete games and I think Vernon had the best moves and techniques as a freshman (because I don’t think Hurtt was coaching that)…

Basically, we’ll know what we have in these next 29 days of camp because our DL is going to work this OL into shape!! Good call Cap!!

You’re probably set on a new tv. I have a samsung dlp as well about the same age. Like truth said, check the light bulb you can replace it yourself if that’s it. But from what you said, with that noise, it could be he color wheel. I’ve changed both on the tv myself. About 120 each (bulb & wheel) if you can find them. The bulb is easy to change. The light wheel, unless you’re really good at tinkering with electronics and have a steady hand, can be really hard. You basically have to take the guts out of the tv. There are some great videos on youtube on how to do it.

One final possibility is the light tunnel. Much more expensive and much much harder to replace, I’ve heard, but I’ve never changed that.

If you want, start by googling the model number (ex: HL-R6767W) along with the words “bulb” and/or “color wheel”, “light tunnel” etc.

The bottom line is this. By replacing my light bulb and color wheel, I’ve extended the life of the tv a year or so. I will probably have to buy a new one within the next year or so, but I’ve held that off for a while. By the way, by changing those two items myself, I paid for parts less than 250; had I had it done by a tech repair guy, I’d be looking at around 1500 – 2000 in parts, labor, repair. Assuming they diagnosed it correctly. IMO that 200 is a ripoff, but all the tech repair people charge more or less the same, though half the time they don’t know what they’re talking about.
